Hello, fellows and gals... here's this Spring's master plan: I ordered me a clone king 25 spot aeroponic cloner for 65clams, I've got a new solistec 600w ballast with ushio hps and the following old school sativa beans, all regs, to play with, mostly inbred landraces:
Cannabiogen's Jarilla (pure mexi sat)
From Ace- Panama Red, Malawi, Golden Tiger (meao Thai x Malawi), then their Nepal Jam (40% indica) and Tikal, which were the freebies on my last order.
I've had to put away the indoor tent for house visits by workers, but as soon as the cloner and last of the beans get here, I'm putting her up and popping a few beans of Panama, GT (golden tiger) and Malawi, the three that most interest me based on reports. I'll keep the mothers I find in small coco pots, clone the crap out of them and go Johnny Appleseed on the surrounding landscape.
These three 100% sativa are doable outdoors at 36S latitude. I should have some serious clones to go in the ground end of May, early June, and be out by November.
That's the news.... I will do some indoors, too. Lighting and nutes are very specific with these strains; strong light, low Nitrogen, 11/13 light cycle directly from rooting clones, so another challenge. Yeeha.

Okidoki, Beans got here today, direct from ACE this time, herbie's last time. Ten days since I ordered from Spain, so not bad at all! I already have their Panama Red and Malawi, added to that Golden Tiger, Nepal Jam and Tikal.

Cloner has been here for a few days, and I put it up and running with H2O2+water to purify it. The misters I would better describe as sprayers, but I'm sure they'll do the trick.

I'm taking home some solo cups from work in which to pop the Mothership Sativa candidates, I'm thinking in soil to keep them manageable (looking forward to some hand watering;). Next, put up the 3x3 tent (in my bedroom), my 6 x 44w flos around the edges, a couple fans and a 260w LED from above to get started. That'll be Veg/clone City for a couple o' months.

First pics will be with the setup on day 1. Soon, soon...

Germination method will be 24hrs (or until pop) bean soak in ph'd water, then into the soil or coco cups. I've always had good luck popping beans, close to 100% rate.

Nutes will be GH Lucas method, if in DWC, organics if in soil. Ok, next time pics. Gooday all, stay healthyish! DWD

Welcome, brim! I'll try and keep it interesting;)

good luck with the new run

Many thanks, PB, always good to have your eye on things!

I love Sativa's, but don't forget that some of them flower a long time.

Morning, KD, true what you say; if I remember correctly, the jarilla is the longest flowering of these, 16-20 weeks, but the Ace gear has really been worked hard for many generations; they're not at all easy 8 weekers, but they'll come in under 14;)

I've still got a couple 9-10 week strains that I like; purple wreck, especially, and a couple Humboldt fem freebies from Herbie's that sound sweet. I'll find a way to run a couple at the same time.
Tanks fer lookin in, Dwd

Did I mention it was -12 last night? If I were a mexi/colombian/thai bean, I don't think I'd wanna be born this week...

Alrighty, here we go, we've got littl'uns! I changed the lignup a bit, planting only two beans each of Nepal/Jamaican, Panama Red and their Tikal, which I found out is a 10ish week Guatamala 75%Sativa and has rave reviews. NepJam turns out to be 100% Sativa, but low growing thanks to the Nepalese selection.

I missed the new moon for germination, so I got 'em in their little grocubes, presoaked in phd water, on Valentines Day. Easy enough to remember, heh... They're in cubes on a heat mat, under a steamy dome and the 6 fluos, which are only 20 real watts a piece and create some nice ambient heat, welcome these winter days. Haven't turned the LED on yet, and won't for a week, don't want to freak out the girls. The first NepJam germinated less than 24hrs after going in the block, and the second is already popping out of its "soil" today! I've heard these are vigorous as hell, and they don't go much over 9 weeks unless you get a rare Jamaican pheno, which could go 14plus and are more rare in this generation than a few gens ago. The Panama Red should go 12 weeks, as early as ten or as late as 14. Depending on pheno. Tikal is (Guatemala x Kush/Haze) x Guatemala, a 10 week indoor strain. I've got a few months of wintery weather left here, so I selected the easiest/likeliest to grow indoors. Plenty of time to get the Golden Tiger and others going for June/July.

More soon. Outdoor temps have warmed up so much I've got ants in my pants to plant something SOON. Nights are below freezing, but days are in the fifties/sixties! My mind is on the old chicken coop; built-in fertilizer and scrog, just plant and water, like a chia pet... and it's stealthy with decent light.

