Higha! Getting older I have less interest in THC effects and more in CBD/CBN benefits related to my personal disease (Fibromyalgia). Grew some strains with high CBD and ratio 1:1, at least the breeders claimed them to be so. I experienced those strains as very unstable, some do their job, most won´t. Money rules the world.
Now I think about to let some plants getting overripe, as THC degrades to more CBD/CBN.
Has anyone of you experiences with it?

Peace, Martin

Vernwegener, methinks having had growers specifically aiming for high THC strains for decades is the reason high CBD strains are rare and the lineage is unstable... a good, solid strain needs a minimum of 7 generations breeding to get them stable genetically.

The rise in popularity of CBD is only a few years old, breeders need more time to find, exploit and stabilise these genes into strainlines.

As to getting CBD strains...one suggestion is using cannabis leaf for oil extraction or making cannabutter.

Leaves have a higher cbd content than the buds/flowers so making oil from them would have a higher CBD content.

One could also consider making oil from commercial hemp or ditchweed... these have been ignored by stoners and cannabis advocates BECAUSE of the low THC content...they might have a stronger CBD content than the well bred cannabis we have been cultivating for decades.

I am primary caregiver for a schizophrenic and have been almost 20 yrs now and giving him leaf to smoke or leaf based products has proven to be an INCREDIBLE benefit.

How good a benefit? Well, he used to have 300+ days a year of really bad psychotic episodes ...screaming, doorkicking, tablethumping crockery breaking episodes.... NOW, using cannabis LEAF, he goes through less than 60 days of mild to medium psychotic episodes, less than 20 bad days per YEAR.

CBD is a base for a whole new family of anti-psychotics th@ should soon come onto the market.

My suggestion is try making some leaf oil.

Higha!

Didn´t think that way so long, you are just right about the ingredients of other parts of the plant! Will do a research on making oil. Besides, I want to know what overripening will do.

Thanks so much!

http://stillspirits....turbo-air-still

An airstill would work great for oil making if using alcohol for extraction, it allows one to save and reuse the alcohol instead of evapping had spent money into thin air.

Stems and leaf can yield good quality oil.

On a side note, if ya get 'too high' smoking some leaf can often help to moderate the high and make one calmer or @least feel 'less stoned', however I have found there is one 'gotcha' and th@is you do not mix leaf with bud....the effect when combined is different than when taken separately. One can smoke one after the other but not combined, when combined the thc is somehow strengthened rather than buffered.

Great Stuff, and, thanks god, outside temperature minus 10° Celsius donates enough reading time to me.

quote: "...When exposed to the air, the THC will begin to degrade and convert to CBN..."

As simple as that???? I don´t know what to say by now..., but I already put some dried buds right to my kitchen window!

time and temperature degrade cannabinoids....ya get some small loss during the bud drying process, moreso if its in direct light.. but not a great deal....higher temps, direct light or PROLONGED exposure to air would hasten the degradation, but for purposes of drying buds, it is very minimal IME.

Do you use topicals Martin?  I use my roots to make a balm, no thc.  It has helped many with Fibro, arthritis, etc.  I have nerve damage.  I'm basically numb on my right side.  It doesn't bother me until I lie down to sleep, and I have this burning, achy feeling.  I rub some on my feet, and it calms everything down so I can sleep.

It's easy to make.  I found the recipe here, using coconut oil as the carrier.  Not sure it cures anything, but I guarantee it will offer you some comfort!

Type 'rootbalm' into the search window on top right of the website page and you will get a list of posts or threads with 'rootbalm' mentioned in them.

Here's the search and below th@ is a list of some of the posts with 'rootbalm' in them.

Much to read there, from recipes, experiments to testimonials and opinions.

Aaaah, great! Made a search with "topicals", got some interesting results though.

More and more I figure out that GP undergoes some weakness since 2-3 years, there was so much more activity before,

plenty of threads just ended up abruptly.

Not that easy to understand biochemistry of terpenes and actual possibilities of biotechnology.
No way to get CBD out of THC by just leaving plant material to UV radiation, air and time, as there will be a lot of CBN left in the end.

I had to learn how "short path" distilleries work (as Air Still/Green Machine/Source Turbo), and they actually don´t separate CBD from THC within the process, even theese charts about boiling points of terpenes (as everyone refers to) seem no longer to be true, as graywolf told me few days ago.
More and more I have a closer look at industrial hemp, as this is legally availible in my country at affordable costs, and for that actual short path units would do the job to get sufficient quantities of CBD.

Peace,  Martin

Most of the CBD that is used in oils actually is from hemp, which we usually think of for rope and cloth...
