Default Cali Big Bud and Strawberry Cough

Hey all

Just wanted to document my new grow since my bag seed is in the flowering stages.

So i stay on the ball and get the help i need is what im mainly after.

The seeds have been germing for almost 3 weeks now. Original week they were by the window which made them kind of spindally so i made one of the rubbermaid joints and transplanted them there so they could be under 24/0 light.

SHould be noted i have 6 bulbs 2 each of the various K ratings, 2x2700, 2x3500, and 2x6500 to get the full spectrum.

You can see i have a 50cfm exhaust fan right about light level to extract air...keeps it a constant 73F and then 2 intakes to compensate for the exhaust. ignore the weight at the bottom, just for stability...tho i hope it has no negative affect.

In this grow are 2x Cali Big Bud, 2x Strawberry Cough, and 1x Misc seed midgrade.

Only had 3 CBB seeds from a friend so i planted them all then matched with the SC that i purchased. 2 of each germed.

Default trouble ahead....?

So i took these pics a few minutes ago because im a lil worried.

i raised the babies over the weekend and then checked on them yesterday and one looked burnt so i lowered them from the light in case that was the problem....but today i was thinking that maybe they are over watered(of course i thought that AFTER i watered them). They also seem very small for 3 weeks old.

So here are the pics of the babies...

any help would be appreciated.

yeah those are looking a little yellow, and definitely small for 3 weeks. how much are you watering them? what soil are you using? are you adding any nutrients? at this point no nutrients should be added, since they are still small. make sure you have drainage on those cups too. let the dirt dry out a little before watering again. you dont want roots sitting in water. good luck keep us updated!

Hi there, Do you have all the lights on at the moment? They wont need all those bulbs going at once early on.

hey siriguejo, you grow in cups - did you drill drain holes into them before use? If not do that quickly so that excess water can drain from the soil leaving room for air/oxygen, preventing that the roots start to rot away in an anaerobe environment.
The next thing i miss is a pH reading of your feeding water, or a mentioning of a pH pen/drip kit in our grow, or how many watts you got there in CFLs. Okay, the watt part matters less but the pH matters big time. if you got no meter nor kit get either quick, to low the pH of your feeding water you can use vinegar from your kitchen, to raise it again use your tab water. You also might need more 6500K CFLs for the vegging part, the 3500K/2700K are good to flower with but less ideal to veg with.

so my pH i finally tested, albiet with spa strips til i get a meter, tested above the meter of the strips so higher than 7.4 and this is probably acurate since the pipes are very old....RO is on the horizon. :-(

perchance i also need more drainage holes.

my total wattage is about 150W CFL. i just chose an even distribution of spectrum to "simulate" the sun and all 3 ranges are in use now.

stupidly i added some nutes but am goin to make sure the drain holes are big enough and unclogged.

i was very excited for this grow and at the moment am very dejected....live and learn

so i went back and checked and removed some debris from the holes and made one in the bottom center of the cup...didnt have one there and seemed to be some water sitting.

so whats the verdict with this situation...is this recoverable or not really?

to answer your question i was watering ever 3 days or so but w/o good draining they were being over watered...and i remember one day that they were sitting in water...im an idiot.

also i started this cup with MG organic that i had left over. i have since relinquished that to the tomato garden and purchased some "my state" organic compost mix. so we will see what happens in the near future.

It's growing so there are bumps along the way. Don't get discouraged they will get going and all this will be in the past soon enough. Grow on.

no nutes...MG organic soil w/20% perlite

pH is about 6.5

temps about 75

currently in blue solo cups BUT in the soil/cup is the peet jiffy pot which i was thinkin might be holding on to too much moisture OR preventing root growth(?) but directions said to just bury them :-(

I would try potting them up a bit in a non miracle grow soil mix. I am not saying the miracle grow is the problem, but I guessing you plants may jump start if you pot them up.. even slightly. The only reason I say not to use MG, is that I would want to know what nutes the plants are getting, and when. I *try* to avoid anything that already has nutes in it. Have you popped one out of the cups to see what the roots look like? Maybe try flushing them with PH neutral water either way.. some type of nute lock maybe?

Hi there I went back to the beginning and noticed you posted 2 weeks ago you added some nutes? How much and what type? If you soil is too dense they could be locked in and unless you flush the soil they may still be effecting these little seedlings?

Is the soil too dense and hard packed? They may be not getting enough oxygen to the roots too?

what do we grow/use here...DOH

yeah i added 1/4 strength Neptune's Organic fish fert...but then flushed, or attempted to flush that out...but think that was b4 i made better drain holes.

and come to think of it the soil does seem pretty compact...whats the solution for that. i could flush again to be safe but didnt want to over water. luckily they arent dead yet but they arent really thriving either..

repot and give a good watering and see if that solves the issue?

thanks a ton everyone.