I thought, and still think, that after cloning these babies I might throw a plant or three in a pal's 2K flower room. The only problem being that these Sativas will probably need to be dropped gradually from 12hrs light to 10 the length of the grow, so they don't eternally reflower and finish on time, whatever that is. Their strains are all fine with 12/12. I think the NepJam could swing it, maybe even the Tikal.. Hmmm. Enough musings. I'll go soil on the indoors grow so I can get to know the plants a bit, then I'll run some clones in dwc to get a monster.

All right, gotta go check out Plant Boy's cave, see what's a happenin'. Peace and green, dwd

Update-100% germed, when I got back last night, Panama2 + Nepjam2 were sprouted, this morning, Panama1, tikal1 were up and the last two were pulling their heads out of the blocks.

I did almost cook them all by putting them directly on the heat pad; blocks were about boiling. Very glad they survived that; expensive meal.

Pic update-all have been up since 2/17. They've got nice color, vigor and conditions are good for tropical seedlings; humid and warm, 80ish in the tent. Tomorrow the LED gets added to the mix and I put their blocks in solo cups with seedling mix. I've been adding 200ppm foxfarm growbig to their RO, probably unnecessary.

NepJams, first up. Nepalese x Jamaican '85.

Next update, they'll be in cups under LED. Weeded the chicken coop to get it ready to receive some outdoor plants. I've only got about 5'5" height before the cage but good exposition, so I'm going to lay them down on their sides and grow horizontally. It's an ideal spot to keep the deer and rabbits from getting at them. I tested it last year;)
Thanks fer lookin in! Dwd

From your mouth to God's ears, Plant Boy!

They've been up for a week this AM and are doing ok. Good uniformity for each strain, so far. I think I got two different phenos for the NepJam, maybe a longer flowering Jamaican pheno, though they're rare.
The Panamas look both to be red phenos; the green one is supposed to be a clearer high. The Tikals are the last to take off, smallest 2.

They've all got a little wilty from time to time after putting them in solos and after addition of LED. I dialed back the LED until today when I brought it up 6" and put it on full. We'll see after work today how they are.

I went out and scoped some outdoor spots, put up barrier wire to keep out the bunnies and deer, then realized it's still February, fer crissakes, and they're going in the ground late June to keep 'em stealthy. Hugely impatient... gday GP, keep it dank, dwd

Thanks for the Eye, KD... this would be true if I wasn't an idiot. Got back from work yesterday and had a true bonehead moment; first, panic set in when I saw the two Nepjams were wilty, and my favorite Panama had shrunk by half. It turned out I had forgotten I'd switched the panama and the smaller Tikal, seeing if light position was having effect on size. But there is a real problem for the smaller seedlings: using the grodans means I need to water every day or else they dry, as someone warned early on, and that is probably why some are less vigorous and droopy, as I was watering the soil directly, avoiding the blocks. There's also the ph diff between hydro medium and soil. Shoulda gone coco.

Anyhow, they're all still alive, the Nepjams and Panamas are putting out nice leaf sets and Panamas are in great shape, as if they didn't notice any trouble at all. Real babes;)

Question: what's the smallest tent size for a 600w lamp?
Thanks all, dwd

Thanks, KD... so 3x3 tent a tad too small, eh? I'm looking at both 5x3 and 4x4 tents, keeping the 3x3 for veg.

The babes are @13days from seed, are healthy but suffering from my mixed media approach, I think. I threw another bean of each into solo cups with seedling mix only, no cube, and put em in zip lock bags to germ next to their sisters.

I re-upped on NepJams, fems this time as the genetic is different, Panama, Bangi Haze or Caribe (can't remember which I settled on. The Caribe is a blue mountain Jamaican strain) and got 10 Golden Tiger freebies (Thai x Malawi).
There you have it. Looks like Spring has sprung around here, but it always does this, causing trees to bud early and then freeze in April/May. Not falling for it, but prepping outdoor spots;)

Edit: turns out I got both Caribe and Banghi, heh;)

Hey, Pete, happy you're around;)

They hit paydirt yesterday and have been quite perky since. They're 15 days from seed, more or less, and healthy enough that I'm happy. Of the three new beans, Nepjam 3 has been up for two days now;) no sign of tikal and PR #3s.

I think they're out of the danger zone; temps are good @75-82 daytime, 60's nighttime. Another week before putting in the 400w. The strains are all obviously distinct, structurewise, and so far pretty uniform within each strain. The Panama are almost identical, P1 being squatter with exactly the same colors and leaves as P2. Hopefully a male and a female... Nepjam is the fastest grower, leafset wise, and likes wet feet the least. The Tikal is very squat, almost no internodal length, and very robust. She and the Nepjams have thicker stems than the Panama.
Waiting on a few more beans in the mail, gonna have quite a collection;) good vibes to everybody, Dwd
