nope, i don't scuff or score them - they just go in the dirt and that's it. as for autos having a short grow time, it all depends ... they vary by strain, lighting, setup, etc. a couple of my earlier grows took close to 3 months (Pakistan R. was fairly slow). i think that lighting is as much of a concern as with photoperiod plants, though... buddha's Deimos branches a lot and has - by far - the most bud sites of what i've tried, but i'm pretty new at this myself. no grow journals, here or elsewhere...

Hey Sandbreak, I can't wait to see what soil you are using.

It's called Gardener's Gold - see http://www.coastofma...enersgold.shtml

Could maybe use some more perlite in the mix, though, as you've said in regard to FFOF.

Oh wow, I have used there penebscot blend compost before. I haven't tried the soil. If I had my way I would always use 50% FFOF, 20% of the compost and 30% perlite. It is a great soil mixed like that. Peace, Blue

Hi, I am trying real hard not to steal the use of Poet's panic button...I am being like a mother hen with these little babies. They are growing like wild fire! Way way too tall, the tallest is/was 4". Eek will have to show the pictures. I keep turning the pots and they bend toward the light. Making for strong stems? I am worried that they will keep growing taller and taller and fall over.So...I added soil and made them shorter. Any advice is welcome. All they have had is a few drops of water here and there. They are a nice deep green and they look happy to me. I worry I will stress them. guitar.gif

welcome to your new obsession!! 9 new sprouts! whoopie :) I fawn over my girls all the time, always floating thru my mind during the day.... its like being a parent and we do love our little sprouts in pots for sure!
it goes so fast fiona, one day is a babe and next thing you know its a foot tall :) is height an issue for you at all? any auto's I've grown out have not been very tall, but there are alot of variables with each of us and what "supplies" we use. I know you're putting things together bit by bit, and it will all pay off in the end., start the "green" jar for coins for future tweaking, it takes a bit of the sting when its time to upgrade.

and tell eek thank you for explaining the 2 seedlings in a pot for me :)
p.s. I can surely share my "panic" button if it will help you blow off steam :)

grow on!!

Thank you for sharing the panic button with me!!!

Space is not an issue, I was worried they may be too tall too soon...

Oh and I forgot to mention that all 10 have sprouted!

The "green" jar sounds like a good idea.

I am obessed with them, but what better to be obsessed with? This is really fun!

Day 8 for the kids... They are growing and getting very tall, only one is starting a second set of leaves (too small to see in the pictures. I know the problem is the light...don't ask me what kind, I don't know. Eek ordered a real grow light...again don't ask me, I don't know. My set up is not the best, we are going to be moving them to another room in a couple of days so it will be better? :) These first pictures are of the kids stretching to get light Attached File  100_1679 (800x453).jpg   200.38KB   13 downloadsAttached File  100_1681 (800x453).jpg   219.95KB   18 downloadsAttached File  100_1682 (800x453).jpg   162.4KB   16 downloadsAttached File  100_1683 (800x453).jpg   203.02KB   13 downloadsAttached File  100_1684 (800x453).jpg   206.24KB   13 downloadsAttached File  100_1686 (800x453).jpg   187.4KB   14 downloadsAttached File  100_1701 (453x800).jpg   217.87KB   13 downloads I added more soil when and where I could. I was afraid they would fall over. Then reading about a tier method for autos, since you don't want to transplant...I kind of used that idea and added solo cups. Thanks for looking Blue :)

Our light came today, I am going to wait and let Eek open it. Do all the set up etc. etc.

I also have a fish tank set up with an air pump to give them oxygen rich water. I've read that it helps the roots.
With autos, I think they are more sensitive with nutes, so I won't feed them for another week?
I'm wanting to use molasses, I need to do more research.

I might've missed it! but it'll help them strenthen up and you can use the wooden thin barbque skewers and thread if they get leggy and do a lean this way thing (which they always seem to do regardless lol)

yippee on the new light!!

Good Morning GPeeps,

Woooohooooo!

I get a whole room to grow my girls in. This can only get better. Today, we have to work on setting up the light temporarily. After Thankgiving day, we can set up the room permanently. So I have visions of giant plants overgrowing a whole room in a serious PoetWannaBe kind of way. woohooo

Will post pics of the girls later, with an update. Talk to you later folks.

Good Morning GPeeps,

Well things are moving along. We got the pup moved into the front of the house bedroom. That means that the bedroom I am gonna use to grow in is now being used to grow. I put up our new HPS 150 sunburst (ballast inside, cost $75, shipping included).

I have an idea to start adding panels of LED's around the plants, making a little room of 45w full spectrum panels. I have a mylars windshield screen underneath. I stole this from my car. There was a little sticker on it that said "Do Not Drive with Windscreen Placed in Windshield." I would like to see what happened to that guy. Maybe not. So I figured something so dangerous to driving should not even be in the car at all, so now it is a floor mat for plants. I am hoping it will reflect light back up into the plants. Fiona says we can't call em girls, cuz they haven't sexed yet.

Okay here are a few pics I took this morning. I also took some pictures last night with my new Samsung smartphone. But I have used Motorola since the beginning of cellphones, and am having a little trouble getting everything figured out on this thing, so getting those pictures posted will be an adventure, but I will try.

