Hello Everyone here at Green Passion!

I have to say that without everyone being so supportive and helpful since my very first post wondering..."Just what Cannabis is....how I could benefit....what is 6500K vs 2300K....MH vs HPS......."....I would have been absolutely LOST!

From the get-go several people welcomed me and reassured me that I would be fine and that Cannabis could help. Some individuals have offered insight into growing and others have passed on tidbits of knowledge that I will cherish and be sure to pass on. I want to thank several folks specifically: JAngel, CaliWildViolet420, XBRPete, GeeGee2, PlantBoy, Itinkso, Kazztats, Debhasgrn (Girl your card will be there soon!!!!), Spaceview, LuckyCat (what a gift for poetry!), DayTripping, Grayjay, theeyetye, RockyMountainHigh, IAmMike, Sabasi, RobotDinosaur (YOU have the cleanest grow room I know and it is inspiring!!!!), Subcool (running YOUR seeds for my very first run...THANK YOU for all you do!), and finally StormCrow (without you Granny I would still be lost wondering just how cannabis could help my situation!). If I have inadvertently left anyone out I apologize as it is not my intention but battery life on the laptop is running low!smhug.gifsmhug.gifsmhug.gif

As many of you know, I have been waiting for my medical card and grow approval. I can happily state that I have both and am grateful!!!!

Without further ado......

SANDIA'S FIRST GROW JOURNAL!

I wanted to make this journal so that I could "Pay It Forward" to others that may be in a similar situation as I am AND so that any "newbies" such as myself, can see that with a little time, patience, love, and luck that anyone can grow the medicine they need!

The genetics that I will be using are from Subcool. I am restricted by my state to only have 12 seedlings and 12 mature plants so that what I am forced to use. I will NOT go over this limit. You may notice that I am 48 hours from "popping"...I wanted to do this so that I would have some pictures for folks to see. If I post TOO many of these things then PLEASE JAngel, XBRPete....LET ME KNOW!

The "Man Cave" is almost completed and I am still dialing in a few things but it is ready to start! If you would like to see how I began from nothing to this then please check out this thread -----> http://www.greenpass...ead.php?t=20273

I am probably over the length for a post so I will start another now!!!!

Thanks to ALL of GREEN PASSION! This is BY FAR the best forum/family out there!!!!

:)

SOAKING/GERMINATING I have received some really good guidance from XBRPete, who is nothing short of amazing in my book, and he is very patient with me...constantly coaching, mentoring, and laughing with me. I started the seeds (5 Querkle, 5 Vortex, 2 Dairy Queen all from SubCool) by soaking them in Distilled Water from Wally World. I used the tried and true paper towel method and placed the seeds in the folded over towels that were damp...NOT SOAKED! I then placed them in Ziploc baggies, put them in a little box, and then waited for 24 hours. One Querkle actually cracked open but I decided to give "her" the chance to get a bit bigger (root) in the towels. The box maintained a temperature from 76-79 degrees f for the entire duration. Once they were soaked for the initial 24 hours, I took a peak and all seeds had cracked. All the seeds popped....all had good taproots (with one runt). Here are some pics of the first event!

All of the sprouted seeds went into "Party Cups" with a mixture of Fox Farm's Light Warrior (2/3) and Perlite(1/3). Perlite was rinsed before hand and is some DUSTY stuff....I wore a mask. I added a gallon of distilled water to this and stirred it all up. I then took the cups and drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom so that the water could drain out and not remain in the bottom of the cups. From there I placed a pencil in the dirt mixture and placed the sprouted seeds into the little hole and covered them up. After this was done, I misted the cups with distilled water and placed them under 6x100W CFLs 6500K. Into the cave they went!!!!! They are on a 24hr light cycle for now and will be reduced down to an 18/6 shortly. Here are some shots not even 24 hours after they went into the dirt mix!

