Two courageous patients are speaking out in MPP's new TV ads that began airing last Tuesday, urging the state Senate to enact the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act. Lisa Lange Van Camp and Lucie Macfarlane's ads have generated great news coverage, but we need your help to make sure senators are also hearing that their constituents care about this issue. The Illinois Senate has until April 30 to vote on SB 3181. We need 30 votes to send the bill to the House for consideration, and your help could make the difference.
Here's what you can do to assist:
1. Call your senator today!
We need as many people calling their senators as possible.
If you have already called, then please forward this alert to others you know in Illinois and ask them to call their senator as well.
2. E-mail your legislators today!
E-mailing your lawmakers can be a good way to get your thoughts across accurately and succinctly.
If you have already e-mailed your legislators and received a response, then forward this alert to other Illinoisans so they too can e-mail their legislators.
If you have already e-mailed your lawmakers but they haven't indicated where they stand on the issue, please follow up and be sure to mention that you have e-mailed before and are still waiting on a response.
Please be sure to forward any responses to
nmiller@mpp.org.
3. Write a letter to the editor!
While the news media have given this issue adequate coverage, citizens who support a medical marijuana law in Illinois have been relatively quiet when it comes to voicing their opinion in the public forum. In order to pass this law, we need more people like you to submit letters to local newspapers — immediately.
You can use these instructions and talking points to get started, but please be sure to write as personal a letter as possible in order to maximize the chances of it getting published.

If you would like help drafting your letter, send your name, number where you can be contacted, and no more than a 200-word draft to
nmiller@mpp.org.
