Vernwegener, methinks having had growers specifically aiming for high THC strains for decades is the reason high CBD strains are rare and the lineage is unstable... a good, solid strain needs a minimum of 7 generations breeding to get them stable genetically.
The rise in popularity of CBD is only a few years old, breeders need more time to find, exploit and stabilise these genes into strainlines.
As to getting CBD strains...one suggestion is using cannabis leaf for oil extraction or making cannabutter.
Leaves have a higher cbd content than the buds/flowers so making oil from them would have a higher CBD content.
One could also consider making oil from commercial hemp or ditchweed... these have been ignored by stoners and cannabis advocates BECAUSE of the low THC content...they might have a stronger CBD content than the well bred cannabis we have been cultivating for decades.
I am primary caregiver for a schizophrenic and have been almost 20 yrs now and giving him leaf to smoke or leaf based products has proven to be an INCREDIBLE benefit.
How good a benefit? Well, he used to have 300+ days a year of really bad psychotic episodes ...screaming, doorkicking, tablethumping crockery breaking episodes.... NOW, using cannabis LEAF, he goes through less than 60 days of mild to medium psychotic episodes, less than 20 bad days per YEAR.
CBD is a base for a whole new family of anti-psychotics th@ should soon come onto the market.
My suggestion is try making some leaf oil.
