Well Green got himself a carbon filter as i wanted to try what a bought 60 bucks filter can do compared to my home made ones but now i'm sitting here confused with the filter part and a separate flange piece that isn't fixed to the filter yet - and now is the big question on how to fix this thing...
Any ideas anyone? thought of crazy glue first, but dropped the idea due to all the fine carbon dust on the metal parts.

Hey Green, How are you?
Is the flange the same shape as the filter? What shape is it? Where is the filter going to be mounted? A quick pic will help.

One moment GSR, i try to upload pics here of the piece so everyone can tell what the fuzz is about.

i guess i should try to add a few pictures to point out my trouble...
the first is the filter without the flange and the rest are pics from the flange from different angles - ignore the mesh pot, that belongs to a DWC unit that is in work and not to the filterl
Any ideas anyone?

What about a 2 part epoxy to join them? I would use a rag with some rubbing alcohol to clean both metal parts up and then epoxy it. Automotive parts places have epoxies to join metal to metal perhaps you can try to get some there.
peace,

In the first pic, does the ring pop off or have screws to remove it?
Im thinking the loose piece is sitting correctly in the second pic and just needs to be "installed" under the outer ring. it would then provide a lip to attach ducting. Of course not seeing the whole thing clearly doesnt help.

as a cartridge for a cannister, which you do not have and as a stand alone type of filter. the flange would be to attach a hose
Quickest and easiest no mess. Use self tapping #8 tech screws. Easy to install and easy to remove. if leakage is an issue you can fab a gasket from rubber sheet or even cardboard or form a gasket silicon stuff.. Put the flat of the flange atop the filter and screw it together.
Hope this helps.

no screws, no threating, noting to remove the top of the filter to place it on the inside as far as i can see...
i will check once more as this makes the most sense to me right now if this flange would fit but as said - can't see where to open it...

you do not open the filter, just set the flange with the flat side to the filter and attach. there arent any holes because they wanted to give you the option. As a cannister you put in a holder, you wouldn't want any holes in it because there is a gasket on the top that holds the filter in. When you attach the flange the holes are sealed. Scott is right you could use duct tape and that would be the absolute easiest. TEK screws will drill themselves. The tip is a drill. They did it as an option so you could do as you wished. I could very well be wrong but 30 years as an industrial mechanic and handling hundreds of filters, make me pretty sure but I could be wrong
It is your grow good luck. I hope you find the easiest way for you.
Hahahaha, I'm havin' a moment 2. This is what I intended.
I am glad we are together on this and thanx for fixin the backwards drawing
The puff ain't the problem it's the opiates I eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can't freakin think straight.
Hi Green,
WB456 has it correct you buy self tapping screws and secure the flange to the filter. that's it. If you want, you can also seal the connection with metal tape. You'll need the correct bit for the screws and a drill motor.
GSR
hahaha - i already using it to fix the adapters to the 5" fan so it can be connected to the 6" filter, can't use it on everything here, or can I
Well, lets hope that this lazy shop get down to my email soon, maybe they know the trick and if not i will us some epoxy and glue it shut Friday night, guess this will be the best to fix it the easy way.

Okay then, it is TAK and epoxy time - sounds still a bit odd to me to fix it with screws but you spend more time mounting those

the shop answered my mail last night: fix it with some silicon and some TAK screws - i think i had the same answer days before thanks to wb456
Then the TEK screws either have a phillips head or a head that looks like a nut
Get the attachment for the tek screws when you buy the screws. It fits in the drill.ask the store attendant and he will fix you up. The screws will drill themselves and screw themselves in it is easy

well, i found the phillips version so far, so my phillips bits will do the job just fine
