Walmart Diy Pencil Cup Carbon Air Filter

For all of the DIY low Budget'ers out there like me I myself cant take credit for this idea just a copy and paste job but i hope you all enjoy

Step 1
Picked up a few things at walmart.
Should get every thing for under $18

Black duck-tape
Black "Pencil cup"
Smaller black "Pencil cup"
Black ladies socks (pantyhose)
Activated carbon

Step 2
Poor some carbon in the mesh like "pencil cup"
.... just enough so the smaller cup is level with the larger cup.

Step 3
Slip the smaller cup into the sock

Step 4
Tuck the sock into the smaller cup holding the end of the sock. Pore in the carbon.. keep holding the end of the sock.

Step 5
Now pull on the end of the sock and use your finger to guide the carbon into the space between both cups until filled.

Step 6
Now pull the end of the sock over the entire filter.. twist the end of the sock at the bottom and pull it up over the end of the cup.

step 7
Now simply use duck-tape to place the filter over your exhaust fan. I used a rubber band to secure it...

and heres the rest also most people just use computer fan to push air thru which should fit snug

here is another cheap DIY Carbon Air Filter But this would be for a larger grow

Resources Needed:
HEPA Filter Cartridge
Silicon Caulking
Electric Drill
1/8″ Drill Bit
4″ Hole-Saw Bit
4″ Dryer Hose
4″ Dryer Hose Flange
5-Gallon Bucket With Airtight Lid
25lbs. Of Activated Carbon
Blower Fan

1. Start with using your 5-gallon bucket as a template on top of the HEPA filter, trace and cut a circle out. Make sure it accurately in the bottom of your bucket. Remove filter, set aside.
2. Using your drill with the 4″ hole-saw bit, cut a hole in the center of the 5-gallon bucket lid. Test the 4″ dryer hose flange for tight fitment within the hole.
3. With the dryer hose flange in the hole cut through the bucket lid. Take the silicon and apply caulk around the base of the base of the dryer hose flange and bucket lid. Let this set 4-6hrs for an airtight seal.
4. Take your drill and use the 1/8″ drill bit and randomly apply a few dozen holes in the bottom of your 5-gallon bucket (this is where fresh air comes out).
5. Insert your pre-cut HEPA filter into the bottom of your bucket. Add all of the activated carbon. Place lid on bucket and tightly sealed shut. Attach the 4″ dryer hose to the 4″ flange. Now dryer hose is connected to exhaust end of blower.

This will allow the blower fan to move air from your grow room through your 5-gallon filter. The porous carbon will eliminate all the odors from your garden as the air passes through the filters. A excellent way to clean the air of any smell emitting from your flowering garden.

yea dude gotta hand it to you pretty awesome i guess i should start posting my diys maybe it would help someone out just figured as you did that people already knew i have moved up from the closet stuff to a much larger scale so i think it might spark some intrests maybe but that is awesome and nice pics

Whatever DIY things you folks think up, Please do post them up! You never ever know who you can help. I said this to young420 earlier, we get many sick people here and sometimes for them, with little income it is the difference between buying meat one month or buying an expensive filter or fan or whatever equipement they need to grow their meds. And he was so kind to do this right away. Way to pay it foreward, Thank you so very much young420. It is appreciated.

well im glad i could help some if not many of you with this cant take the credit for another mans work but the thanks is appreciated and i want to send thanks out to who ever came up with this idea even though we may never know I seen this many years ago but ill find more because i have came across many different things like this in the past

is it better to push air through the filter or pull air thru the filter?

Best to pull it through, so the filter is before the exhaust fan, which is sucking hot stinky air out of the grow. Whatever works best for you. Very seldom do you get smell coming from the air intake going into the grow, if you exhaust is working.

These directions are a bit confusing. Drill the holes on the bottom of the bucket? Directly under the bucket? Or along the sides of the bottom? Do you add a screen or something to keep the carbon from falling out? Thanks.

I would just use air filters or a fine screened mesh or something of that nature i have a hightimes mag that shows how do this and explains this better give me some time and ill post it on here because my scanner isnt working but in the mag theres holes on the bottom of the bucket and then the air filter just goes over them inside the bucket so carbon doesnt fall out
