I don't know if anyone has thought of this, and with the clever folks around here I'm sure someone has.

If you were worried about fan noise or light leaks, you could rig a motion detector to shut everything down when someone enters the room. A simple light switch would allow you to bypass the motion detector when you are present, or activate it when you leave. This would be especially good for those who rent and fear that the landlord will pay a visit when they are away.

Any thoughts anyone?

i have a similar problem, my girlfriend cant stand noise at night... hehehehe cna this system be person specific?? hehehe
i have no idea what ll happen when i build my setup and turn it on, hehehe im in for a show

if you turn off the fan or lights with the motion detector or some type of switch wont it make your grow smell because you arent sucking the air out thru your carbon filter .

Never used a motion sensor but i have used remote switches made for Christmas lights. They can handle 1400 watts so more then enough for the average cab setup. I simply carry the remote on my keys so i can push the button if someone comes by. The smell doesn't seem to come on to fast but can take awhile to go away once it comes.

If you use either one be sure to take the fact that the bulb stays hot long after the fans stop into the equation if you use HID lighting. I leave afew extra inches for safety.

Why not just use something to cover the noise from the box? You could setup a small fish tank on top or next to your grow cab, the noise from the air pump should drown out the muffled fan noises from inside your cab.

another way to muffle an exhaust is to find a cooler big enough to fit the fan,
then just cut holes for air in and out and mount the fan in the cooler, instant
muffler!

you could also build a wooden box to house the fan with foamboard for insulation.

for me, the motion sensor wouldn't work as well as just muffling the fan because
my fan seems loudest when it kicks on and off.

I do the same thing. Good advice about leaving extra space for the bulb to cool down. I learned that the hard way when I burnt the top half of some good buds.

yeah i had to learn that one the hard way myself, hence the waring for others. The more i think about the motion sensor the less i think it would work for me. I'm sure someone has the memory for it but mines not so good. I know a guy who has been successfull at being his own timer, he would probably remember to turn the sensor off but i can't see me remembering.
