702, sorry, have been pretty busy harvesting and sick. You can root prune it, and cut it back as is shown in the thread added on the first page, or start a new clone to use. The final size of the pot should be no bigger that 6 inches square for the biggest pot. Hope that helps you.
Been pretty busy and not well so haven't updated in a bit. Here are some pics of the girls. I will do them one by one. First here is Isi, First is Sept 23 and the second is Oct 2, aprox. 10 days growth.
Here is a comparison of the other clones these where picked from, allowed to grow naturally, and how different they are in size now. This was taken Oct 4th. I find they are drying very quickly, so most likely need some root pruning and possibly potting up. I do not want to put them in pots too big but am having a hard time finding the sizes I want in pots. I will make do and show you what I come up with when I do replant them.
I have accidentaly killed 3 of my bonsai's. I should of listened to myself in the last post and transplanted them right then. Being harvest time, I just missed one watering and they where crispy. The funny thing was one was just fine. Isi is still well, and has been root pruned by 1/3, roots dusted with rooting hormone, and then repotted into a larger pot, the top pruned down a third as well. She is doing just fine and I have replacement clones coming along. as well as several other varieties for bonsai. I also have a thought that maybe there was some root rot in the stem. They are started in rapid rooters so maybe it all just din't do well together. Anyway, heres the pics!
Now, here is a question that I have come up with as far as which clones to use and how to root them:
1. I have some rooted in Rapid rooters, which are cocao based. I also have one rooted in a peat pellet. Niether of these will supply nutrients and can even break down and make the media acidic.
Is it better to start clones for bonsai in just perlite or other mixed loose media to make it easier to place in the small pots and root trim? Even if down the road you wanted to completly change the soil, you could if rooted in perlite, but not in a rapid rooter.
I have discovered the use of a bubbleponic float rooter system is one of the best rooting systems I've come across,I made my own and it's easy to do in any liquid tight container using foam as a float to hold your cuttings and as long as there is 1" of stem below float your cuttings don't need to be much larger, but I've found it's just as easy to root tips as stems with this rooter
here is a pic of roots that are 16 days(the large roots seen) and the others are 8 days with minamal OTC nutes.
Peace

I have been thinking of making one of those Jonny, as I think it would be a good solution. I have also found another possible reason my bonsai's died. I have found I have fraking fungas gnats and went and got myself armed to the teeth to fight them today. More on that later. Thanks for adding to this Jonny.
I had never thought about blooming a true topiary bonsai but i got to say it's one of the most beautiful Bonsai's I've ever seen...
I've made Bonsai's from junipers and cedars, but they are twigs compared to these....
Thank you for your insight to do this,
Peace

...aaaahhh, thanks Jonny. I always found the simplicity of japanese art and form, comforting. I have much oriental art in my home. It speaks to me. This is one reason to keep this going. It is art.
Alright, after losing 3 of my 4 bonsai's I had to wait to get some of my clones far enough along to bonsai. Now I have 4 more all planted up and it seems slowly I am winning the war with fungas gnats. Until I got them down in number there was no point planting up another bonsai to be killed. So far Isi is holding on as are the 2 nepali grizzly I bonsai'ed.
Here are the pics of the newest ones.
These include one of each:
Dutch Treat X Northern Lights, Lethal purple, Northern Flame and T-Clone 1 . I have 4 more varieties I wish to take clones from, for bonsai. A kish, t-clone 2, WW cross, and blueberry. as well as a Nepali Grizzly, but I think I will have to start another from seed to ever get this plant to go back to veg or to root a clone. It just is not happening with these girls. I like them though as they are unusual.
I will let you all know how they grow and how the next clones come along.
Hi folks. I have not had much to say as I am still battling the darn gnats. So far out of 8 small bonsai's and 2 larger ones, I have lost 6 of the small ones. I have found it is a combination of starting the bonsai's in cocoa based rapidrooters and the fungas gnats. What has happened is that with the cocoa fiber being the base of the root system it has not been able to fight off the low ph of the cocoa breaking down as well as the gnats snaking on the roots. As well, with bonsais you must be able to root prune. Possibly at times wash all the soil off the roots. You can never do it if the clones are started in rapidrooters. Just doesn't work. The two I have tentatively started now where cloned in perlite only for one, and soil for the other. I also still have those forever flowering Nepali grizzly I have bonsai'd. They are still forever flowering! I have again stripped them down, and save the small buds for hash or canna butter. I have some pics of this for you. I have had these in my veg area for months. Will not revert to veg at all. No way will they clone either.
I also have started a bubblecloner hoping that this will solve my cloning problem so there is hope! I will continue with this when I have some success in that regard! Enjoy the pics!
