(No pun intended between the topic and my name, btw.)
Do any of you moms have children with Down's Syndrome~ particularly adult children? I'm having a concern with my son, turning 36 soon.

My sister has a severe Learning disability... not downs but the doctors always related it to downs cause it was the closest thing to draw from. She is 23 now with the equivalent of about a first grade mentality. If there is anything I can help you with please ask, I know it can be very trying to raise a child with these limitations (my mother is a saint) so don't hesitate to ask.

He's not on any meds of any kind. He's been extremely healthy, luckily!
A little background:
He is a fairly high-functioning Down's adult. He's a fantastic kid, I must say, and I've always felt like the lucky one, to have had him as my own. He was my first-born.
After high school, he moved into an apartment with another DS man. That didn't go really well, but he's been living with an incredibly great family for about 15 years or so now.
Lately, he's been throwing some "tantrums", during which he'll make some accusations that are way out of the blue. He seems to truly believe what he's saying, but he's way off base.
After some research, I'm finding that adults with Down's Syndrome nearly always develop Alzheimer's. Plaque begins forming at about age 30 (they've found it in virtually all Down's autopsies), so I'm wondering if these events might be a sign of that.
So far, there's only been a few episodes, but he did take off one day and was missing overnight (in a large city)~ a horrible night for all of us, but he was found and returned home. I just don't want anything to happen to his host family~ they're the best!
Thanks for the replies, folks... I know it's a long-shot that anyone else here would have experience with this, but I thought I'd bring it up and see. His household doesn't do any herbals, so that hasn't been tried.

I'm just beginning to research it. He rarely sees a doctor, but I've discussed this with the folks he lives with, so they may look into it further with his doctor.
Thanks!

I'm not sure there is any direct correlation between the plaque and alzheimer but I can say that my sister has the same type of tantrums. She gets very angry mostly because I think she knows she can't express herself the way she wants too. She even gets violent sometimes, and she does make some crazy accusations sometimes also. I would tend to believe that a lot of this could be because perhaps they understand much more than we give them credit for. There is the possibility that they are fully aware of they're condition and grow increasingly frustrated at not being able to relate, communicate, or connect like the rest of us. That is my view anyhow. I know that there are medications to slow the progression of alzheimers and dimensia (sp?) and could be well worth a trip to the doctor to have it checked out.
You have to remember though that they call it "practicing" medicine for a reason. Nothing is for sure and no two people will react the same way to treatment, but I believe its worth a shot for his comfort and well being.
Good luck to you and your son.
