Can anyone help with some On-Line Security info? I'm still not really sure about posting things on this website. Can anyone give me some info on how to keep my personal info private?

Welcome to GreenPassion! Glad to have you in the GP Clan!
As for you info, I looked over your public profile and saw nothing for you to be concerned about. GP has some very secure servers, so keep your personal ID info to yourself and yer good to go!

Hey Intoker,
If want to be able to post pics in your posts, go to PhotoBucket dot com and make a free account.
Mark it as "Private only", and you can host all your grow pics there...safely.
You can also post very large pics using that method.

H_G | The safest place for you to host your pics is right here on the site, in fact, if you post them at photobucket many folks usually don't go looking for them. It takes 3 times as long for it to open up, if it opens at all, when I try to open them.

While this may sound like great advice, I have to speak out against it.
Doing this leaves a larger trail to follow, and you end up hosting your pictures on a server that is not secure nor is it designed to be.
When you post here, using sites such as photobucket to host your pictures, the two sites have to have a "handshake" leaving a larger trail...unsafe practice. The handshake may be tracked.
If you host your pictures here, on our secure server, I can guarantee your safety here....completely. There is no handshake involved than.
Not to add insult to injury but pictures hosted elsewhere, will NOT behave as pictures hosted here will, we have many improvements here on how our pics are handled, but they only work for pictures that we host. You will NOT be able to post larger pictures at all, what will happen is the thumbnail will appear, and when clicked, nothing will happen. It will not enlarge at all.

Click on the "paperclip" thingy and it will give you the loading screen, along with max sizes for images.
.JPG is allowed up to 1.91 Meg. Big enough?.

I am on other MJ sites and I would always choose to post on the site rather then pull in from something like photobucket. I trust that the people running the certain sites are more aware of security measures directly related to the pictures you want to post where as PB just wants people to use their site. they have no direct care for MJ growers like a site like this does.
Posting on the site gets my vote I guess is what I am trying to get out lol

We won't.

Photobucket allows anonymity and they have a huge memory bank. They have free hosting and you can edit pics on their site. You can also load videos and make slideshows. There is never an issue with the way the picture looks and how it links unless the format you are linking the image to has problems in itself. There are guidelines for having an account with them like no filthy garbage being loaded onto their site. They will delete your account if you break their rules. I always use photobucket and if a format does not support it then it is outdated.

Like it was explained at the beginning of this thread, You leave a broader traceable trail by using an off site hosting site. PERIOD.
MJ is illegal. If they want to trace you there are ways with such a public site to do so. Here we have very high end security measures and we do this to protect our members. AND ourselves. Peace | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to jangel For This Useful Post: | |

At the microsoft site in the XP Plus link you can download free an Image Resizer. I had some difficulties at first trying to upload pics to the GP site. Was getting a token error. Jangel pointed me to the instructions and size requirements for uploading. I realized I was trying to send too big a pic for the server to handle. After getting this Image Resizer, I was able to right click on any BMP, JPG, TFF, file and select to resize it. It will leave your original pic file and create you a duplicate file with the same name, but will show the size in its new file name. Never had a problem since. Hope this helps

I also got the software to do this with my camera, and many good camers have it. Look for a Viewer in your software from your camera company, it comes with the drivers and usually a photo program, and other things. With my Fuji I got what they call an exif viewer. I do all my cropping etc in there and also use Adobe photo program to correct colour etc.
