Rep Power: 153 | | Risk in online ordering
How much risk is involved in getting growing supplies sent to your house from an online source? In terms of it being a catalyst to your inevitable arrest. I ordered alot of things online from a few different places, would it be a good idea to start a legal hydro grow in plain view as a sort of front?
Any input is appreciated.

To answer the last part of your question, I wouldnt not do a hydro grow in plain sight, I know your talking tomatoes and stuff, but its a bad idea.
Most people will figure if your doing tomatoes in hydro, you must be doing weed in the basement too.
UPS is a better way to ship, than USPS, as they are a private company, and there only concern is making a buck too. They only comply with the government when ordered to do so.
Almost ALL grow supplies come in plain brown boxes. They usually are not labeled, "1000 watt marijuana grow light".

alright cool, but on my credit card it says "hydroponic growing supplys" and when i say plain view, i mean more like not hidden in an attic, but like out in the kitchen, a little herb garden kind of thing, which i wouldnt mind having anyway.

Unless I really felt like I was "under-the-gun" with LEO, I wouldn't have any concerns about buying anything legal and having it shipped to me. People are involved in commerce every day, and for the Gov't to watch all your packages, and your credit card bills (private until subpoena or request is issued) just doesn't make sense.
I am cautious, not paranoid. Common sense tells me that buying a lamp, ballast, bucket or anything else leagally sold in the US, for use in a legal activity, is none of anyone else's business. Unless they can prove an illegal activity there is no reason for LEO to even give it a nod.
Still, Video has some points, and if you are concerned about it the alternative credit card sounds like an option.

I wouldnt worry unless your gonna buy one of everything. I do 75% of all buying online, especially ebay. I'm not sure as to one item that is perdominantly for growing marijuana. If they gave up there customers because of what they might be doing they wouldnt have any customers.
If I was worried I'd go with videos idea of he prepaid credit card. You could probably even add a business name for shits and giggles like Hobo's nursery. Online ordering is perfectly fine IMO I've been doing it for years..bought cars... motorcycles...you name it I bought it online. Just watch who you do business with..word of mouth is the best.
Dont worry about your credit card bill unless your worried about someone else seeing it in your house, the cedit card companys are in it for the money plus hydroponics store..isnt as bad as "marijuana grow lights" Maybe you bought a submersable pump for your pond from the hydro store.
I think you have nothing to worry about

they can't search your bill without an warrent - if they do so without they can't get one for your place or will fail on technicalities in court.
if you want no paper trail guiding to your place order from a friends pc that is located miles away from our place, use either cash or prepaid debit cards and have them ship it to a friends place. doing it that way should keep you of any radar screen concerning shopping online.

My nearest hydro store is about 1.5 hours away. I buy big ticket items there and pay cash (lights, replacement bulbs, etc.). Supplies such as nutes I order online 'cause my place looks like a tree farm, anyways.

Not so here in the usa, thanks to bush and chinney. It's the PATRIOT ACT.That allows the feds to tap your phone ,electric bills, look at any and all bank statements, all your cash money and cc use.All they say is you were being investigate as part of a terroist cell.Under the patriot they dont need a warrent. see that is what sucks, if it was before the 9/11 i wouldn't be so worried but because of the Patriot Act, that is why i am so worried in buying seeds on the net and it being tracked to me

Tokecrazy is right, under the patriot act they infact can arrest you and hold you under suspicion of selling drugs, even if you were not even involved in such activity.
pre paid card
friends house
comp far away from home......all good advise

thats like the definition of unconstitutional, you have absolutely no privacy.... although they say its random... I'm sure they investigate people with substantially large credit accounts and suspicious last names...as messed up as that sounds i honestly believe thats how its done.

For what its worth Hobo, I am being serious here, I have bought EVERYTHING online! I Had a pallet of reflectors sent to my warehouse! everything I buy is online! You know the size of garden I have! Fear Not the online purchase! To be honest I am more paranoid when I buy Medium Which I buy at a hydro shop 100 miles from me! but I refuse to pay the shipping so I buy it local (Local is 100 miles from me) Online is safe! it is NOT illegal to but grow equipment!

The number one thing you can do is buy from honest people. If someones selling online its not hard to find out info about that persons (or stores) previous sales experiences. Reading is fundamental..the internet can be great if you use it wisely

Hey all, What I'am about to say will shock you but dont for one minute think I'am one of them. Here go's My uncle is a ATF agent. He retires in 3 mons and will be moving out west.If I have done anything wrong he will help them put me under the jail, but if I'am in the right He's backing me up all the way. With all that said,This is from the horses mouth,If you are buying a large amounts of grow lights, nutr, grow medium that is know tobe used for growing MJ.You may be watched. What He told me is that they dont go through ebays lists of buyers, ebay will alert them when someone buys a large orders of lights, nutrs, carbon filters and fans that are grow equipment.Large I mean 50 to 100 lights and so on.That will cause them to start investigating you. They will look and see if you have a outlet business or a wholesale licenses,If not they look closer. If you do have a licenses they look to see if you are sellling this grow equipment at a store or a flea-market.This is not just a one time buy,it's many large orders that puts you on there radar. They start looking at your electric bill to see if it is higher than the other places around you, then they look at you closer. They have to justify that you are doing wrong before they come down on you.So they will watch you and go from there. If you hit the radar you will be looked at hard, bank statments electric bills, income, what you do for aliving and all that before they come down on you.So if you buy a PH meter some nutr or a light they are not looking at you,but if you are buying in large quality you may be at risk. There not looking at one or two lights being brought or 200.00 or 400.00 bucks, they are after the big growers that buys alot and all the time buying large orders. Now that's what My Uncle told me when I asked him. He dosnt lie to me,If you are doing wrong in his eyes you will pay for it,if you are doing right He's your best friend.I dont go around my uncle very much, but when I have I look like a sunday school teacher just coming from church.Well that's what it is.Hope that put some poeple at rest.PEACE

i order stuff online (alot through ebay) because i dont have a local hydro store. some stuff i get at the hardware store, nutes and lights sent through ebay. im not too worried about it, its harder to track on Ebay.......and i dont really have a choice unless i want to drive an hour or two to a local hydro shop and pay out the ***.
