i ll start, as i m sure some will find nice, by some porn :
THE BIG BOOK OF BUDS
DSCF8191.JPG 166.82KB 3 downloads DSCF8192.JPG 152.25KB 1 downloads DSCF8193.JPG 152.67KB 1 downloads DSCF8194.JPG 186.46KB 1 downloads
the following is valid for all 4 books in the series
this will be a mixed review to say the least....
this all starts very good with a dense collection of strains from around the world of breeders. Each having a picture and a lil column like description, sometimes containing an anecdote about the breeder or strain it s about...
there s also for each strain a little collection of icons meaning in/outdoor Sea of green Sativa /indica parentage type of buzz all very nice...
The pictures are not on the downside either ... for the most part they are very nice shots of mature and hopefully dank bud.
Also included are very interesting articles cannabis related (several pages each, illustrated by pics or drawing graphs and whatnot)
Be it about the pot palate (by DJ Short... u can find the same article in HIS book!), the hemp activism or the ripening time related to daylength and latitude, those are definitely worth a read!
But, because i m afraid there is a BIG but...
i m afraid the strain description ain t very fair.... I mean if you look closely, they are exactly the breeder's word (and picture for that matter!) on each and every strain!!!
Be it a Sensi seeds or a TGA strain, the words and pics in the book are exactly what you can find in the website/doc/folder of each and every breeder!!!!
So be aware: those are nice coffetable books, but , in no way unbiased as it basically is a compilation of the breeder s ads!!!!
so if you look for objectivity, don t buy those
but if you have a bit of $ to spend on some porn go for it!!!
there you are for round 1 (which resumes 4 books nonetheless... )
i ll be back later with more

i m very pleased you seem to like it
now for another round ... but of compliments this time
i want to talk to you about :
The Marijuana botany by Robert C. Clarke
DSCF8206.JPG 156.37KB 3 downloads
This one is in another category compared to the previous review (big books of buds), since here it's all about information.
Pure unadulterated INFORMATION!!!!
but it comes at the price of being aimed at the more experienced grower...
I mean there s no "how to grow" section" in this one, no thank you sir!!!
the name says it all.... if you want to know the inside of the cannabis plant, here s your book
for example: here the process of UV use for THC production is even explained with chemical formulas!
To keep it short if there is a but ( it is a very minor one!!!) it is that this book has been written more than 20 years ago...
this means no fancy typo or colorful pic section but rather scientific like drawings and graphs...
All this to say that this book is a killer if you are experienced and want to know even more about a plant you thought you knew!!!!

THE GROW BOOKS namely the good ones ( i know of that is...)
no surprises here i ll only be positive, the 3 books i'm talking about are all very good on their own
Greg Green The Grow Bible (2nd edition)
DSCF8214.JPG 158.59KB 4 downloads
Jorge Cervantes Marijuana Hoticulture the indoor/outdoor medical grower's bible
DSCF8212.JPG 163.17KB 7 downloads
and last but not least:
Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana growers handbook
DSCF8213.JPG 163.02KB 2 downloads
So they are all 3 pretty much in the same ballpark: heavy , very heavy(almost more than 3lbs 1,1kg!! for green and rosenthal's 2lbs for jorge's)!!!
but they are all 3 a wealth of information here too (all 3 being 500+ pages);
plenty of nice pictures in all 3
and all the info you need to get growing soon
Info on organic; hydro; DWC; etc indoor; outdoor; CO2 enrichment; propagation; almost everything is covered!
i admit having a little pref for the heaviers of the 3
imo Jorge's start to be a bit outdated compared to the pretty luxury items that are those books
I mean they are very worth their +-30$
if u need a grow book personnally i d go for green s or rosenthal but hey jorge s ain t no weakling!
So here we are 3 books 3 hits
take a pick if you want to know the basics and beyond of growing cannabis

