safe travels & the babes are in the best of care :)

hugs to you and yours....<----admittedly stoned ha ha

Thanks, Poet! I'm glad to be back and getting this thing moving. I hope things start to accelerate now.

I see you left time for another vape session!

Have a safe trip, Scoobs

Hey, Desi! I always try to incorporate vaping into getting ready for a trip. Makes it a little more fun and a little more confusing at the same time. : )

good luck on the trip and with your babies

Thanks PB! It was a great trip and everything that I planted is still alive. Yay! I'll post pics tomorrow and try to get in a quick journal entry.

Still on the road, Scoob? Bet you're more curious than we are about how your kidsies are doing;) Great timing for me, you and toke doing this thread; I'm on this like white on rice. I've got three up in their coco puffs, 2nd day of life above ground. Is it necessary to add CalMag immediately? I put just a few drops of formulex @1ml liter. I've also got them on a heating pad, and wow do I recommend that. They popped in a day, after soaking in water 'til cracking. I got a little nervous when Sir ISO said they'd go toward the heat, but they're right side up;) 35 bucks 35watts. Happy landings!

Hey GV. What's up! I got back very late on Monday night and spent yesterday catching up on sleep. Glad to say that things are moving along in the cab. I'm putting about 1 1/2mils of Botanicare Cal-Mag plus in a gallon of RO water right now. It comes out to about 150 ppms. That's gonna change on the next watering. Gotta consult with Toke tomorrow and see what the next step is. I believe he said we're gonna put in a small amount of nutes and up the PPMs to around 300. Will post tomorrow and let ya know. I'm digging the Coco, man. It's waaaaaay less maintenance intensive than hydro. And for right now that totally works for me.

Hope everyone's well. See you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Scoob

Things are moving along, albeit a little slowly. I talked to Toke and he said I should bump the temps up in the cab while I've got the seedlings going. Temps have been between 74 at the peak and 70 at the lows. I'm adjusting my circulating fan and exhaust fan to accomplish this. I'm shooting for somewhere between 76 and 78 for the time being. I also threw a tupperware container full of water into the cab to get some more humidity going. I'm only at about 40 percent humidity and that and the lack of heat seem to be slowing my seeds down. Here's the 2 Amsterdam Flames: Attached File  IMG_3178.jpg   115.75KB   5 downloads Attached File  IMG_3184.jpg   127.75KB   6 downloads They're doing just fine and I'm going to bump them up to between 200 and 300 ppm's with their first feeding of nutes tomorrow. Now that they've got their second set of true leaves it's time to get things moving. The one has slightly curly looking leaves because the fan was blowing on it a little too heavily. Here's the seeds that are popping slowly: Attached File  IMG_3185.jpg   109.09KB   6 downloads Attached File  IMG_3187.jpg   120.73KB   7 downloads--SHED YOUR HELMETS AND GROW, MOTHERHUNCHIES!!!!! I just put humidity domes over them to aid in the process. I'm also popping another Snow White to make up for one that seemed to croak while I was out of town. Will let you know how that goes once I see a tail. As of now, the seed is cracking open and a little white tail is just barely starting to peek out. Lastly...I took an ounce of hermed Snow White from my last grow and am making tincture with it. I used Everclear 151 Proof because it was at the liqour store and I didn't feel like getting the taste of Bacardi 151 infused into my tincture. Anyhow, check this out...I didn't know that there were quite a few seeds from the hermed bud. Look at the top of the jar and it looks like there's a bunch of little baby seeds floating around the mixture. Attached File  IMG_3170.jpg   81.99KB   9 downloads Attached File  IMG_3174.jpg   96.78KB   9 downloads Attached File  IMG_3177.jpg   103.26KB   7 downloads To make this, I filled the glass jar almost to the top with bud that I dried out and crumbled with my bare hands. It was fun. As I crushed the bud, my fingers got sticky and it got me pretty good and high. l didn't think about the THC absorbing into my skin and having an effect on me. After about 30 minutes it did, though. I was feeling pretty groovy. After the crumbling process, I poured the Everclear over the buds until it was about an inch above the level of the bud. Now it's been sitting in a dark cabinet for a week and a half. I shake it every day and will strain it on Monday of next week. Then I'll begin the evaporating process. I'll post pics of how I do it. Thanks to Kitty for walking me through her process! Well, that's it for now. I'll be back when there's more to report. Hope everyone's feeling good and feeling baked. Cheers! Scoob

Motherhunchies. Awesome. Looking good, Scoob. And if your tincture works out, that sounds like a pretty painless way to extract some concentrate. What do you end up with after evaporating the alcohol? Oil, I heard back there?

