Rep Power: 214 | | ISP's confirm '2012: The Year The Internet Ends'
This is the latest news for those of you who don't know yet. Quote: Update: Bell Canada and TELUS (formerly owned by Verizon) employees officially confirm that by 2012 ISP's all over the globe will reduce Internet access to a TV-like subscription model, only offering access to a small standard amount of commercial sites and require extra fees for every other site you visit. These 'other' sites would then lose all their exposure and eventually shut down, resulting in what could be seen as the end of the Internet.
Dylan Pattyn *, who is currently writing an article for Time Magazine on the issue, has official confirmation from sources within Bell Canada and is interviewing a marketing representative from TELUS who confirms the story and states that TELUS has already started blocking all websites that aren't in the subscription package for mobile Internet access. They could not confirm whether it would happen in 2012 because both stated it may actually happen sooner (as early as 2010). Interviews with these sources, more confirmation from other sources and more in-depth information on the issue is set to be published in Time Magazine soon.

LOL, Pappy, I'm glad you pointed that out.
This is in no way related to that "end of the world in 2012 because of the Mayan calendar" BS.
This is just the major corporations that run ISP's attempt to do to the internet what was done to TV.

where can i subscribe for GP - they can keep the rest
no, for real now, this would be the final end to free speech my friends! this is something damn serious as the Internet is one of the last space where this super endangered species can barely survive and they want to plow it over to get even more profit out of it!!! it also give them total power on building opinions - as then every media form is fully infiltrated and bought under control by the true terrorists - those that are hidden heads in the central bank system!

I'm sure that "Rebelnet" would spring up if this happened.
There is already Freenet and GNUnet, check 'em out.
Worst case scenario, we all band together and get wireless equipment so we can create a "wireless mesh" network, lol, we just need to be organized.

I have heard of an association on 60 min. (a big program here) that is already fighting for freedom of internet speech. This started when the original computors came out and was run by some HIPPIES! LOL! I will do some research and see what I can find about this.
Here is one link about the underground movements starting. http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread361996/pg1
TONS of info out there. I typed in underground movement internet freedom ISP 2012 and googled it. Got tons. Don't want to add it all as it is easy to find. The one above is a good example. I loved the thoughts on that site, said hackers would not allow it, and even if they did to it the hackers would send the signal along hydro lines to get it out there.

Hey you can live a normal life or live in fear. Your choice. SOOOOO many things to be fearful of, all we can do is the best we can.
And speak up when we are needed.
If you find something, anyone, let us know.

not gonna happen. there are real threats to the internet we know. I don't remember what it's called, but isp's want to put caps on lines, sorta like QoS. big companies who have websites can pay isp's extra money to allow their visitors to have a faster connection to their server. net neutrality! that's what it was called.
check out dark net or dark fiber. here in the states, there is a lot of extra fiber optic cable run all over the place. the big isp's are ready to expand the bandwidth of the internet by double. it was cheaper to install the extra fiber when the original fiber of the internet was installed. it's ready to be turned on when needed and when there's money to pay for it. private companies can sometimes lease this dark fiber too.
