Smell went away....
Ok, yesterday (I think) our plants stopped smelling so strong. Is this normal close to harvest time? They were smelling really smelly and strong, then all of a sudden it just went away. It has been getting extra hot in the grow room due to added lights and warmer weather outside...could that have something to do with it?

I love your setup, how ingenious of you. The smell is going to vary, I love touching the plants, it makes the plant give off a heavy odor. Than smell your fingers.
Peace

Don't know how many times I've stood there in the flower room, just adoring my gals (proud of 'em!) and reached out and copped a feel of a fat juicy bud...then the looonnnggg sniffffff...
When the BlackBerry is in flower I want to bottle that smell and sell it as room fragerance...
Hiouchi: Sweet set-up with the CFL's...good design work!
What temps is it getting up to in there? Are they getting a fair supply of fresh air?
Like Vid said...smells come and go..and some linger longer than others.

Can't wait to enjoy that pleasure myself. Hey Hiouchi, where do you bathe? It looks like your girls have the tub. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

OMG videoman, that is so weird. We were just in there doing that exact thing and I decided to come check the thread before bed. We hadn't actually handled the buds before. They are actually very thick and they smell sooo yummy!
ISO2BWELL: The temps are getting up to about 90 last few days, while lights are on. And it's been pretty hot outside and our home is like a slow roaster and heats up through the day. Weather been cooler today though, hopefully it will start raining again and temps will drop...only expecting another week or two, maybe, before harvest..we open the door to the room from about 8pm - 10 or 11pm, but that's about all the fresh air they get. (Can't really give them much more) Have a fan set up for circulation.
talisman: LOL, We use the hose outside....

don't worry about not smelling them, they still smell great but you nose locks up after some time - that is at least what happens to me each time, in the last 3-4 weeks i can't really smell anything strong anymore if at all, but the smell is there

Hey Chiefa, Yes it would be better to have alittle more than what is needed to clean the air.Less work for the fans to do and the longer your equipment will last.I wouldnt go over broad but alittle is good.Air tight it will rush out of that space as soon as you open the door. And it will be a thick smell too. Peace

Chiefa, do you know where you are getting your vortex fan from? Some companies have a combanation fan/carbin filter that will do well for you. It is from HIDHUT if you are importing yours. Depends where you get it from, but try to get them at the same time, then you will have no worries.
That will be fine for intake, but if the grill over the hole is open to the outside make sure you put screen of some kind over it so no little creepie crawlies will get in. And cold air intake should be at the bottom of your grow so you get good air circulation. If that is what you mean, then that will be fine. If you get a 6in. vortex, make sure you have a 12 inch vent for passive air intake in.
Let me know if you understand all this. If not I will explain further.
have a good one, my friend!

I got the 6'' fan carbon filter from HIDHUT - very pleased with price and perfromance for a similar space to Cheifa, one thing I'm glad I added was that little dimmer attachment to vary the fan speed....only needed top speed the last few weeks.....
GREAT LOOKING SET-UP HIOUCHI!

Our wives must share the same brain on this issue...warning...if she says she can smell it never say she is imagining it...try this "yes I noticed it also, I have some more things I am going to try right away to get rid of it, I share you concern about this issue" then check with us, there are plenty of things to do for the little bit of odor that will get past the carbon filter...three letters..O...N...A!

Hey Chiefa,I run a 200cfm exhaust fan through 4" carbon filter.I have no smell.I also have that odor bucket that's posted in the diy fourm and it works too. The wife dosent smell anything, dogs, cat, and there littler box.Like scott said do get a speed controler.I got mind at Harbor fright for $9.95 they call it a router speed controler. It's the same ones they sell at the hydro shops for $29.00 to $49.00 bucks.Do like jangels said ,two times the sizes of the exhaust for the intake and put it down low.My cab is about the same size as you want to build. You dont have to exhaust to the outside with a carbon filter. If you are bring in air from outside do put a screen and filter over the intake.A furnace filter dose just fine,it will stop the dirt and dust that will come in,and the screen stops bugs.Peace