Today I finally got my reservoir cleaned up and put back into use. I got 5 gallons of RO water from the Glacier Water machine at my grocery store. It's a 5 stage Reverse Osmosis machine and it's making it super easy to keep my pH stable. And it's super cheap ($1.50 for 5 gallons). I dumped it into the res and started out with 160 PPM's of Cal-Mag Plus. Then I added a little less than 1/4 strength nutrients to bump total PPM's up to 290 (1 gallon feeding schedule for 5 gallons of water). Water was pH'd to 5.9. I fed that to my Amsterdam Flames. I'm still waiting on the other seeds to shed their helmets. I'm hoping they'll be on their way in the next couple of days. For now I'm just giving them water with 150 PPM's of Cal-Mag. Will wait until they spring to life and have 2 sets of leaves before giving them nutes. Not too much else to report at the moment. Sorry this ain't too exciting yet. I'm just keeping these notes to refer back to. Maybe it'll help someone else out. I'll try to get some pics worth showing tomorrow. In the meantime I hope everyone's well. And for those on the East Coast, I send you my best and sincerely hope that your power stays on. Be safe! -Scoob

First off, I want to say that I'm sorry I missed you earlier, Toke. Got a last minute gig this afternoon and had to put in several hours. I'll holler at ya tomorrow! Anyhow, I've gotta make this quick so I'm putting up pics with little captions. The bottom line is this...things are moving slowly but mostly healthily. I'm finding that getting seeds going in winter is challenging. Here's what I've got: Amsterdam Flame #1- Super healthy and vigorous Attached File  IMG_3200.jpg   614.44KB   2 downloads Attached File  IMG_3201.jpg   621.62KB   3 downloads Amsterdam Flame #2- Kind of sickly looking. Not nearly as green as #1. Almost looks kinda blue. Nitrogen deficiency maybe? In the 2nd pic check out the coloring on the leaf. Doesn't look great. There's some weird purpling going on: Attached File  IMG_3199.jpg   718.11KB   3 downloads Attached File  IMG_3202.jpg   223.4KB   4 downloads Here's a comparison shot of Flame 1 and 2 done in the same lighting: Attached File  IMG_3207.jpg   739.25KB   5 downloads This is a Snow White seed that I thought was dead in the water. It suddenly popped to life: Attached File  IMG_3204.jpg   698.41KB   5 downloads This Snow White seed has gotten this far and stalled. I popped the helmet off after I took this pic. I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see what happens by tomorrow. Hopefully it'll spring to life: Attached File  IMG_3203.jpg   970.54KB   10 downloads And lastly, here's a Snow White bud from my first grow. I'm gonna smoke it after I finish this post! Attached File  IMG_3196.jpg   697.86KB   11 downloads One last note...I'm considering getting one or two clones of something at my local dispensary just to hedge my bets and have at least a guaranteed female or two. It makes me nervous to do it because of that small possibility of bringing unwanted pests along with it. I just don't know if it's worth the risk. It's a reputable dispensary that everyone goes to, so the chances aren't great, but you never know. And I can't quarantine any clones because I don't have a separate tent...just the cab. Gotta weigh the pros and the cons. Food for thought anyway. Has anyone reading this ever gotten clones from a dispensary? I'm all ears if you have. Hope everyone's warm and well on the East Coast. And to everyone else...hope you're doing great, too! Cheers, Scoob

Hey GV. Thanks! They're digging the Coco and the gradual step up in nutes, for sure. It's amazing how quickly they respond to feedings. Kinda like hydro...only not. I'll be keeping my eye on your Coco thread, as well. Hope it's going well.

