Here we are in the right place I think LOL... Moved this over here from my journal hoping to give a helping hand to those that have problems cloning or just need an inexpensive way of doing it. I've had 100% success since I started doing it like this and it's soooo easy! No Muss No Fuss! Here ya go and hope it helps! Well folks took some clones today so figure I'll post up my way of cloning for you.... please bare with me.. this is the first time doing this so not sure how good it will be but I'm gonna give it a try LOL! For this you will need: 1. 16oz SOLO plastic party cups (not the $$ store ones.. they aren't as big around and the dome won't fit) 2. 14oz clear plastic cups 3. rooting gel or powder 4. grow nutes.. mixed and ph'd (using technaflora nutes and phing to 5.9 for coco... 6.5 for soil here) Yes I know... many of you think you are NOT supposed to feed until they are rooted. I got to thinking about this .... you are taking cuttings from plants that are used to being fed... completely different than with seedlings so no chance of burn. I gave it a try and well you can see from the beginning my journal just what a difference it made. They loved it and thrived with it! 5. small pair of sharp pointy scissors 6. and of course your prepared grow medium.(in this case coco mixed with Perlite at a 1-3 ratio) I've only used this method in coco and soil so I can't say what the results would be with anything else. Attached File  taking clones 001.JPG   125.22KB   20 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 002.JPG   130.24KB   22 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 003.JPG   118.36KB   18 downloads Next step... prepare the cups. I use the scissors to poke holes in the bottom, fill with medium and soak with FULL strength grow nutes till you get good runoff out the bottom then let drain a bit and put a hole in the center for your cutting. Attached File  taking clones 004.JPG   173.5KB   16 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 008.JPG   93.87KB   14 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 009.JPG   144.21KB   16 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 010.JPG   144.02KB   24 downloads Take your cuttings and place in a cup with grow nutes... this keeps them fresh while you get them ready.Attached File  taking clones 011.JPG   157.64KB   31 downloads Now take each one and make a diagonal cut... scrape the stem around the bottom very lightly and dip into the rooting powder or gel ... put in place in the cup, kind of push the coco/soil around the base of the stem and tap the cup down on the table to make sure there are no air bubbles around it, and trim the leaves so they will fit under the domes. Attached File  taking clones 012.JPG   174.27KB   37 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 020.JPG   143.68KB   32 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 021.JPG   99.6KB   27 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 014.JPG   148KB   24 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 013.JPG   170.45KB   26 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 016.JPG   166.41KB   32 downloads Place the clear cups on top.... they should fit nice and snug... place them in a small tub or tray and put them in a nice warm place with a couple cfl's. Attached File  taking clones 017.JPG   147.46KB   34 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 018.JPG   151.97KB   35 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 022.JPG   148.06KB   34 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 023.JPG   140.76KB   36 downloadsAttached File  taking clones 024.JPG   142.86KB   38 downloads These are in just regular dishpans set on a small inverted wire tray with an electric candle warmer underneath. Usually that isn't even needed but our weather has turned pretty cold here now so the lights just won't do it. You should see condensation on the inside of the clear cups within just a few minutes. This is what you want to see until you remove the domes. I leave them in place for a week and a half to 2 weeks and then remove. No need to raise them to mist or water at all.... the moisture stays in until a few days after removing the domes. Once the domes are removed and they dry out feed them again with your grow nutes and you should see them take right off and be ready to up pot in another week or so with a very nice and full root structure. So far I've had 100% success doing this way and as you can see it's VERY easy.. no muss.. no fuss.. get um done and leave them alone. Here's a couple shots for you with the condensation in the domes. All seem to be doing well after warming things up a bit for them. Will keep adding to this till they root and take off well. Attached File  condensation in domes 001.JPG   142.59KB   34 downloadsAttached File  condensation in domes 002.JPG   137.09KB   26 downloadsAttached File  condensation in domes 003.JPG   168.25KB   27 downloads Well folks... removed the domes Fri. afternoon... 12 days from taking cuttings. Here's a few pics of them 24hrs later. All 15 are doing good.... the yellow leaves are the big fans that had to be cut to fit in the domes but all are showing new nice green healthy growth. Woohoo... should be up potting in about a week. Haven't had to feed .. water or mist them at all. Now will wait till the cups dry out and feed them with reg. full strength grow nutes and probably up pot next weekend... time will tell on that one.. but that's usually the time frame.... Stay tuned for some probably root porn LOL.. but in the meantime here's a few pics of the new girls. All rooted and have taken off real well... have 2 that are a bit small but those were the tiny tiny cuttings and even they are coming along nicely. Need to up pot all of them but having space issues here again LOL... gonna have to baby them along for a bit until can get things worked out, but did get you a shot of the roots just so you can see how well they did. Here ya go folks ... 15 clones.. all rooted and on the go easy peasy! Thanks for putting this up Kitty!!! You laid it out step by step.... go you!

