Rep Power: 29 | | 270 watt enhanced spectrum supernova 4 a home box?
I have a home box 31x31x63 and wanted to use the super nova for my 1st ever soil grow.I know its $1400 and the technology is still new and everyone says its only good 4 vegg.I really want to use the supernova cuz ive seen a 90 watt UFO in action and the little heat it gave off was amazing.I really like the no heat aspect because i cant run an a/c all the time and dont want to be buying all kinds of fans.I only want to yield a half decent amount of bud every few months for my self.Im not trying to break any records or make alot of money from growing,so dont tell me im better off with a HPS for flowering.I just want to know if you can get a decent yield from 3 to 5 plants by using just the super nova from start 2 finish. The other thing i was wondering, has anyone heard if theres something coming out better than the super nova anytime soon?i hate when you shell out the bucks 4 the newest and then in a week you got the oldest.lol

Rep Power: 138 | | I do not personally have a super nova but do know they are top end in this technology and from your 'need' of them and the size of your area, i think you are going to have MORE than a fine grow. Very nice choice in the light department I use l.e.d. lighting for my veg only but would seriously consider flowering with the supernova. The ones I was looking at had an adjustable spectrum and there are not too many led that have that option available at the present moment which really sets them apart. Please post pics of your grow so we can join in | | The Following User Says Thank You to Lacy For This Useful Post: | |

If I were going LED (and I've only considered it at this point), I would seriously consider/price buying LEDs in bulk and wiring them up my self. I would get real choosy with the LEDs I buy, getting the most powerful/PARful little bulbs I could find, and I can wire them to change spectrum if I relly cared to. :P Anyway, that is what I would do. The Super Nova looks neat, but you can buy a LOT of LEDs for $1400. (Just have to add up the other equipment you might need, ie ballasts etc. And with 1 watt LEDs, even at $1 a piece, that is only $270 for your lights, leaving you lots of room to play.)

Well pal, you seem to be a brave enough soul, so why not try it? I am in the middle of a supernova grow, and so far it is exhibiting normal growth, although I haven't begun flowering yet. LEDs are so new and expensive that there is not a wealth of information on them, and their certainly aren't a whole lot of trusted and tried products out there. If you want to grow with LEDs right now, you gotta shell out the dough. If you do that then you will reap the rewards of a simple, no heat grow room. For years the options were limited to floro, halide, and sodium. Its really cool to see another viable option.

I would agree to just build a light fixture... It would be a lot cheaper and you can buy directly from distrubutors in most cases as long as its over a couple hundred. Plus that way you could splash a little bit of other wavelengths onto the light if you wanted- or a couple mild UVb LEDs.

I keep checking out this supernova, and I'm digging it more and more.I bought the satellite system for the ufo-thats what I hooked my white led fixtures to.HID hut seems to put out some decent gear.270 watts is alot of led for the home-grower- I cant see how this unit wouldnt produce, cant wait to see it put into action!

If you wanted the ability to enhance the spectrum, and had 1400 dollars to spend on a top-of-the-line lighting system, These are BY FAR the most efficient bulbs. I've confirmed that they are the lights that NASA is now using for plant lighting research. RGB Hex
Sure, they're 56 bucks a pop, but if you're gonna spend the money....
If fine tuning isn't neccesary, just get the monochromatic. About the same price, but on the RGB bulbs, you only get 1/3rd the space for each color- If you turned the green lighting down, then you'd only be using about 2/3rds of the available surface area to produce light...
Of course, the Feds and universities are probably the only ones that could afford the LEDs. I found a schematic for the Arrays that the University of Florida uses for growth research and its under $1000 dollars, so why not upgrade it a bit for your price range?
I'll post the schematic in a seperate topic so others can see it.

what's your aversion to buying fans? You could cool a 600watt hps to run at a lower temp than these LEDs with the fans you could afford to get with all the money left over.
For 1500 dollars you could run 12" maxfans for intake and exhaust and still have money left over.
LEDs are interesting but aside from experimentation they don't make much sense to flower with.