Thanks, PB. They're moving along and behaving so far. I like the less maintenance intensive part of using Coco. I still get to enjoy watching 'em grow at a good pace. It just takes a lot less work and isn't as stressful as hydro. And that bud is definitely yummy. It smokes real nicely in a vaporizer.

True, KD. If I do get a clone it'll be after I determine the number of girls in my current batch. Our dispensary has all of the bricks and mortar strains in addition to all of the silly pollen chucked strains. If I do go the clone route, then I'll get the solid and well known ones. Thanks for stopping in!

Very Nice Scooby,

Glad to be aboard, I will try to observe and not say much. Don't want yer thread chilled.

Eek

Thanks for checking it out, Eek. I'm always glad to have people say hello!
-------------------------------------------------------------

I'll get something posted up tonight or tomorrow with my journal. All is going smoothly so far. Hope it stays that way.

See everyone soon,

Scoob

Hey GPeeps! Here's the latest. The two Amsterdam Flames are moving along nicely. Attached File  IMG_3209.jpg   416.36KB   4 downloads Attached File  IMG_3212.jpg   497.38KB   4 downloads And the Snow White has taken flight. Attached File  IMG_3214.jpg   562.33KB   3 downloads At the moment, I'm battling super low humidity. I bought a small humidifier that I threw in the cabinet. I'll get a pic of it next time. It's a 1.5 Gallon Vaporizer by Vicks. Seems to be doing the trick. It went from 22 percent humidity up to 50 in about 15 minutes. Now it's sitting around 35 percent. I'm hoping it'll go up again. I'm not stressing, though. The kids look healthy and they're doing what they're supposed to do. I'll pop back in again in the next couple of days and throw the most crazy exciting journal entry you'll ever see. It may be such an extreme posting that it could cause heart attacks, famine and intergalactic war. Seriously. Hope everyone's well. Cheers, Scoob

Howdy Everyone! And Happy Friday!!!

Just wanted to thank everybody for dropping in and taking a looky at my little babies. Everything's going smoothly right now and I sure hope it stays this way. Here's some pics for ya:

This is the smaller of the 2 Amsterdam Flames. She's very symmetrical and pretty and she's my friend. :D

Attached File  IMG_3219.jpg   447.95KB   3 downloads Attached File  IMG_3220.jpg   222.44KB   3 downloads Attached File  IMG_3221.jpg   210.95KB   2 downloads

Here's flame # 2. She's not as symmetrical, but she's a fast and vigorous grower so far.

Attached File  IMG_3215.jpg   429.83KB   3 downloads Attached File  IMG_3217.jpg   222.59KB   3 downloads

And last, but not least, here is the single Snow White plant. I'd be really stoked if this turns out to be a girl. Yep. I sure would.

Attached File  IMG_3224.jpg   561.56KB   4 downloads

I just upped her from the 150 PPM mix to the 290 PPM mix as she's showing her 2nd set of leaves. I expect her to jump in size pretty quickly. If not then I'll have a talk with her and see what's going on in her life that makes her so lazy. :P

In order to battle the super dry conditions we've got here in Southern California right now, I bought a small humidifier which I stuck by the plants. It sends up a warm moist flow of air which the fan immediately blows right over the tops of the plants. It's adding an extra 20 percent of humidity to the cabinet which is very helpful right now. This is what it looks like:

Attached File  IMG_3225.jpg   191.3KB   5 downloads

And here's the overall setup from eye level:

Attached File  IMG_3226.jpg   197.07KB   6 downloads

Well, that's it for now folks. I've gotta say that I love Coco. As Toke said, there's a little bit of work upfront as you have to soak the Coco in correctly pH'd water before putting it in pots. Once you do that and it dries out then the good times pretty much roll. Every time I water the kids they get 290 PPM's of love and are thankful for it. I know they're thankful because after every watering they jump in growth for a couple of days. Then it's time to water again and the party just continues. It's very relaxing and I thank you, Toke, for guiding me through this. Good stuff indeed. By the way, Toke, I'll give you a holler tomorrow (Saturday).

Hope everyone's getting their weekend groove on and having a good time. And thanks to everyone for stopping in. I'll get back to each of you personally very soon. I promise!

Cheers,

Scoob
