Cheap DWC Build (1Plant)
In this thread we will be building a cheap one plant DWC system.
To start we need a Cat litter pail or any other pail with lid will do. I like square pots/pails to maximize my space.
DSC00001.JPG
Then you will need a mess pot, If you can't get one you can make a pot out of a plastic beer cup and a sharp knife.
Place the pot were you want it and trace around it with a marker.
DSC00003.JPG
Next you will want to draw a inner circle making sure the lip of the net pot has something to rest on once the inner circle is cut out..
Also just above the pot hole there is a black dot, That will be the hole for the air line..
DSC00004.JPG
I will be using a mastercraft rotary tool to cut the holes, A hole saw will work much easier.
Aways Wear SafteyGlasses!!
DSC00005.JPG
Cutting the inner circle. And cut the little hole for the air line.
DSC00006.JPG
Try to make the pot fit as snugg as possible to keep the plant from falling over.
You can see the air line hole to the right of the pot.
DSC00007.JPG
The main pieces The Air pump and an Air stone. you will also need air line/tube.
DSC00008.JPG
Drop the stone to the bottom of the pail, And fish the airline/tube threw the little hole.
DSC00009.JPG
Plug the airline/tube in to the pump.
DSC00010.JPG
Plug in the pump and you have bubble's!!
DSC00011.JPG
I use Fish/SeaWeed Emulsion's for my fert's but feel free to use anything you like. Read the instructions before you use any ferts. you don't want to burn you baby's.
Keep the pot just under the water level till root's show then you can be more free with the water level, but always keep roots submerged/in water, But try to keep it topped up less stress for the roots.
**PH should be between 5.5 to 6.1 for best results between 5.7 and 5.9 is your target**
This system cost me about $20 and I got $10 worth of free cat litter with it..

Pretty cool, Shaman. I'm almost tempted to build one and try a hydro grow myself.

If you, SHAMAN, ever plan a book on growing, I would really like to help with proofing, ghostwriting, etc.
I am serious.

In this pic for this plant I'm using; 6-40watt tubes and 4-42watt CFL's
Pot size; I got a bunch of small pots for free, Doesn't really matter on pot size the roots grow in to the pail. Some people say you need atleased a 3in pot..

If you are using a 3" pot, be sure you can secure that plant if it gets too large!
I used 3" net pots in my 2 plants currently in flower, and found that they are not stable enough on top of the tub/pail unless secured by other means as well. Maybe it's because I let the plants get so big...I don't know, but I LOVE these bigger lids w/built in large net pot...uses lots of expanded clay, but really is solid!
6" Mesh Pot/Bucket Lid

This plant went from 4-15w CFL's and 2-42w CFL's when it was first rooted.
Then I put it under my 400w hps for a bit started fruit/flower, then I put it in my mothering chamber with 6-40w tubes and 4-42watt CFL's.
You all can see it grow in this thread; Kieahtoka & Shaman's under water Adventure

I love all fish and seaweed ferts, Organic goodness!! I know what works for me and Iam sticking to it.
I gave up on other fert's, They leave a bad taste in my mouth. No matter how long I flush for..
Right now Iam getting a good deal on this stuff; Wilson Fish based All purpose plant food.. N6.P6.K6 for veg and N5.P10.K5 for fruit/flower.
Would you believe I am paying 50cent's each for a 500g jug right now cuz it the off season!!

*****Remember to keep you Fish/SeaWeed emulsion's in the fridge they can and will go bad if left out*****
