Default 100grand...pay off bills or start a small business?

if u had 100grand would u pay off house and car or use it for a small business ... Not using a bank just ur cash
Second question is. What business is recession proof and very steady and boring? Racking my brain

First off, pay off all your high interest bills. Visa, etc. This will save you money right off the hop.

Next, pay off vehicle, usually a higher interest item than your home.

Next, make sure you have a low interest line of credit attached to your house and put the balance on your mortgage. Make it for 50 grand or more if you can get it. If you house is paid for, they will be quite willing to give this to you. They want your money so it will still give them an in to making money on you.

This way, you can invest the balance in where you are living and still have money to start a business.

How does that sound? It is using your money to lower your debt load the best you can and still you have money to play with.

Peace

I would payoff what debt I have and then use the remaining as a "cushion" in life to reduce the need for overextending my line of credit. cash only is the goal for me. I wouldn't risk to much right now, personally. Credit is my ball and chain I carry around... The only thing I can think of first that is resession proof is food. I'm selling/trading seeds and starts (the vegatable type) to my neighbors and others. I'm very surprised to the number of gardens going in peoples yards this year. Graden supply stores are selling out quickly this year. Seems to be a shortage of gradening goodies. It is early and If they pass that "carbon tax" ...I think everyone is going to regress, sharply. I can't even wrap the idea of $100,000 in my head. I don't forsee me having that at my current pace. My Dad chased that $1,000,000 dream and left us in the dirt. Married off to another...so we will most likely see nothing from his estate, nor do I really want it. Money seems to be the ultimate drug of our lives. Seems to make people do some really hatefull things. I think I like humble and poor. I feel like I'm chasing my tale I don't have when I chase the dollar. Good luck if you are fortunate enough to have such a desision. Peace.

My interest rate on my car is 18% and my credit card is 14%. I'm calling to have them come get the car. Its not even going to make it to the end of the term of the loan. $100,000 could start a small company, but would have a limited scope. I know construction work that I could bid on but I would need $10 million in liabilty insurance and $250,000 to purchase material, equipment, and labor. Its slim pickings for the little guys out there with one or two helpers. I know some rural "grocery stores" with there jacked up prices do fairly well. I dunno...think I'll be mowing grass this summer.

Back in 2002 we took $29,000 dollars of our RRSP's that were making squat and bought a lakefront lot and started building a cabin & docks and such on our own, while still enjoying cottage life. I don't think we have even $60,000 dollars invested in materials. We just had it appraised at $300,000 at 75% complete. So all in all , that was a pretty good turnover for our initial investment.
Real estate is usually a win win situation.

ok this is a good start
ive been very conservative (had one business failure which is why im ultra anal) and with just my two major (well the car at 6000 isnt too much i guess...its a civic and worth about 10000 ) bills left i would pay off the car for sure (plan on that even though i dont have 100 grand) and that would leave me with about 70 grand in my house and no other outstanding bills
i could pay the house off and have about 25000 left...(ok i dont have any money lol but i may come into a windfall)......so no major bills......bank doesnt own me at all and 25 grand left.........or..........keep the house bill there and have 95 grand to invest in a business

Well, I'm paying off my house in a few months, and I'm the owner of a small business. I'd put the money into some sorta safe-ish investment.

guess if i was building a house i would probably invest in solar panels (and the govt would be kicking in a bunch too i guess) and then just mostly use that power......heat with it too
with what people pay to build some houses 25000$ for the solar panels doesnt seem like that much considering u can get some tax breaks.....and sell the extra back to the power company
