Default MJ Book recommendations

I think book reviews would be a welcome addition at the site

try to make clear what is in the book and who it might appeal to or be helpful for.....that would be more helpful than "its great"

you can review the old classics or something new, as long as you think it would be something others would enjoy

Hi Scott,

Very cool idea!!

As a self-acclaimed "book nut", I can say it's always easiest to read a report if the right info is there.

For example:

************************

FORMAT OF A BOOK REVIEW

ISBN#. Date:
Author of the Book :
Title of the Book :
Name of the Publisher :
Year of Publication :

Summary of the Book: (likes, dislikes, illustrated, pics, etc.)

Questions

Did you like the book? (Yes/No) Why?

EXAMPLE

ISBN# 7566324561234612301 Date: 05/08/2008

Author of the Book : J. K. Rowling
Title of the Book : Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Name of the Publisher : Bloomsbury
Year of Publication : 2006

By having that basic info anyone else shoold be able to find the book in any library or bookstore, or on-line store. Book reports ain't much good if'n ya can't find the book..LOL!

Here is a review of a book that I found to be the best resource yet for Medical info.

Marijuana Medicine - a world tour of the healing and visionary powers of Cannabis

Author of the Book : Ratsch, Christian.
Name of the Publisher : Healing Arts Press - Rochester, Vermont.
Year of Publication : 1998 (Copyright)
ISBN# 0-89281-933-2

This title on Amazon.com

(I borrowed this review from another site...but the writer mirrors my thoughts of the book.)

This fascinating book considers the role of cannabis or hemp as medicine in a multitude of cultures from around the world. The author looks at the historical role and medicinal and cultural uses of hemp in these societies.

The introduction deals with botany, taxonomy, chemistry and pharmacology and also looks at the literature and research, providing an impressive bibliography.

Some of the interesting chapters include information on shamanism in Nepal, hemp in the Chinese herbal arts, Vijaya in Ayurvedic medicine, Bhanga in Indian and Nepalese folk medicine and the use of the plant in Africa and the Americas.

Each chapter includes recipes and remedies that contain hemp from these traditions for various disease conditions. The plant has a long history as herbal medicine with a multitude of applications.

The author discusses the German saint, seeress and musician Hildegard von Bingen and German medieval medicine, and provides one of her hemp containing remedies for stomachache. The role of hemp in Alchemy, Rastafarianism and Homeopathy is also investigated.

A list of diseases which hemp is used to treat is provided, from abdominal pains to wounds, whilst the bibliography includes books, articles, periodicals, multimedia and website addresses.

The text is enhanced by black and white illustrations whilst the beautiful full colour plates include botanical illustrations, photographs, paintings, album covers, T-shirts and buttons. There is also an impressive painting by Alex Grey of the hemp goddess.

The book includes a glossary of terms and concludes with an index. Every chapter has its own bibliography. This is a valuable reference and source book and provides a spellbinding read.

i currently own three MJ cultivation books. I do not have the bibliographical information on hand but here they are anyways...

1. "See More Buds: how to grow 8oz of buds for less than $100". written by See more buds. Good book for the beginner or a person with limited funds. Three strains are grown. Mango from seed, and two blue dot clones. The introduction gives the basics needed to grow; i.e. ph, temp, light, soil mixture. The book contains a day by day picture guide of the grow up until harvest.

2. "Marijuana Cultivation" by Ed Rosenthal. this is an older book, not a current one. I recommend this for outdoor grower and more experienced growers. This book has charts for nutrients, footcandles, and growing by longitude/Lattitude (parallel to the equator). Other infor has nute deficiencies and pest problems.

3. "Easy Marijuana Cultivation" by Ed Rosenthal. This to me is more of an outline of what is needed to grow. It does briefly go over what is needed through the grow, but compared to "See more buds..." it's not as detailed. I gave this to my sister and spent over an hours writing notes to simplify/detail what is needed along with the content in the book.

The next book i plan to purchase is "Organic Marijuana" by Soma. Just hearing so many wonderful things and seeing how colorful his MJ plants are has convinced me to go Organic on my next grow.
