Cork drug factory 'one of biggest ever' Monday, 26 January 2009 Gardaí say the cannabis factory discovered on the northside of Cork City last night is one of the biggest of its kind ever uncovered in Ireland.

They estimate it cost up to €500,000 to set up the factory, located in a warehouse on the Hollyhill Industrial Estate.

Some 1,200 cannabis plants were seized. Gardaí believe they may have had a street value of €360,000.
Investigating gardaí say the set-up was very sophisticated and included heavy duty lighting on tracks and fans, used as part of the hydroponic cultivation of the plants.
Superintendent Con Cadogan, who is heading up the investigation, said the plants were being grown in four stages.

A team of forensic investigators from Dublin have arrived at the warehouse where a meticulous examination of the building was being carried out this afternoon.

Meanwhile, gardaí continue to question a man in his early 20s arrested prior to last night's discovery.

Thats east coast montreal type thing. I live by ''Brittish'' Columbia and I often meet people who may not be canadian but they deffently have a Scott or Brittish way about them. Hey diversity the spice of life! I love this site for you can meet people from all over!

I'm in Ireland and yes,people seem to love weed here, not to same extant as alcohol but they're going there. typical street value is from 200 to 300euro/oz so it seems quite realistic what they wrote in the paper. also legal smokes are extremely popular and the cost of the 3g bag of typical herbs is 35euro.judging by the number of people buying legal stock and the range of theur age there's huge market for weed in Ireland for sure.and also home gardening grows in popularity too,what is a good news.the bad news is that herb is not the first most popular drug of choice for Irish and if we pass alcohol and tobacco the cocaine will be on the first place.but this doesn't seem to bother police so much as cannabis consumers, what is as normal as everywhere else in the world

Well in my little corner of the US coke is everywhere also . We like to stick to the stuff nature provided us - and I think everyone would be happier that way . The reason cops go for the green stuff - at least IMO - is all politics . If people found out how great it was , and how useful , they would never be able to scare ppl away from it - or scare them into hiding it . Then theyd havve to legalize it - and we all know why they dont want to do that