just one quick question.... when you soak the coco with the nutes, do you use 1/4 strength on the nutes and then after the domes are off and dry out then I'd start increasing the feed correct?

next week is cloning week for me, so will pick up the 16oz and 14oz Solo cups and will be good to go!

you make it look so easy :) rub some of that green thumb off on me please? lol
Hugs!

LOL.. sending you all the green thumby stuff I can!.... You'll get it down pat real soon girl.. ya just gotta kind of find your little nitch and it will soon be sooooo easy for you! No I use full strength GROW nutes to soak the coco.... again reasoning why I did this in the first place....... these cuttings came off of plants already used to nutes.. full strength ones. Not like babies. I've had no issue with burn or anything using the technaflora... but I really can't say about anything else. wishin you the best with your next cloning adventure... hope this helps Hugs!

Well all but 5 of the clones have been up potted for a bit now.... the others are more than ready but lordy running outta room LOL. trying to keep them in the cups as long as possible. All are still doing great and will soon be ready for new shoes again but going to have to figure things out a bit here first! One of them is still very small.. she was the tiniest cutting... hasn't grown in height so betting she's gonna be a bushy girl.. woohooo!!! Here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure. Hugs! Wrong water.. not ph'd. .. needless to say all water and nute jugs now labeled LOL!! Guess that's bound to happen with 2 peeps in the house doing the gardening LOL!

thank you again for walking me thru your method! I spent 5 hours attacking the mom's, and cloned like a fiend, took like 13 cuttings .... and something has to make it! only part that I'm a bit worried about is you had said your cups (the clear ones) cloud up within a few minutes and mine aren't (the clear cups on top are snug in the cup so its not from moisture escaping) and I did wet the coco well with tap+ nutes. They've been in the cups for at least 45mins... so maybe manana you can let me know if i should "panic" or not.
:::am holding myself back from going in there and feking with them:::: and I do have a space heater in there so it is warm enough.. also could put the seedmat thingy on maybe?
will check them again laters... and have lots of pics to upload in my thread.

Hugs!!

LOLOL.. no don't panic Poet.. no need for that. Sometimes it takes a while for the condensation to show depending on temps... the heat mat might be a good idea if you don't have it by this morning. I had to elevate mine a bit this time and put a candle warmer under them cause it was just too dang chilly here right now unless I'm cookin in there.. and well I don't cook 24/7 LOLOL!
and FFS keep holding yourself back!!!!! That's why I called it easy Peasy LOLOL... once you see the condensation leave them alone!!!!!!! just make sure on the heat mat it's not too hot. (Sorry I'm not familiar with them and the temps) In about 10 days you should be able to remove the domes. I usually wait 2 weeks but that kind of goes with my work schedule too. This last time it was 12 days and all was good. Then you still don't touch them except to maybe rearrange the lights until they dry out.... again depending on temps and how well they rooted .. about a week and it's time to feed and up pot. The roots I showed you above were exactly 3 weeks from taking the cuttings. Haven't lost a one since I started doing it like this!
They'll be fine girl... hope you are prepared to have 13 clones on the go LOLOL! Hugs!

Kitty, thank you for more of the lady's grow club! I'm going to try this!

