Question Rain Music PC's

I mix and produce music for a lot of local bands in my area. I am currently using the Abletone 7 Suite software on a Dell desktop I purchased from Best Buy a couple of years back.
I had my heart set on a Mac Book set up for music production but then I did some research and found a "Rain" PC sold through a musician mail order place. I have never heard of this company but they are a bit cheaper than the Mac and they claim to have the same performance.

The Ableton software I use is very broad. It consists of numerous libraries and files full of everything from small sound clips to full song demos, so hard drive space is priority. My Dell starts to slow down as you "mesh" the clips together and sometimes it completely locks up. Very frustrating when you work on a song for 2 hrs then you lose it cuz your system brain farts.

Just wondering if you guys thought this one is worth the money, as far as what I would be using it for, or should I just break the bank and get the Mac? I'm still kind of new to the Mac so any help is appreciated.

Hey KY,

You are gonna love the DDR2 ram. It's quick and should take care of system crashes. If you are putting together music files of more than say 2Gig, you might want to consider using Vista as this OS will reconize the extra ram and is more or less designed to be extra stable even when you overclock the cpu. Gamers I have spoken to think Vista is the bomb for gaming, which says a good deal about the stability of the OS. If no files that large then I would stick to XP as it is a proven product and works very well.

Also, the triple core cpu is fast, so lockups due to excess data streaming should be a thing of the past. Looks like a sweet system, dude. I wish I could get me one of those. However, wishing for a thing does not make it so.....

Thanx, yeah if the vista can handle gaming well, I should have no issues. I don't use a lot of large size files, but small ones(say 15+) all streaming at the same time.

If you are going with Vista I would slam that box full of ram if I were you. The ram can store more data and pump it out faster than having to go to the Hard Drive all the time. Will allow your system to run faster, and a faster system will have less issues with data overload.
