ok,

im new to the led thingy.. so I'm really investigating it.
as far as i can tell. to grow plants its all about red and blue leds. right?

so how much use would these be?

Warm White 2.3w LED Light Globe - LED Lighting - Todae

theres also leds out there claiming 110lumens/watt.. anyway its still all a bit confusing for me. anyone like to explain it all to me like i was a five year old?

what equiptment is neaded, transformers? that sort of thing... like nice and easy for a 1mX1m area for a SOG type grow as an example.

i found some more stuff.. but as to its usefulness i'm pretty much in deep water..!

this one seems interesting!:
Conventional fluorescent lighting vs. LED tube replacements - Litesource

LED Lighting Products for commercial, industrial and residential applications

Led Lighting - Intro

http://www.led-designs.com/pdf/Powerled%203.RGB.pdf

these two caught my eye.. feedback plz?

Industrial LED lighting - High Bay and Flood Light
LED Lighting Products for commercial, industrial and residential applications

or is the whole spectrum wrong for growing?

checking out some credible sources says that LEDs are very effective in the spectra surrounding the mid 400s and the mid 600s. other than that you are just mood lighting

I believe it all comes down to providing the proper spectrum as well as the power to penetrate the distance necessary for a growing plant. I don't know much about these except that they don't penetrate space very far so, they might be good for 18" plants but not for 4 footers.

Now, if one were to build an entire cabinet with all walls and ceiling completely filled with these lights, allowing the ceiling to be raised as the plant grows, they might be used for larger plants.
