Question infrared arial scanning

has anyone ever heard of this technique for Jerry's to search light/heat signatures for indoor grow's?

this has been my main worry...anyone feel the same? or am i just being overcautious

Cool Eye In The Sky

Yes, I've seen it in action(on tv) That to is my main concern , I've added a/c to my grow room to keep heat signiture lower than attic temp...
I also constucted walls & ceiling using POLY-SHIELD sheathing/underlayment It has mylar on one side of a foam core and costs around $6.00 for a 4x8 sheet.
I'm using 2 banks of CFL's in my grow room(they help lower heat signiture)
If you're using HID I would suggest looking in the DIY section on how to make a cool tube(it's not hard or costly)

If they (1000W's) aren't air-cooled, they should be. The heat signature from those lamps is unmistakable from 5000 ft. with infra red.

FYI to all: Civilian LEO is now using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (aka UAV) with infra-red scanning capability. These things fly so quiet you can't hear them from 1000 ft, let alone 5000, and the also have real-time video relay systems in them. They fly the area in the daytime, then plot the GPS route into the UAV's guidance system...then, it takes off from a small field after dark and can fly miles and miles in a route.

shit! i knew i had to be worried about it..neither are air cooled and during daytime hours it can get very hot up there. the hottest i have seen it get is 90 and that was with the AC running full blast..it is easy to maintain a steady temp at night but i need to do something about my heat index...i dont want to end up like one of these folk on TV and News...any suggestions? i cant air cool reflectors with air from outside im out of windows. can i just run fast air through my reflector and into the room is that still considered to be air cooled?

You may want to consider switching to cfl's, considering the issues you are having....or do you have the option of moving it to a basement?

hello fat man, thanks for your thoughts on this issue.

i would love to switch to cfl's but they simply cant handle the size of my garden...do you have any experience with air cooling a reflector? if so, do you know if it is considered to be " air cooled" if you push and pull (using fans and ducts) fast air through or does the air have to be cold itself?

...doesn't anyone, besides use here, understand that is i madness and war against the own citizen - war against those that should be in power?! they lack air recon in Afghanistan and Iraq and terrorize its own citizens with those so needed devices - this is just pure madness that has to be stopped now!

Vote for either Ron Paul or Gravel, but rather for Ron Paul as he for sure will erase the police state we have to face today.

Ice:

It takes quite a heat bloom to shown up in an attic already hot from a hot summer day. Late in the night (2AM - 4AM) is when they have the best chance to locate those HID blooms...the temp is as low as it will get (ambient) and the infra-red can identify the hotter areas easily then.

T5's and CFL's need not worry.

If you are running 16/8, try light on from 8am - Midnight...much less chance of sticking out then. Also, do you have a exhaust fan in your attic? Easy to add, and gets the heat of the day out faster, especially if the lights are on all day.

totally agree with you green....i can not believe the extent the boys in blue go to to catch some of us harmless growers when those resources could be used to help save lives of our soldiers who shouldn't even be over there in the first place......just my opinion but if i could permanently move to Europe..i would be out today!

not really a true solution since you will produce more heat with those CFLs then with 399W+ HPS bulbs for the simple reason that a bulb in that range yields 150lum/W compared to only 100lum/W with peak CFLs. so from the heat a HPS can be actually be more sufficient then CFLs. and LEDs run still at 80-100 lum/W and cost way more then both CFL and HPS.

Oh, the government won't yield to logic, they only yield to the power that rules this present earth, in this instance I am referring to money. They won't respect us until we begin making donations that contend with the others. Of course, there is no chance of that happening anytime soon. Our only real hope is getting a president in office that isn't a complete moron or puppet. I guess that's a fat chance as well.

Ice, you can do more with cfl's than you're thinking friend, and they are a helluva lot cooler! Course, given the energy crisis and such, you wouldn't be blamed for "going green". That may truly be your best bet. I say that because there is less risk in a "calculated risk", such as switching to a cooler, more energy efficient light source. Hell, it'll even drop the power bill down a bit! LOL

thanks ISO,
i am currently running a 400 cubic feet per minute 6" vortex exhaust hooked up to a 12 lb carbon filter...the exhaust runs constantly and does a damn good job replacing my whole attic every 4-5 min tops..my only issue is during the hot summer days that are around the corner my AC cant really handle the size of the attic so my temps hover around 85-90...im working on air cooling both my reflectors but i have no more access to windows. im not totally sure if it is considered to be air cooled if im just blowing fast air through my reflector and back into my room...will that allow me to lower my light closer to tops of babies? or am i going to still be putting off a lot of heat?

thank you for the info fatman....this is the kinda stuff i love about this site. people helping people and bouncing idea's off each other....truly a kick ass way to learn and help educate. my electric bill is kinda high...not so much that it is going to attract attention but high enough to hurt my wallet! i will be looking into CFL's and their capabilities for the future. for now though until i am successful enough to break even and come through with a legitimate crop i am stuck with what ive got

Well, I hope that everything works for the best for you! We of this culture need to stick together, we are the majority, but we are divided by the laws of nations that disregard our basic human right to nature and what GOD has given us. Which includes "every herb bearing seed"................

If you're using attic space you could consider something a little simple, but labor intensive. people install additional roof venting to their home all the the time as an investment in roof lifespan (the shingles). doing so allows much greater air movement and temperature uniformity which would just look like a hot roof to aerial scanning. you can possibly install gable vents in the upper side wall or easier, cut holes through the decking and install a powered dome vent. Your A/C is pumping air in and around and because of your locale it's just getting turned into more hot air (kind of like how this post is getting), you need to get air out. If you're not renting, talk to a roofer about adding some roof venting, but not a difficult DIY if properly researched. just a thought

Depends on many variables. Most likely no you would not. Just be attentive to aircraft activites at night.I live in proximity of a local airfield were some of the planes I see with cameras on them. I dunno what they do with all that fancy stuff...but, knock on wood, they haven't busted the door down ethier. Long story short...depends on were you live...research local LEO. I have never heard of anyone getting busted by a infared scanning plane. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but almost always one or more of a long list of other reasons. A least not around here in Ohio.
Good Luck!

Peace.

Default No

The heat signature would be low on that size grow.

An oven or washing machine/dryer would have a bigger heat signature than a closet grow. I've never heard of someone being busted for a small grow, because of a heat signature. The number one reason for getting busted, is someone was told about the grow who shouldn't have been told.
