Hey, there, Scoob, little question on coco feeding. Are they drying out, i.e. getting light in between feedings? Not sure how much moisture to keep in the coco. thanks kindly, gv

Hey GV-

In answer to your question: First thing I do is I water them slowly and very thoroughly until I get some runoff happening. I make sure to give them a really good solid drenching. They're pretty heavily weighted by the time I'm done with them. After that I leave 'em alone and let them go for as long as it takes the Coco to dry up almost completely. I don't let it get bone dry, but I let it get pretty frookin' close. It used to take 3 to 4 days to dry out but it's getting to be about every 2 days as the plants are getting bigger and are drinking more.

Two other things... I do the lift test and the finger poke test. I've gotten familiar with how light the kids get once they've used up most of the available water...and it's pretty light. I also have a pot full of dry Coco that I use as a reference. If, after lifting my plants, I still find myself unsure, then I poke my finger an inch deep at the edge of the pot. If I feel any resistance and the Coco feels somewhat firm and slightly moist then I know I've got about a day left to let it dry out. However, if I poke my finger in there and the Coco is all fluffy and I can stir it around then it's time to water it again.

Hope that helps out, my friend. Feel free to fire away with any other questions. In the meantime, I hope you're enjoying the Coco. Grow babies, grow!!!

looking good scoob,,,,,,having low humidity can force the plant to develop a better root system as it needs it to transport water to the rest of the plant in a dry enviroment,,,,,just my 2 cent worth as the penny is being taken away north of the border

Thanks much, Scoob; I am loving how much the girls seem to dig the Coco. I find them really fat for their young age compared to soil. I have not been letting them dry out enough, nuff said;) I love your pics by the way; your camera must be really high res, the coco looks like moist brownie on the close ups of Snow White. I hope that's how she sees it!

Greetings from Scooby Land! Without wasting any time let's get to the good stuff:

Amsterdam Flame #1- Bigger and faster growing than #2 but not as symmetrical

Attached File  1.jpg   377.48KB   8 downloads Attached File  2.jpg   224.1KB   9 downloads

Amsterdam Flame #2- Not as vigorous or big as #1 but almost perfectly symmetrical from overhead view.

Attached File  3.jpg   419.01KB   8 downloads Attached File  4.jpg   233.79KB   10 downloads

Two shots of Flame #2 with no flash. Kinda psychedelic looking.

Attached File  5.jpg   193.41KB   10 downloads Attached File  6.jpg   206.26KB   11 downloads

And here's the baby Snow White getting some new leaves on:

Attached File  7.jpg   349.13KB   12 downloads Kinda cute, huh?

Here's an overview of the kids in the cabinet from two perspectives:

Attached File  8.jpg   437.72KB   12 downloads Attached File  9.jpg   262.63KB   11 downloads

And how can a journal be complete without at least a couple of closeup shots for sh*ts and giggles?

Looks like the trichs are starting to form. The plants are giving off the tiniest of aromas right now...if you stick 'em up to your nose, that is.

Attached File  10.jpg   525.44KB   13 downloads

And here's some nice secondary growth and stipules making themselves known to the world. On my first grow I got totally excited thinking that the stipules were female preflowers. I know better now. :P

Attached File  11.jpg   287.3KB   12 downloads

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's about it, folks. Life with Coco is good. Everything is going very smoothly and I haven't made any massive blunders like I did during my first grow. Having one grow under my belt is helpful. It takes a lot of the guess work and anxiety out of the process. At least I have an idea now of how things should be going. And I have Toke pointing me in the right direction. Thanks again, Toke!

By the way, I know I keep saying it, but I'm sorry about my slow response (or lack of response) at times in this journal. It's absolutely nothing personal, believe me. My wife and I started a new business venture 5 months ago and we're finally starting to gain some traction. The hours are extremely demanding and it keeps me from being as active as I would like to be here. Plus, I really want to comment in everyone elses' journals, so I'm sometimes left to choose between the two. Sooooo...there you have it.

Hope everyone's doing well and riding the Mary Jane Train to Happy Land!

Cheers,

Scoob

Good deal, Scoob, they look right on. No apologies necessary, don't let us push you around;) We're just selfish. Good luck on the new endeavors, btw. My little gals are starting to smell a bit, too;) But they'll probably start flowering next week. Do you have a plan insofar as how much veg time you'd like to do, or is it up to the ladays?

Thanks, Bonghead. It's been great to have a trouble free grow up to this point. I sure hope it stays that way. I keep looking at your grow and wonder when I'm going to make my first attempt at a SCROG... probably after this grow. Anyhow, I appreciate your dropping in!

Nice healthy lookin kids you have there scoob! Will be keepin an eye here for sure! Wishin you the best on a great run!
Hugs!

Thanks, Kitty. Your cheerleading is always appreciated. You and Toke should name your house the Cannabis Education Institute! You've both been very helpful in this experience. Thank you!

Hey GV- I'm gonna top them at least once and wait until they're 12 inches tall to flip 'em. If I let them get any taller before 12/12 then I'm just inviting trouble. I learned that from the last run. Know what I mean? Thanks for stopping by!

more baby pics please

Thank you for the gentle reminders. I need them sometimes. :D I'm glad you're along for the ride and interested. Always nice to see you here.

Thank you, Poet! Things are starting to move and groove on this end. The kids are growing up and keeping me entertained. It's nice when you get to the point where you have more to look at than 2 sets of leaves...lol. Anyhow, you're looking super busy in your neck of the woods. I always enjoy popping in and seeing what you're up to. Hope it all keeps you busy, pain-free and happy!

