Hello again, I'm logging my first attempt at growing my own meds. For those of you who haven't read my other topic I will give you a run around of my setup and what I'm doing. I built a homemade grow cabinet with 230 watts of cfls and a 4' inline fan and filter. I'm growing afghan kush ryder in my biggest pot, auto assassin and diesel ryder in two smaller pots, and a micro pot with easy rider just for giggles. I'm going to lst them all, and hopefully I don't run out of room lol. I germed all 4 seeds in a wet paper towels, all popped within 24 hours so I transplanted them into jiffy pellets. Using Miracle grow organic wtih 25% perlite. Here's a couple pictures of my setup and I will be updating as much as I can between work and school, with lots of pictures :D

Welcome to GP friend, I can feel your excitement like I felt during my first Marijuana grow. I'm also growing in a apartment, inside the pantry/laundry room because it has a exhaust fan. One thing every grower overlooks, the water supply you use on your plants. Hard water or improperly pH will lock nutrients, talking from experience....had to use reverse osmosis filter.

Thank you Green. I am very excited just seeing that little seedling pop up. I was going to use purified water by the gallon from the store, would that be okay? The filter would probably save money in the long run so I might look into that. I have pH strips on the way.

Well lets call this day 1, all of my seeds have popped up, the easy ryder showed its head yesterday but for simplicity we will start it from day 1 here. I see roots showing on the bottom of my pellets so I'm going to transplant them today. These things grow faster than I thought :)

Thank you! So I have a small issue that may turn into a large one. I found a couple little black gnats flying around and killed them. I've read to put sand on top of my soil but I'm not even sure if these are just common gnats or something from the soil, kind of hard to identify.

I feel your pain, brotherman. I too have been besieged by the gnats. Get some sticky traps out right away. Fly ribbon, sticky traps, anything to start stopping the adults.

When you pot in soil... good layer of perlite on the bottom,  nice 1/2 an inch layer of sand on top of the pot.  This will help keep the little buggers from going into the soil and laying eggs.

If you're already infested, Azamax. Was just recommended to me today by my guys at my local shop.

Stop those little bastards cuz they eat your roots.

And don't up pot them when you see the first tap-root come out of the bottom of the cube. Wait for roots to come out of the SIDE of the jiffy pellete/rooting cube.

Look at me learning all this shit the hard way. lol.

Thanks for the advice PBG. I will get on that, hopefully I can get rid of them before it becomes a problem. I've only seen like 2 flying around.
Regarding the taproot, too late lol. I guess I misunderstood what other people were saying, I thought as soon as you see roots come out transplant it because it can die outside of the pellet. They seem to be doing well regardless, except my auto assassin, it looks like a dwarf compared to my other 3.

Yeah, get on that gnat thing quick.

They're dicks. They make everyone sad. They should go buh-bye from the plants eco system.

Seriously... a 3 dollar box of fly ribbon might be your god send.

My auto assassin took a spill lol I opened my box and the pot was tipped over. m not too heartbroken that just means more room for my others. It was very small and seemed like it was struggling behind the others anyways. Here's diesel Ryder, afghan kush Ryder, and easy ryder day 3.

Very cool, best of karma on your first grow!

( Try not to overthink, overwater, and be overly attentive,,, many first time growers kill  them with too much kindness... )

It's already growing fast :D Faster than the other two at least. It's pretty cool to come home and see how much they have grown in a relatively short period of time. I think it will only get more satisfying as they get older

It does and it doesn't. I've noticed i've stopped checking on them every 20 minutes. I've also noticed I've started having nightmares about them dying (thanks alot KD.lol) But yeah, you'll have a couple of weeks of just going "Damn bitch, every time I walk in here you get bigger." And then the flowers start and your heart starts to sing.

My afghan kush Ryder sure is taking off. My other two seem to not be doing well already :( lol. Not sure though. The tips on both look kinda yellow but akr looks healthy and green as can be.

Big difference between my akr and the other two, not sure if something is wrong with them or its just genetics, they are kinda yellow. but here's day 11. Akr, diesel Ryder, easy ryder. I think I may have traumatized the easy Ryder lol. When watering theres a bottom part of the pot and it got stuck collecting runoff so I pulled it off and it really disturbed the dirt. So maybe I shocked it or disturbed the roots or something but it doesn't loook too good. Won't make that mistake again
