Thumbs up Digital Ballast Comparison

Hi y'all
I was considering getting a Lumatek 400 watt MH/HPS Digital ballast until I checked pricing at HidHut and saw their equilvalent brand about $ 70.00 cheaper. Looking at the specs, they look the same. Has anyone purchased from HidHut and is anyone using their ballast? Thanks for your opinions.

Yes, many here have purchased from HIDHUT and if you press the banners on the pages of our site, we get credit for the sale. Also, if you call them to order you will get a better shipping price and just ask for Jason and tell him you are from Green Passion and he will go out of his way to help you. They are a very good company.

Default Lumatek filures

High, 'squared' FWIW, I had 2, 400w Lumetek failures (blue colored one).. they.. who ever I purchased them from,
quickly replaced them with a 'new' (??) one, both times... but cost time and shipping costs..after 2, there's no faith..

Went with the generic HID 600w and it's been going good for 8 months now.
I use the generic 600w bulb and replace every 6 months.. yield is good. No failures..

OH yes.. if ya can fit a 600w in there, don't waste your time on a 400w.. I think, with only a 2 degree increase with the 600 from the 400, in the box ..
I now have 2, 400 w lumateks.. and use the 600w.. and a 400w magnetic (bullet proof) in the veg cab.

Sorry to hear of your troubles w/ the lumateks. I have a 400 lumatek myself, sounds like the same one as you. But mine has been going like a champ now for the better part of 2 years without so much as a hiccup.

I do agree that magnetics are more reliable and at least you can fix/rebuild them if they fail and i use them aswell but i still like my little lumatek.

A side note on digital ballasts, our experience;

We used 3 name brands, 120v 400w and 600w's.
(North America)

All would get extremly hot within an hour or so.
(hotter than the old magnetic ones).
In fact, the 'purple' one got so hot it melted
the gromet at the supply end.

Turns out that if the voltage at the 'wall' is prone
to drop below 107-110v, the ballast will attempt
to draw the proper voltage to fire the lamp.

Took months to figure it out. A simple multimeter
tester confirmed the low voltage.
Same equipment, different line with a constant
112v and all is good.

That over the counter no question return policy
sure got tested :>