Attached File  100_1702 (800x453).jpg   137.01KB   11 downloadsAttached File  100_1703 (800x453).jpg   172.18KB   15 downloadsAttached File  100_1704 (800x453).jpg   228.78KB   14 downloadsAttached File  100_1705 (800x453).jpg   180.71KB   13 downloadsAttached File  100_1706 (800x453).jpg   231.2KB   13 downloadsAttached File  100_1707 (800x453).jpg   201.92KB   14 downloadsAttached File  100_1708 (800x453).jpg   176.03KB   12 downloads

So as you can see, the light is in temporarily, and it is looking pretty good.

We have an idea about how to lay out the area in the room, but it will have to wait. With The holiday coming up, my daughter is bringin' the grandkids over for a few days. After she leaves we will put the room the way we want it.

If you would like to express your opinion on what YOU would do, please do so before we get it set up. Even photoperiod strains if you are so inclined, cool?

We only have the areas for the autos, which consists of an area about 2x2. The hps 150 should be fine for now. We have it about 7 (suggested) inches above the plants, and will adjust as necessary.

I am thinking about the rest of the room??????

I am also thinking about my future here.

I am ready to jump into this full time. But financially, I have to be able to survive at our present level. So as we continue our development of balms, salves, and root and balm oils. I will see if I can make it with other products as well. I would rather do this part time, but I think I am being pulled in a direction that I have no reason to deny. I am torn really.

Plus, I really really really really really... would love to stop working where I am working at right now. After all, who works at a place for five years?

bfn,

Eek

Side Note* This is Eek, I only noticed that I put this update on Fiona's profile AFTER I had posted it So give her props for again putting up with me. Good Day, to all you wonderful GPeeps, I hope you have all been hassle free and happily medicated. Goin for a pain free weekend! So due to the holiday and visiting relatives, we had to temporarily move the kids into our bathroom shower for about two days. The seem fine, as the auto flowers aren't so particular about lighting schedules. We are going to put them on timing schedule, as soon as I get the timer, lol. So far we are not consistant in when we give them their dark periods. Does anyone have any idea if this would be harmful at this point? I think we will be safe. But any input would be welcomed. We have been spraying them to give them water, until this morning when we gave them a good dousing of water. 1 cup each seedling, 2 per pot. 10 total four dr/gal. - super thrive (we are only gonna do this until the roots and stalks start to increase in size until they look like stalks and not shoots), probably two more waterings for one more week. We will spray them with regular rso water daily or so. 2 dr/gal. - Schultz's African Violet feet, 8-14-9, I know this is not ideal, but it is what we got. and only 2 dr/gal. it should give em a little something. regular dosage is 21 dr/gal The RSO water has been in a tank with an air pump creating autoflower powerwater. We found some info on auto flowering where this guy was getting 2-3 oz per plant with very little nutrients but tons of oxygenated water. We still need to order a SUPER bubbler, but that will come. How about some pics? Thanks blue, I will do that. Maybe this afternoon.

The room is staying at a constant, 78 degrees. I have a fan oscillating, and ventilation is not an issue at this point, but will be soon I guess. hopefully. What I intend on doing is putting a duct hole in the window, made if plywood to insert into the window for exhausting air. If I do it right, it should fit right into the window gap created upon opening. From what I read, when I do that, that regular "new" air will get sucked into the room? maybe? nailbiting.gif

Question, Do I need to introduce regular fresh air into the room, or is there enough getting through the opening of doors, and under the door (about 1/2 inch gap) as it is, or should I get that duct and inline fan now?

Well, that is all I have for now. I will post again soon, or Fiona or Eekiona guitar.gif

Pics Pics Pics!

Hello Ladies and Gentle Peeps,

Okay, so I go into the room this morning, and I smell the tiniest hint of pot smell. Hmm, these Auto's grow pretty fast. I also think I have so far at least one male in pot 1. I am somewhat sure of at least three females and one more male. but the next few days to a week or so shall determine the rest. I wasn't really expecting to find sexing yet, but there they were. After I took the pics of course. So tomorrow I will try to get some close ups so you all can see what I see.

I also rearranged the room a bit. I noticed some curls on a plant in pot 4. I was already thinking that maybe the light was getting too close. So I inverted the desk, and relined the resulting cubby with the mylars, and put the plants in. Then I sprayed them with water, let em dry out. Then we went to town so I could get the wrong downstem for my new Rasta Bong, which I will have to return tomorrow. And FIONA GOT A NEW LAPTOP, woooohoooo. After returning I turned the fan back on, heater on, window closed, and lowered then turned the light back on at about 7 pm. so they went most of the day without the light, but now they have room to stretch as much as they can, before and after the flowering starts, which should be soon (ok just checked and they have not started flowering, lol).

Okay here are some pics for your entertaiinment. Tomorrow AM I will post the rest of the individual pictures.

Enjoy...

Good Morning Gpeeps, I guess I will do this. First before I post pics, I did end up pulling the first male yesterday, at about 8 inches tall, it was clearly male. It came out of pot one, the other plant looks to be female at present time, though I cannot be sure yet. There are about 7 of them that are showing clear signs of the beginning of sex, though they have not shown which sex yet either. The pictures of Pot 1 are before the pulling, it was the big one that I pulled. Okay, here goes...
