How many gallons of water per plant per season.
Allrightynow. I found a few acres of scrub pine east of Weed, CA. Way off the grid. I will need to truck in the water for all my needs. We have found several sources for cheap water and will be looking for more.
What I am wondering is how many gallons of water would be needed for one plant for one season? Any help with determining the amount would be greatly appreciated and hopefully of benefit to others out there dreaming the dream.
Thanks

that is a hard question to answer. what is your average rainfall, what type of soil is it, how big do you want it.

Precipitation - Temperature Averages
Sorry guys, I thought I was posting the link, when I checked it wasn't working. Using NOAA for Medford, OR these are the averages for the area. We would be useing the May - October season. Month = Average Precipitation = Average Temp
Jan ` 2.47 = 39.1F
Feb 2.10 = 43.5F
Mar 1.85 = 47.1F
Apr 1.31 = 51.6F
May 1.21 = 58.1F
June 0.68 = 65.6F
July 0.31 = 72.7F
Aug 0.52 = 72.5F
Sept 0.78 = 65.9F
Oct 1.31 = 55.1F
Nov 2.93 = 43.9F
Dec 2.90 = 38.1F

another question are you only planning to grow the one plant? but as for trucking in water, if this area is near the bottom of a hill or near a stream of anykind it might be alot easier on you. but what you could do is just take a couple of five gallon buckets with air tight lids fill em up camoflage them and then leave them out there for future use.

I'm figuring for no water on the property. By getting an idea of a per plant average I could then calculate the multiple per crop expectations, say 25 plants for an example. If during the season a plant required one or more 55 gal drums of water to reach maturity. How many would that be.
The property has a high side near the road enterance. Slope is gradual but sufficient for drip from a cistern storage tank that would be built. I'm not sure of the water table or depth requirement for well water in the area, so I'm figuring to truck it in for now.
Again any help would be appreciated

man its pretty much just always been play it by ear for me. but for an individual plant its a little harder to know because all plants are different. but just go with you plant will need at least 55 gallons of water in its life.

serenityrich,
I know that area well, you can count on zero rain, Each plant will take about 20 gallons per week during the growth stage, I water twice a week basically 10 gal per watering. You can calculate from that 20 per week. I assume these plants will be 6' min and in the ground?

There it is GSR - Thank You and Moonbuscuit for your help. The plants will be 6in and already started from seed. I will use 20 gal per week per plant for my calculations, that will work for me. If it all comes together will report back on the results.
Again thank you

I had a 55 gal plastic drums I buried in the ground about 2 in from the top was sticking out, put a fine mesh screen over the top of it (clamped down) to keep debris and vermin out ,cameoed by a bush.Added bleach from time to time to ward off mold and fungus. Also had a tuff box buried with a hose, battery ,water pump, dynamite, shovels etc.......... huh,DYNAMITE!!!!! just joshin ya,luggin water to feed 50 plants is hard work. For that matter, outdoor growin is not for the meek hearted, gota be tuff and smart.

Yeah the previous posters are right to many varibles. I give mine at least two gallons a day but that is growing in 20 gallon containers up to 30 gallon. So that naturally takes more water. The structure of your soil also dictates how much water you will use. Remember peralite adds drainage and vermiculite adds water storage.

Thanks Mogie,
So, that would be about 14 gal. per week.
"Remember peralite adds drainage and vermiculite adds water storage."
Thanks for the reminder, I will need to actually look at the soil on the property to get an idea of how to mix in stuff like this and ferterlizers.
For this particular piece of land I was thinking of using the 175 gallon tote that I posted about before. Add any ferts there and then drip down to the plants. It's a wonderful garden on my computer, in my head with many BIG plants all very medicinal...
