The MacPorts Project is an open-source community initiative to design an easy-to-use system for compiling, installing, and upgrading either command-line, X11 or Aqua based open-source software on the Mac OS X operating system.

To that end we provide the command-line driven MacPorts software package under a BSD License, and through it easy access to thousands of ports that greatly simplify the task of compiling and installing open-source software on your Mac.

I dont like macports or fink, half the packages have problems. So I just run FreeBSD or Linux in Virtualization.

I use Parallels on my mac. Although it does have problems with DVD.iso installs, never works. Im guessing it has to do with the size since DVD.isos can be well over 2gb. So I have to use the 1st cd install or a live-cd install. Running Fedora, Kubuntu, Slackware and FreeBSD just fine.
