Question Flowering question...Slightly Confused

Hey everyone,

I've been wondering something after checking out some flowering pictures. The first two weeks of flowering pretty much determines the sex of plants but doesn't really (in most cases?) add on any heavy calyx growth right? So when I hear people saying "This is what my buds look like after two weeks of flowering" am I correct in assuming they mean two weeks after the initial two weeks of sexing?

Because I'm four days shy of two weeks worth of 12/12 and I don't see any heavy flowering, just the beginnings of some white hairs. Should I even be concerned? I understand that strain probably plays a role in this question but I'm talking in general.

Thanks,

-the Corsican.

Yea, has lots to do with strain. But my experience is the about week 4 or 5 is when the plant stops stretching so much and goes into full flower mode.

My experience has been stretching stopping around week three (three weeks after going 12/12) and it is normal to only have white hairs for your buds. Your third, fourth & fifth weeks are when they put on the most bulk (you'll notice that your feeding charts will have heaviest feedings during these weeks to support it)

I had plants stretch almost the entire time of flowering, and those plants took two full weeks to even start guessing at the sex. Other plants I've had stop stretching after a few weeks and showed sex after only a week of flowering... I don't have identifiable genetics, so I kinda go by the seat of my pants when it comes to that. I have noticed that the plants do tend to put on the bulk of they're weight in the last three weeks or so, so if they are looking small for a while, don't worry.

I start the count down at the first sign of flowering...some strains take about two weeks to transition into bloom some are faster...My Recon cut shows white hairs after 6 days on 12/12...then I typically let her go for 8-9 weeks from there before the chop.

Here is pic of my girl at 2 weeks from firts sign of flower

As far as stretch I have noticed in my experience that once your plants have crowned (have a mass of white hairs about the size of a finger tip on top) the stretch is done.

Great feedback everyone, thanks a lot.

Damn Camster! That's amazing after only two weeks! How does the strain finish up? Are the buds big and dense?

She does all the work...I just feed her=)

I usually pull between 1.5 to 2.0 per plant that finish in the range of 28"-36"...My last run was 6oz 18 gr from 5 plants 3oz of which I gave away to friends that are short funded...but it's all good since what we put out is what we receive...Anyhow...The nugs are nice and dense...I'm pleased with them someone else might not be but I'm not to hard to please.

She falls over come harvest she get so heavy=)

I think that you have a great question C. When I started scanning the forums, I too noticed differences in week 2 of flowering. One determinant would be the start of the period. Most refer to the first 2 weeks being the time period under 12/12 in which case one might only have pistils and two hairs at the nodes. Some strains taking ten days to show sex, others like my Maui show after only 24 hours.

It is also like how I identify my starts, the markers show date that beans with tails are put into the growth medium. So my plants might not show for 5 days after my date.

All subjective, all leading to trichomes as the final determinant...

Your grow looks great!

Peace!

Pete

Nah,

Five days is just the start of things (depending on strain). Leave a link to your grow brother.