48 hours later the little ones are doing MARVELOUSLY! I check on them every couple of hours...to be honest sometimes every 15 minutes (LOL). They grow FAST! After ensuring that I mist the SOIL every so often taking care not to let any droplets get on the surface of the cotyledons as they could act as a prizm, I noticed that some of them are actually moving towards the most intense light. For this I have simply turned the cup 180 degrees and lo and behold, the little ones track to the light! Temps in the room are around 76-78 and the temp at the leaf surface is about 79 degrees (couple of times it bumped 80). I have kept the lights about 2 inches from the tops of the newly formed leaves. I am REALLY EXCITED at this point as there are the first set of "real leaves", not just the cotyledons! Here are some shots from 24-48 hours.....I am pretty dang happy right now. I have also placed a small desk fan to blow over the little ones so that it keeps the "leaf temps" down to below 80 degrees F and also to help vibrate them a little to simulate wind (thanks for the tip Pete!!!!). The pictures are taken on just a little Canon Digital Elph 7.1 megapixel camera I have had for years in case anyone is wondering....I know I do when folks are taking pictures! By no means a pro at all.... I also added another set of two 100W CFLs to the mix. If there is any confusion that is what they are "rated" at...they are in all actuality 23 Watters all purchased at Lowes. I used the 250W "Brooding Lamps" and just took off the reflectors and put a Y connector so that two bulbs could be used. The entire setup is just hung over a 2x4 that is on two plastic sawhorses. Cheap, easy, simple. So here are the shots and my last one for the journal tonight!!!! Well maybe ONE more after this one!!!! LOL Any comments/advice please zap it my way!!!! I love you all!!!!! smhug.gifsmhug.gifsmhug.gif PS.....the pictures of the little plants with the droplets on them were taken immediately after misting them. I took the corner of a paper towel and "touched" the droplets so that they absorbed into the towel. Probably being over-cautious on the "prism effect" but didn't want to take any chances....my OCD coming out (That's for you JAngel :))

Well my battery died and I want to put up ONE more post. This basically outlines the 48-60 hour point. Some good shots for those folks that want to see just how much these babies can grow. If you notice, I placed a little fan AND a 2.5 gallon container with water in the room. The humidity dropped to 20% and is the norm for the desert out here. I figured by adding this tub and placing a microfiber cloth in it to increase the surface area, this would "bump up" the humidity. By doing so I managed to get the humidity up to 35-40%. If the humidity ever gets to be a problem, I am prepared to place a small cheap humidifier in the room. So.....here are some shots from roughly 48-60 hours........ Just so you all know, I move the lights and the little crate I picked up from the nursery (gotta love "used stuff") for the pictures. Sometimes I move the lights up to take a shot and sometimes I shift the crate around. The last picture is how I have it setup for 90% of the time! Again comments/advice are always welcome!!!! smhug.gifsmhug.gifsmhug.gif

Dang!...Th@'s on my scribble list of uses for a shamwow in the growroom!
Great minds, huh?smhug.gif

A Giant rolled&tied Shamwow in a 9L bucket of water with a fan blowing over it...a humidity wick!

Also emergency spill cleanup...great near electrics!

cover a pot so sprays don't penetrate...

Emergency watering of pots when called away a few days...

Air deodorizer...{Same setup as with the Humidity wick, but with the addition of disinfectant or essential oils}.:)

Sandia, Awesome and looking good like usual.:) I'm going to follow you journal close as I'd like to try some seeds from subcool, when it's finished you'll have to let me, us know how it works for your pain. Using a aerator in a bucket of water will make the humidity go up quick too. Good luck I know you'll do great. DT

Hi Everyone, Back from the ASA meeting and it was informative and met some nice folks! Looks like I will be participating with them a bit more actively in the future!!! Plants are still happy....letting the soil dry out a bit more today....dont want to over water them. Temps in the high 70's with a spike to 81 when the room is closed and the AC is off. Working on dialing in that AC unit this afternoon. No pics now but will have some up tonight! Thanks again to all of you!!!!

Ok some shots from the 96 hour timeframe....not much to say but I have the AC running to keep the room temps at under 80 F at the tips of the leaves. Room temps hover in around 75 F but the little sensor I have at the leaf height is a few degrees warmer due to the lights. Height of the bulbs from the leaf tips is 2.5 inches. The AC unit provides good air circulation and I am still dialing it in. The little fan from Wally World is giving a good breeze across the "ladies"...... Shamwow humidifier...(thanks Medi for the term).....is running fine. One thing that I did tonight that I had not done previously is to give three of the ladies a good bit of distilled water. I have been giving about 10-12 squirts twice daily to each of the cups but wanted to see how a bit more water would do for them. Each of the cups gets dry on the surface and a bit damp a bit deeper down. This is a tough call figuring out how much they need so we will see tomorrow how they do when I get up to check. Three of the cups (dairy queen, vortex, and querkle) received a bunch of squirts so that the water just barely started to come out of the holes in the cups. I wanted to see if this was too much or just right for the girls. My own little experiment. Will update you tomorrow on the results. Pictures now for everone!!!!! :)

Hey Sandia; grats on getting your grow started. I can't wait to see the results; I'll be following your grow closely. You're now not only a medical user but also a pioneer, engaging in direct action and civil disobedience against corrupt laws just like everyone else growing a plant who's illegality has no merit; you have become a revolutionary of sorts........perhaps a bit too much weed tonight along with too much Derrick Jensen making me get a bit political. Best of luck; I hope it all goes well :)

Sandia, looking sweet.:) I like the light setup, where did you get the double bulb things? What the white thing sticking up? I'm think of adding some CFL to my grow during 12/12 to help out, I've been reading about them. Man though's red cups, :) it seems most use them, I do. DT