i really hope this is a trend started by our own teddy here
please feel free to add your opinions on the one book you own
the more input and opinions there is
the easier it is for each one to make up his/her mind
but today i'd like to introduce you to a book i LOOOOOVE...
so that it's clear this is one of my favourite books on the subject of cannabis or directly related
Let me present you:
Laurence Cherniak's Great book of hashish (vol. 1 Morocco, Lebanon, Afghanistan, the Himalayas)
DSCF8204.JPG 149.15KB 4 downloads
Ok here we go
this one, as i said earlier, is one of my favourite cannabis related book...
As the title mentions, it's pretty defintive about what s in it
it does say what s in on the tin
Every information you could have dreamed of asking if you were this hippie on the hashish trail in the late 60ies early 70ies that Cherniak (the author) seems to be...
It s full of hash stories gathered 1st hand by the author in those countries where hashish (or ganja use for that matter) is kind of traditional
He explains us with lots of colour pictures how different those traditions are
How proud each and every farmer he seems to encounter is of his labour
Wonderful pictures of people making hash their way in each of the book section
Which is nicely divided in chapters by region/country
Any way you look at it, it s an object of beauty: hardcover, dustcover on top, lots of different hash, growing and harvested cannabis and hash making the traditional ways that exist in those regions/country and on top of that, you can almost feel the spirit inhabiting the trip surrounding the hash trail.
One that the passionate author obviously walked and travelled across.
Living the life of the locals; trying to mold himself in the spirit of the locals he was with at the time.
There are no advertising of any kind in this book
Except maybe for that hashish shop in Katmandu who was open when he was there in 1970!!!
If you want to feel the hashish trail experience, i think this book is the closest you can get while staying home in your sofa!!!
yes, it s that good in my eyes
i can't rant enough about this one so i ll stop abruptly here

the story of
Subcool's Dank. A breeder's tale.
DSCF8189.JPG 138.7KB 3 downloads
This one bears a special mention here...
Let me count you how i came to Green Passion...
It was like a bit more than a year ago.
I went to the dam with my girlfriend; she was having a company party there.
So of course i went along for the trip, the party, the free 4star hotel room... The lot!
I have to say i hate those kind of huge social events where you need to be your best hypocrite!!!
So all is well on the saturday morning as we trod into the dam center...
I wanted to visit the Pollinator company to buy one of their dry sifting machine..
I did, as well as the great books of hashish and .... yes you guessed it Dank
I did my best at the company's party and as soon as it was over, we went back into town to have a spliff and a drink in one of those famous coffeshops..
But i digress i m here to talk about Dank (the book).
So as we came back home i unpacked my new toys...
And i have to admit being amazed at the sight of Dank...
The picture quality, the detailed "specs" boxes for each strain reviewed; and lastly the stories in there were nicely written too!
What really got me was this special plant (in my eyes at least, having never tasted nor even heard of most of the strains in the book...) Jack The Ripper...
This one (and plenty of others too... ) made me want to know more about this Subcool guy...
I mean who is he??? I surely never heard of him round here...
Google being my friend, i quickly found his TGA site... and then in the links section was ... Yes Green Passion!!!
I looked a bit and decided i wanted to see the pics so i made myself member and you know the rest!
So i know a copy of dank 2.0 signed is on the way home... and even if it's not a new book but an updated version, i'll post an add-on when i'll have read it.
So, if you are interested in TGA porn and how some of their most famous strains came to life, this is a book toi own!
Also i feel the need to mention 2 things...
the 1st: Subcool shares a lot; so in fact dank is available online here on this very forum (take a look here :dank ;ok you need to dig a bit but everything is there! 10/10 man!!!)
the 2nd: there is NO publicity/advertisement at all in this one (and that's very rare!!! also Cherniak an Clarke did it too... Hats off to you 3 for that guys)
1 last thing: sub told me there was no more dank (the 1st) in the storage of the editor...
Seems it's destined to be a collector of some sort in some circle (like ours...)

I have a good chunk of these books but I'm excited to get Marijuana botany now. I always liked the pretty pictures in all my other books and Jorges book was very helpful but I'd like to think I'm experienced enough to be able to follow the Marijuana botany book you mentioned.
This is a great thread that I am thankful for. Great idea and much props for all the thoughts and info on all these different books.
Thank you for sharing!

but if you are strictly indoors and are interested in hydro then this book has many different set ups and info on details that jorge's book doesn't go into. it has little sketches/black & white photos to help you understand and its just as helpful, just not as pretty.
I'd say beginners can't go wrong with Jeorge's book. this book is definetly not for beginners.
the chapters are
1. Growing with Seeds
2. Growing with Clones
3. Building an Indoor Grow Room
4. Hydroponic and Organic Systems
5. Maintaining the Grow Room
6. Harvesting, Drying and Storing (no info or tips on curing)
Sorry if you were getting to this. I just thought I'd mention it and I got a little more into it than I meant to.