LOL.. lady's grow club huh!! Too funny! I started this way out of necessity... I didn't have a cloner and no $$ to get one so used what I could find that would do bout the same and waalaaa! Hope it works well for you and if ya need a hand just give a yell.
Hugs!

Certainly does! I have never successfully cloned anything that wouldn't root in plain water, sitting around in a glass. This gives me a way to test it out that is affordable and simple. :)

clone peek = 2 more for the dead as a doornail pile lmao.... eh ya gotta laugh... time to look in my bag of tricks for starting my "back up" for future sideways clones!!!!

fek fek fek... also will need to relocate them.... bathroom not a good spot, only a space heater and not enough outlets for lights/fan anything! little fekers just don't wanna do what they gotta do = cloning impaired rofl

one cut in front of the other and repeat often (without a feking watering can)

oh ggeezz Poet LOLOL!!! Don't know what I'm going to do with you girl! Ok.. now seriously.. all you need to do is add a bit of perlite to your coco.... put enough water through the cups till it just STARTS coming out the bottom... then let them sit and drain for a bit in the sink... you want the water to be able to drain away.. not sit in it too. I let mine drain for about 15 min or so while I get everything else ready. You don't need much light while the domes are on... I only had a couple over each tub till they root... I think it was like 2 in a Y splitter over each 5 clones. You just have to make sure they are warm on the bottom if the room is chilly. As the coco warms the condensation in the domes will form. Uggg I'm gonna do something here and hope to fek I don't regret it LOLOL...Gonna remove the domes and take a couple pics for you. I usually don't touch the domes for at least 10days. These were taken on the 9th. Topped the Dirty harry .. just one cut... then made that one into 4.... couple of them very very tiny and not even sure IF they will root but what the heck.. ya never know unless you try. ..... ok.. here they are after only 6 days. Attached File  6 day clone update 003.JPG   156.55KB   6 downloadsAttached File  6 day clone update 002.JPG   127.27KB   8 downloadsAttached File  6 day clone update 001.JPG   166.47KB   8 downloads pics taken and domes back on.... should be fine... wouldn't really worry much but it's pretty dang chilly here again LOL! oh geez don't remove the cups for me... don't want to add to anything going wrong!!! yes the lack of warmth in the room is also an issue, but I do have the seedling heat mat going. I will pick up/order some perlite and see how that goes, but honestly Kitty its my heavy handed watering, and after looking at yours more, I think I have to put the cuts deeper in the coco and not have as much length to the cuts. I will keep doing till I get it right. The one that survived back from god knows when.... survives, so i need to go back in my journal and see how I did it that time... and repeat!!!

hugs and put the darn cup tops back on!! eeeeek!

LOLOL... don't worry Poet... the clones are fine... checked this morning and none the worse for ware. If you lighten up the coco with some perlite... I don't think you'll have any more probs with the drowning issue. As far as putting them deeper... most times I think mine are just an inch or so. If you can snip them to where you can put a couple nodes under the coco or a part where you have stripped off a couple leaves they seem to root a bit better too. That's why I'm a little concerned with the tiny ones I got in there now. Sure wasn't much to them LOL! Time will tell and so far no wilt at all so hopefully they root and Miss Harriet is a Miss LOLOLOL... toke says he saw a little white hair.. but for the life of me I'm not seeing it yet! Keeping fingers and toes crossed here since this is one of MCOnes I think. Don't get discouraged sweetie... we'll get you cloning like a champ one way or the other!! Hehehe don't make me have to come up there now LOLOL! Have a great day! Hugs!

I'll try DD... but it will be a while... no need for any just yet and have to get the alcohol and all. Not going to be easy ... kind of hard to explain on the evaping part...and sometimes I still kind of mess up LOL! Timing is a bit tricky as I've found out!

Will do my best when I get things all together for it!

Thanks for stoppin in Daydream.. hope it works for you. Here's a little update from the Dirty Harry clones taken..... Just one cutting.. the very top .... made into 4 clones. Really didn't think the tiny one would even root but gave it a shot and she's starting to take off now too. Just took her a little longer. Didn't change anything... took all the domes off at 10days and then let them go. Here's a couple pics... and one of mom.
