i have been checking out a bunch of different brands and prices for the amount of mega pixels. not quite sure which brand i should go with or if it even matters too much..i was thinking between Canon and Olympus but i can not narrow it down much beyond that. there are just so many features and options to consider! i want the best picture for the best value basically. here are a couple options i have been considering for my price range...... Olympus 8.0 MP digital camera (black) Olympus - 8.0MP Digital Camera - Black - FE-310
Canon Powershot 8.0 MP Digital Camera (black...also a little out of my price range but a possibility) Canon - PowerShot 8.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black - A590IS
let me know what you guys think as far as price and value for just all round good photo's and camera ability.

You want to have more optical zoom if possible than the walmart camera has. Be sure to get one with a MACRO setting too, so you can get those nice close-up bud shots!

I have a Fuji A700, and it seems to do well. Look it up on Amazon or eBay. If I recall it was in that range....could be wrong.

I would stay away from Kodak ones. I have recieved many pics for biz purposes from people with Kodak easyshare cameras, and if you wish to crop and share them you cannot store the pics on anything but easyshare software. Or full size. My computor does not recognize the software unless you download that program. PITA.
I have an older Fuji and really like it. If I got a new one I would go with Fuji again, just to get a macro setting. It has been dependable and easy to handle and never had a problem with it. And beleive me it has been well used! I am talking 100's of pics per week or month. Good software also.

Ice,
If you like the pics my camera takes (see my grow journal or gallery) then you can afford it: Fuji FinePix A700 Digital Camera
Lots of places have them at reasonable prices. It has a Macro setting, too. Only way to get those close-up trich shots, and catch 'em while they are still glowing from the flash!

Sounds a good one ISO. I might even check it out. Mine is fine but I like those macro shots. And I like Fuji, they work great, are reliable and good quality. The numbers are from when they are made from my experiance, and the one Ice is quoting is most likely a newer model of the same camera that you have.

Hey IceIceBaby, I hope this helps. I do alot of shopping here J&R: Electronics, Digital Cameras, Computers, Appliances, Software, Video Games, DVDs, CDs .
they have really good deals, very inexpensive, and they always have a good selection of cameras on sale. Shop around.
Peace

One thing Ice: If they offer you a warrenty plan for a year or two, I would take it. My camera is great but hey, it is electronics and sometimes you can get a lemon. I did take mine back once, after almost a year, and they totally replaced it where I bought it so I got a newer model and a brand new camera. I think my son actually dropped it, but he never fessed up (my bad!!) but hey it is an insurance plan you are buying and is usually pretty cheap, a percentage of the price. Worth it on electronics.
And as far as price here I have not had any time to check. Just tooooooo busy. But will let you know when I find out.

Okay, here the Fuji Finepix S700 is regular $299.99 on sale for $214.99. Ouch.
That is the cheapest I can find it.
One other thing I would recommend is buy either a rechargable battery FOR YOUR CAMERA (specific to each type of camera) or 2, and/or an AC adapter. I have an AC adapter for mine and it has saved me I am sure HUNDREDS of batteries. These babies eat power up, and cheap batteries go REALLY fast. Even with a dock, you still have to recharge it and it always goes when you least want it to. I do a lot of still life. I am usually inside. I use mine with the adapter ALL THE TIME. It costs initially and if you have to, wait, then do that, but I am telling you, you will not regret it.
