Default Do you have a plan??

What would you do in the event "something happened" and you had to leave your house for a few days?

This past Sunday a very close friend of mine had a B-day party for his daughter. Well my wife and I pack the kids in the car and away we go.

Well the date was close to the 1st so its rent time and we leave the rent in between the door and storm door and my landlord comes and gets it if we're not here. That being said.

We're at the B-day party and things are coming to an end and I get a phone call from my landlord. I'm expecting him to say, I got your rent check, are there any problems I should know about? (he's the best at making sure EVERYTHING works right) which he asks all the time.

Too bad that's not what he has to say, instead he tells me the neighbor just called him to let him know (and me) that my house was on fire. Well i'm about 20 mins from home.

Thats when all HELL breaks loose!! My kids stay out of my grow room and so does the wife unless i'm in there. Well the weather has been nice so I turned the A/C off and opened some windows and used a fan to blow fresh air into the grow room because I covered the windows. Well I DID NOT close the door to my grow room before I left.

Lets just say the drive home was UNBAREABLE, the wife called me every name in the book. We thought for sure the cops would be waiting for me (us). I made a few calls informing certain people off what to expect and what MIGHT happen and promised to explain further.

I call my mother in-law and told her to get to my house ASAP and scope out the situation. ( I was ready to run, but knew i had to take responsibility). Well she gets there and there are theres about 7-8 fire trucks and 2 ambulances, animal control got my dog out of the house, neighbors all over the place. I live in a very nice neighborhood, very upscale so people are wondering whats going on.

I dont know how but they NEVER entered my grow room....HUH!!! HOW???

They walked right by it to the utility room right next to it and started opening all the windows to let the smoke out..EVERY room in my house they took the blinds and curtains down and opened the windows EXCEPT my grow room.

I can not explain as to how or why no one entered my grow room but they didnt and LEO never even showed up.

When I got home I asked if I could go in since the fire was contained to the attic above the garage and thats when I went in and saw that it was untouched and locked the door and went back outside as the 20-30 firemen walk around my house (along with the landlord).

Well needless to say I no longer have a grow room, all plants, clone and seeds (i hope would germinate, but was almost 2 weeks without cracking) were filed in file 13. The wife is again talking to me but I think the thought of jail has led her away from being "ok" with my grow room.

Its amazing how fast things can go astray. I guess the ganja gods were with me that day.

I dont know if you can plan for a fire but I'm seriously going to take that into accont should I start up again. I guess 2 grows was all I was meant to have.

Lesson learned: Always lock your grow room door!!!! and have a plan as to what you would do with your plants should you have to vacate your house for a few days. I would have lost everything anyway as the power was shut off for 3 days until an electrician and the insurance people and fire marshall and contractors and who ever else was here poking the nose around. I went back that night and "cleaned up" the house since i knew there was going to be visitors in the coming days.

My house has smoke detectors through out the house but NONE in the garage and none in the attic (just storage and insulation not useable space). The fire was started from a light that wasn't put back up after the new roof was put on a few weeks ago. I guess it was just sitting on the ceiling and must have caught the insulation on fire and it went from there.

My landlord is a great guy, he compensated us for the time out of the house, he took off work and started making calls and getting the ball rolling to get the power back on and us in the house as fast as possible. I guess it doesnt amount to the loss of my grow but atleast im not in jail.

I hope someone can learn from my mishaps....$hit happens when you least expect it..DONT GET COMPLACENT it only takes 1 oops to lose everything you've worked hard for.

Oh my God! Someone was smiling on you that day, my friend. If you and your family had been asleep in the house, you never know what the outcome could of been. And if it was night time, you neighbors would not have seen the fire start. You are blessed. You really are.

Always count your blessings, not your sorrows. I know it is hard to do at times, but just think how the loss of one of your children would of made you feel.

Please take care and may God keep smiling on you.

Peace

Yes the very thought of being home has had us all thankful, my neighbors saw the smoke and said thats not a cook out and called 911. If it would have been late night/early morning things could have been way worse.

Thank you for your kind words Jangel much appreciated!!!

Wow, you are very lucky. No one got hurt and they never saw/didn't care about your grow. Perhaps leaving your room open was a blessing in disguise if it would have been closed and locked there is a chance they would've broken it down to make sure there was no fire inside. As it was open and they couldn't see any flames perhaps they just passed on by.

peace,
R

Wow never thought about what would have happened if the door was closed. Either way it cant have gotten any closer. I was driving home a min ago and my heart started racing as I started reliving the drive home waiting for the cops to approach me and seeing all the fire trucks. The only logical reason could be is lack of peripheral vision and just walked by it. Or it could be just plain luck.
