Default need some advice

what would be the simplest, cheapest grow for a small closet and a beginner just needing a private stash?

Soil grow, organics, cfl lights, with some fans, and leave the door open if you can....then you can build on that. Soil is more forgiving for the new grower. In Hydro things go south pretty fast, and you need a lot more equipment to start. And bag seed if you can get it to start.

To see my grow room start check out the first link in my signature.

Check out our DIY~Growing on the Cheap forum for ideas. Lots of closet grows and cab growers here. I am a cold room grower! LOL!

Peace

Start Simple & Easy, Add To It When You Get Your Feet Wet, & Before You Know It, It Will Be Out Of Hand!!!HEHEHE

Best Thing You Can Do Is, Put What You Want To Do Down On Paper, Kick It Around, Read What Others Have Done & Are Doing, Get A Good Idea On How Things Will Work & Won't For You, Then Go For It!!!

Complete noob myself, but I'd also consider going to hempy buckets. My first grow was soil (all turned out to be male so I didn't finish it) and while it was fairly straight forward, as someone who never felt compelled to grow anything in my life, I was never completely confident in my watering and feed schedule. On my second grow now (about 3 weeks into flower at this stage) using hempy buckets and it appears so far anyway to be fool proof. Just the fact that you feed everytime you water simplifies things (though it would also push cost up as you use more, plus I think hydro foods are more expensive).

The hempy bucket idea is a good one.

Buy an hps. Go for 50+ watts per sq ft.

do 2-3 Hempy's....yields will be crazy.......
