Found this thread  https://www.greenpas...minating +seeds  and was surprised to see they don't recommend doing the pre-germination that I usually do.

This time around it may be that some of my seeds were old, but others are only 2yrs old and thought they'd still be viable.... so how do you pop your seeds, what works best for you?

according to the thread they recommend putting seeds directly into your medium... do many do this method?

(if in water.... should they be in a dark place... how many days do most give them to crack?)

sometimes its just get back to the basics for me!

Let us know what you do to your beans!

pop, pop, pop ;)

ahhhh so as soon as they sink into the paper towels they go? geez  i had them in the water glass for days and days!  but some are too old to pop, but am still awaiting others!

gracias!

(I've always had a good germ ratio sorta kinda, so it must be the seeds are old..... gotta take the blame off me lol)

for the old ones,,,, make a cup of Lipton hot tea,,,, take a couple teaspoons into a small glass then add water, soak them in that solution...

the other method is scarification, slightly roughing up the shell with a fine grade of sandpaper, I tape it to the bottom of a stick matches box on the inside, then shake the seeds around for a bit,, then do the water bit

Peas! LOL

When you planted the ones with tails did you leave them on the heat mat till they popped thru the soil?

Peace,

Blue

ummmmm No? lol.... once they had tails i put them in my little 5x5 pots but i did put my little heater pointing into the tent and have the t5s nice and close.  no worries blue, most the seed i had were old ones.... next round will be a better outcome (new seeds!)  have always done it this way and not had probs so am chalking it up to "old beans" cuz the 2 that made it above were the newer ones.

am a little disappointed that all of the auto's didn't pop, was going to have them as extra meds but it is what it is lol

hugs!

"I'll get this right yet!"
