Hello from GP,
It's my pleasure to announce:
GP's Harvest Festival - 2009!

Please try to follow the guidelines for posting (copy paste the layout at the bottom of this post)
The prize this month will be a surprise pack of genetics from the TGAstrain guide
and
Dank: The Quest for the Very Best Marijuana
a Breeders tale . also by Subcool.
so lets see those entries ... happy harvests. any questions just post away. I'll be happy to answer what I can.
peace
ileso

What if my current harvest won't be ready to cut until August 10th?
Can I enter this contest with the current grow up to the point she is at by August 5th?
I'm growing some of that TC Killer ;>}

Is it necessary that the final harvest be dried and cured by July 5th?
She might be ready early but, naturally she won't be dried and cured by the deadline.
If not, I guess I'll have to wait ;>{
I already typed up the form information so, I guess I'll just add it to my grow log for now.

OK
no-one is interested in the prize? or no-one has harvested anything during the last 30 days? maybe the layout form is too hard to fill in....
ok guys and gals. i will extend it until september 30. hopefully by that time all the outdoor harvests will come in as well.
of course if no-one is interested by then I'll keep the prize for myself.
peace
ileso

I would be interested in submitting my Arjans Strawberry Haze at some point, but that one won't be harvested until mid October or so.. maybe if there is another contest.

hehehe
i guess it will depend on the feed back from this current contest.
but im hoping there will be alot of input.( i had hoped there would be over the last month but unfortunately i over estimated what the feedback would be) .. even with some of subcools great strains up for grabs! if i wasnt a mod i'd be all over it.

This is good news... We have had a few good harvests but none well documented with lots of pics. I've got a new camera I'll have to start putting to good use. We have several strains to report on. They will be a tad incomplete by the end of September, since some of them won't finish until October and then you have to dry and cure.... To bad this isn't pushed out until the end of November and made an annual contest. It would make a great Harvest celebration tradition for GP.

Awesome! It gives the indoor and outdoor people something to aim for and will help build a great strain guide personalized by GP members. Setting the deadline to coincide with the outdoor grow only makes sense. Indoor grows can continue throughout the year so they don't have the seasonal restrictions.
Concerning the strain guide, please refer to my next upcoming post.

Invoking the Spirit of the Plant
A strain guide comprised of a collection of random GP users is good for several reasons. There will always be differences in opinions and differences in grow techniques applied to even the same strains. A culmination of information will help bring some uniformity of opinions and terminology.
This is a little off topic, but then again not. I found a writing by Jason King in the Cannabible 2 very interesting. It's on page 169 with the heading: Invoking the Spirit of the Plant. Please enjoy!
Quote:
By Jason King
With so many strains and so many growers, it is no wonder there is such a variety of smoke available to us all. In the fine-tuning of the Kind, we begin to notice a difference between the same strain grown by two different people living in the same town, using the same method. How does this happen? How could one person grow Mothership and another grow what turns out to be a lesser version of the same clone known as the Othership? Could it be that this female plant responds best to a female cultivator? Maybe one of the growers had a rough, stressful, and paranoid personal life between harvests. All this is possible, yet if you pay close attention, you will notice something else going on.
It is interesting to note that a cultivator, say Bob, can grow several different strains, yet each will be recognizable as Bob's herb. It is not just the fertilizers or lights that Bob uses--It's Bob's energy being expressed through the plant. For example, I know a grower, let's again say Bob, whose many strains all carry a particularly unique purple, spicy, and creamy flavor. Each various strain in his vast collection is individually recognizable, yet it is all very obviously "Bob herb."
If you took ten clones from the same plant and gave them to ten different growers, you would very likely see ten very different samples when all was said and done. This will happen even when multiple growers are using the exact same setup, even in the same town (see Train-wreck, pages 165-68, for multiple examples from the same clone).
So, what I'm getting at is that the personal essence of the grower, their "vibe," has much to do with the resulting harvest. For example, I've never met anyone who has tried real Big Sur Holy Nugs that didn't think it was the finest herb they ever smoked. This legendary herb was said to have been grown by monks who meditated and prayed with the plants daily. Is it possible that their high vibration had an effect on the ganja they grew? I believe so.
In addition, another level can be applied. Upon closer examination, you may find that the Othership grower has yet to develop a spiritual connection with the plant. Often, in the beginning stages of cultivation of a strain, the grower needs to take time to get to know all of the particular needs and the creative expression of the plant. This connection can be deeply enhanced with lovingly enthusiastic communication. This may be done verbally, with the caregiver singing praises to the lovely green ladies. It may come about through an attentive touch and awareness to details. Most effectively, a grower can learn to invoke the spirit of the plant through receiving its messages. While meditating with, smelling, smoking, vaporizing, eating, or ingesting the herb in any other way, the masterful cultivators will learn to synergize themselves with the unique essence of the herb and will in turn be more able to help bring forth its ultimate beauty. This method of blending with the plant and then lovingly invoking its essence to return in the new form is humankind communing with nature at its highest and best.
