Dreamweaver is on a distinguished road
Default Dreamweaver's Development

Greetings all,

as advised I am starting my own growing journal (or will try to)

I am trying to grow White Widow plants from seeds, but finding that I lack knowledge in growing this herb! Being a newbie, a lot I have done seems to be trial and error (lost two of my seeds) and looking at others pictures my plants just dont seem to match up in any way (only the ww ones)

My hubby kindly insulated our loft and put up some of those special eco lights (white) as growing here in the UK is a lot different to Africa (I am an born and bred Rhodesian - now known as Zimbabwe).

Before I go any further I will endevour to get a few pictures as I need all the advice I can get - so this icon is very apt

Rainbow blessings to all

just a quick question when you cracked the seeds and as they are first starting to grow have you added fertilizer yet?? it does help but make it like 1/2 strength seeing as you dont want to overwhelm your new babbies. also if they are under a light get the dang thing as closely as possible to the plants with out it touching (i my self am using my fish tank 10,000 k cfls for lack of better lighting atm).

and do what im going to do just take a picture with your phone and send it to your email.

GL to ya and may they all be a bunch of ladies.

Greetings U,Zeek

ummmm I just planted the seeds in potting soil - they grew fine out in what little sun England's gets, however we are in our autumn now, so I have taken them up into the loft (about 10 days ago) and now use the eco lights leaving them on for 8 hours at a time. Am an avid gardener so have my own compost heap which is what I mixed with the soil. I dont tend to use chemical fertilizer, so if you can recommend a natural one, I would appreciate it.

Roared with laughter at your "statment" ~ just take a pic with your phone ~ as I dont have one them either, will have to use my old fashioned camera and download onto my computer. Hopefully will get around to it in the morning.

The lights are 600w and they generate a lot of warmth/heat and the plants grew over 5' so I have had to bend them, and now these stems are growing as well.

I was under the impression that the 5 seeds I had been given were female and now I will have to do some research online to find out if they are male or female. This poor old brain of mine is going to have to get into gear. Weird as I can grow any legal herb you like, but this is totally new to me.

Bless your heart for your input

Hi DreamWeaver, glad you decided to do a journal,, You will get a lot of advice here, good advice. But it sounds like you are doing pretty good....Can't wait to see pictures,, For organic growing, which is the way to go in my opinion, There is a forum called Organic Growing and there is a lot of info there,, But also don't hesitate to ask anything you will need help with,, Happy Growing to you Dream

well if you arent using chemical liquid fertilizers then just pop em in the soil and hope but for later on down the road and something you can add into your compost heap is yucca extract (im beginning to sound like a broke record but it works) the link below is the best priced i have found since it has to come from either mexico or arizona/ california. make sure you make it ballanced since it is a highly acid liquid 3.9 ph range.

Till laters

EDIT: Zeek found out yucca turned all pot male so don't use it!

One thing: Those lights should be on 18 hrs if they are vegging or 12 hours if they are in flower. NOT 8 hours sweetie, or you will have problems.

Just trying to help.

Good luck sweetie.

I will help however I can, and again, Welcome to GreenPassion!

Peace

(((U.Zeek))) ~ Bless your heart for that info, will do a bit of research on that, and than see if I can obtain some. Just read your last post, no problem, will do a little research online regarding natural fertilization.

(((jangel))) pardon my ignorance, but am uncertain as to the terminology you are using here, vegging? I am concerned about putting the lights on for 12 hours, as the plants whilst growing outside never got 12 hours, so I thought I would just stick to what they were used to. They are definately flowering now. Sighing do hope that I dont make a mess of it! Worried about the cost of the electricity to be honest as well. Thank you for the welcome

Vegging
During the early stages of a MJ grow you will need around 18 hours of light ( Known as Vegging ) for around 3 to 4 week, depending on how tall you can grow. See http://www.greenpassion.org/f16/what...ong-veg-14786/

Flowering
When they are at a size your happy with ( Usually 1/3 of the grow area height OR if you know the strain 1/3 of max height) you can switch to Flowering. 12 hour On/ 12 hours Off ( 12/12 ).

Cost of the electricity
You will see your usage increase around 100% with 12/12.
I went from 7 kwh to 21 kwh a day, during Vegging, then dropped to 14 kwh during Flowering.
Cost is dependant on your Tarrif. I recently changed supplier from EON to EDF as they are half the price on Electricity. Have a look at Uswitch or Moneysupermarket.
Saving the penny's
What I do is to use the 12/12 for flowering and Vegging, then pull all the plant I want to continue Vegging out. Leave them by the window to get some natural light or place under a CFL. As long as they have some light they will not enter the flowering cycle.

NB: Air flow is very important to plants, get yourself a good extractor fan for the attic.

Just a quick update,

not good news all around, first of all my son is now awaiting a kidney transplant, he is still very ill in hospital, hence I have not had any time to do anything. Secondly because I could not look after my plants in the loft, they have all died. Hopefully once my son is sorted and I can get some semblance of order in my life, I can pick up where I left off. I will try and pop in every now and then, but to be honest I have my hands fill at this given moment in time. I am around, so please dont delete me, okay.