Things are looking great Scoob! :oldhippy:

Good to see you here again, HD. Your visitations are always welcome! Hope all's well in your world.

Those little things look so nice and healthy. Great start, Scooby!

Thanks for the compliments, Desi. I appreciate your sticking around and taking part in the fun. I'll take your positivity and pass it on to the plants! ;)

Wow, those look great, Scoobs! Good boy!! Looks like many Scooby snacks are in store for you. (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))) You mentioned earlier in the thread that you had some slow starters. Tiny seedlings always seem slow to me, so it's probably normal. You might try Coco plugs. They help the tiny new roots get enough oxygen. Personally, I think this may be the single most important stage for using Coco. It is a delicate time when the superior substrate can really shine. Keep up the good work, man. I'm going to follow this one for sure. Best, WS

Hey All- I'm doing a tired and slightly stoned end of day entry here. Everything is going well overall. The plants are growing and things are moving forward. My challenge this grow has been temperatures and humidity. Every night the temperature in the cabinet drops to a low of about 69 degrees and stays that way for about 4 or 5 hours. That in itself isn't such a big issue, but the humidity has dropped to around 25 percent a few nights this week. That's after the humidifier starts running low. That's when the plants start protesting. Flame #1 is a vigorous plant and it doesn't seem to bother it too much. She drooped one morning but has been fine the rest of the time. She's also showing beginnings of a nitrogen deficiency which tells me she needs to be up-potted and bumped up on the nutes. There's a some yellowing at the bottom of the plant and it's slowly working it's way up. See? Attached File  IMG_3247.jpg   320.74KB   2 downloads Attached File  IMG_3250.jpg   373.5KB   2 downloads Flame #2 is a little smaller and a lot more sensitive to environmental changes. She's in a bit of a state of droop for a few days now. It is, however, better tonight than it's been in a couple of days. We got's to get her into some new shoes and bump her nutes up, too. My guess is she'll perk right up then. Just gotta keep enough moisture in the air to make her happy. Attached File  IMG_3249.jpg   348.96KB   2 downloads Attached File  IMG_3252.jpg   410.78KB   2 downloads Snow White doesn't give a sh*t what's going on around her. She's just showing huge leaves out of the gate and extremely tight spacing between nodes (all two of them). I could probably pour kerosene on her, throw her into the freezer for an hour and she'd still be just fine. Know what I mean? I hope she's a she. If not, then I'm going to terminate him. Attached File  IMG_3248.jpg   286.6KB   3 downloads Attached File  IMG_3251.jpg   498.19KB   8 downloads Tomorrow I'll be transplanting the 2 Flames into bigger shoes (3/4 gallon) and giving them a slightly stronger dose of nutes. Tonight I bumped the nutes in the res from 300 up to 380 PPM's and the pH is at 5.9. That oughta make them all happy and balanced with nitrogen and other goodies they need for growing. Here's an overview of the cab. The tray with the plants looks like it's about to tip over....I know...I fixed it. It's all good. :P Attached File  IMG_3244.jpg   276.78KB   9 downloads That's it GPeeps. Gotta go and veg for a few. Been staring at computer screens for far too long today. Hope everyone is well. Cheers, Scoob

Thanks PB and Greenview! Well, it was up-potting time and the deed has been done. The kids are moving along and enjoying their new shoes. I'm going to feed them tomorrow and top them on Sunday. The training shall begin!

Here's the roots of Flame #1. They look good and healthy to me:

Attached File  1 roots 1 bottom.jpg   270.67KB   3 downloads Attached File  2 roots 1 side.jpg   303.09KB   3 downloads

And presenting a root porn shot of Flame #2:

Attached File  3 roots 2 bottom.jpg   292.11KB   3 downloads Attached File  4 roots 2 side.jpg   300.11KB   3 downloads

Here are some shots of the kids immediately after the transplant compared to 3 days later.

Flame 1- Monday Attached File  5 - plant 1 pre trans.jpg   222.57KB   3 downloads Today Attached File  6 - plant 1 post trans.jpg   359.72KB   3 downloads

Flame 2- Monday Attached File  7 plant 2 pre trans.jpg   226.44KB   2 downloads Today Attached File  8 plant 2 post trans.jpg   398.51KB   4 downloads

Flame 2 has recovered a bit from her droop that started before transplant. Those middle leaves are not wilted and soft. The stems are reaching for the sky but the leaves are stuck in that angled position and not moving. She's a sensitive gal. If there's one plant I can expect to misbehave during grow then it's definitely Flame 2. I'm taking note of that now. We'll see how she does from here on out. Anyhow, her new growth is pretty healthy so I'm not stressing. She's a weed, after all....

The group of kids catching some rays together:

Monday Attached File  9 group after trans.jpg   236.91KB   7 downloads Today Attached File  10 group 2 days post trans.jpg   230.28KB   7 downloads

And let us not forget our friend Snow White. This plant is a beast. It's half as old as the Amsterdam Flames and it's leaves dwarf the biggest leaves on either of the other plants.

Attached File  11 snow white.jpg   491.34KB   8 downloads

Purty, ain't she? Ain't SHE? SHE. SHE. SHE. I'm trying to recite a mantra that will turn this plant into a girly type thing. She. She. She. That word just sounds like noise now. She. Wow. I'm stoned....

And lastly, here's a nice shot of Flame #1 without the flash:

Attached File  12 pretty shot.jpg   335.51KB   6 downloads

Time to go heat up a pizza. I've been working for hours and need some food. Hope everyone's happy and high!

Cheers,

Scoobato
