Rep Power: 163 | | Security Question on venting heat exhaust
I need a fast answer please if I'm doing a no no and IR signatures and venting the hot air out?
I'm venting heat exhaust from my 1 600W lamp threw the moisture stack (hot water tank, end to stack elbow up) basement level to the roof 2nd floor and out.
Thank you

honestly IR can pick up ANY heat coming out of your house. No matter how small it is, it can be seen. So the best way to vent is to attach it to natural house vent, like one in the attic or through the same hole as the dryer. that way the heat coming out of your house looks natural.....like any other regular persons house.
i dont quite understand your description of your venting, but it sounds like you vent from the basement up through the roof/attic vent? on the same vent as hot water tank? not sure what you mean, but basically do your best to make the vented air look like its coming from something normal. hot air venting out of a bedroom or regular window is the way you can get caught easy

Yes, that what I'm doing, I have the carbon scrubber air vented out the dryer port and the hot air off my lamp to the stack for humidity for the bathrooms and water heater.
Good I feel better already
I'll tuck the duct work above the ceiling next, in the winter I can use that heat off the tube.
Thanks

As stated...as long as you are exhaustiong into a formal vent...dryer, heater, water heater /etc you should draw no attention. SMELL is a greater issue, IMO.
The answer is being legal. Vent away!
"Yes, occifer, that IS pot you smell. Now move on...nothing for you to see here..." LOL
SERIOUSLY though....I would STRONGLY urge you/anyone else who may tinker with their "home systems" to vent heat///smell///etc to buy a
CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM immediately.
Play it SAFE folks. The deadly stuff has no smell.....

Rep Power: 201 | | I think what WW is saying, is if you are using the vent system for a gas H/W to vent your light, you may have created a leak for carbon monoxide to creep out. By leaving the intake end of the run open, you now have a air leak, whenever the fan is not running. This could allow CM from the heater to migrate laterally and out into your room. I'm with W.W., get a C.M. detector installed. | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to Zigzagman For This Useful Post: | |

Rep Power: 36 | | CM is created in any environment that combustion takes place...
a gas H/W will produce Carbon Monoxide. Winter Tips - Carbon Monoxide

(Gas or propane)
Clothes dryer
Water heater
Stove/Oven
Home heating system
fireplace/woodstove
As johnny said...anything that combusts produces Carbon monoxide.
With larger grows and larger FANS pulliing air out of your grow space you can >>backvent<< your systems even if you aren't tapping into them to vent out heat or smell. If the house is tight and the fan sucks hard the gasses will migrate to the exhaust point. Follow?
if you set a grow up over the Summer with added ventilatrion have a MONITOR in place when you fire your heater/etc up....NOT THE NEXT DAY. (you may not be here)
be aware. stay safe.

ww | OK I got to CM monitors set up, question can you vent the clean air made by a carbon scrubber back into the same room too save on piping it out?
Thanks
