Hi,my 400 watt magnetic is about 4 years old and has stopped working.I ordered a new one plus a 400 watt HPS bulb (just in case the problem was with original bulb )
When I turn the new ballast on it startes to make a clicking sound, the bulb was sparking repeatly but not igniting.I tried the other bulb with the same result.

I have a small 2T5 clf rig that is better than nothing but I'm in 2nd week of flower and want to fix this problen asap.

Can anypne help?

Cheers.

Feck me what a week. The second ballast arrived, great, pluged it in..........same fecking result, the bulb sparking but not catching.Starting to panic so i stuck my kneck out and took the ballast, the reflector and the bulbs to a grow shop i had used before. The guy in the shop was brill even though I hadnt bought the ballast off him.

Anyway turned out the reflector was faulty not the ballast! Bought new reflector and I'm back on track.

Lessons learned.

1.Anything electrical buy local.

2.Never think you know the answer, get it checked.

Keep on growing.

ignitor is the problem i replace them often simple procedure just look up a wiring diagram for your specific ballast so you know which wire colors to conect its about the only thing that goes regularly.capacitors seldom are the problem ive never had to replace one yet!! oh by the way igniters are in the $30 range!!!!

New bulb holder going bad is pretty unusual. I would of tested it, but to check the wire, though I would of noticed it. A new one would of been cheap, but it needs to be rated for 5000 volts for HPS. 4000 volt bulb holders for MH are more common and possibly the problem from arc over.....

The guy, as likely as not, really doesn't know the nuts and bolts of the equipment.
