Now Playing ~ Fussing over nothing~
Now Playing is a movie application for the iPhone. When you
click on the Now Playing icon on my phone, it will first
determine where you are then list the closest theater first and
each one thereafter in increasing distances from you.
It also tells you what movies are playing and what time each
movie starts at each theater. It even lets you add movies to
Netflix.
It's an awesome application. The iPhone has several movie
applications, and I've tried them all and this one is the best.
One of its amazing features is the price.
The cost is zero!
All iPhone apps are rated by users and Now Playing has several
thousand ratings. Out of a possible five stars, it's rated at 4
point something stars.
One of the main reasons why it doesn't have a higher rating is
the icon. Let me explain.
Recently the writer of the program decided to improve the look
of the icon. The icon is the little picture that you click on to
start the program. It works the same on a phone as an icon does
on your computer. So he designed two additional icons. He then
notified the users of Now Playing that they could vote on the
new icon, and if they liked it better he would switch it to the
one that most preferred.
So the users voted.
One of the new icons received 76% of the votes and the other
two received about 12% each. So naturally the writer changed
the icon to the one that was overwhelmingly preferred.
That should have been the end of the story but of course it's
not. A small group of users began giving the program a one star
rating. They admitted in their reviews that they loved the
program but that they couldn't stand the new icon so they were
giving it a bad rating because the icon they liked wasn't used.
The writer began posting a notice in the program description to
please stop giving the program a bad rating because of the icon.
He explained how it hurt him and the future of the program.
They didn't stop.
The situation with Now Playing illustrated one of the more
negative points of human behavior that you too have no doubt
dealt with.
You just can't please some people no matter what you do!
Give it to them free and make it awesome, but if it has got one
itty-bitty thing that they don't like then the whole thing gets
a bad rating.
You have tried to be extra nice to some people; but you've got
this one itty-bitty thing that they want you to change, and they
are fussing or cursing to high heaven about it.
I've included a picture of the three icons at the link below so
that you can see what the fuss was all about. The icon at the
top was the original icon and the one a small group claimed was
the only one they could tolerate. The one in the middle is the
current icon and the one at the bottom was never used.
They said the new icon was so bad that they just couldn't use
the program and look at that icon.
Remember, most iPhone users are adults. I have found this is very true about life, and also about this site....many complaints we have are just like the above. Fussing over nothing and not listening to anyone else. Now, I am not talking about the majority of you. But this is such a good example of how we react in life. Little things become a mountain, and we lose sight of what life is about. Most of our time is spent over fussing over little things, that in the scheme of things, don't amount to a hill of beans....just think about it...are you fussing over nothing??? peace |
