I have nothing against hidhut or any of that, but I feel I need to comment here...
There is
no way that 270 watts of LEDs, in any combination or configuration, could match the power output of even a 600 watt HID (halide or hps), let alone a 1kW. I've been running a 1kW switchable ballast for a year now and I guarantee that my plants would not be near as vibrant with that measly output from the LEDs. I've experimented with LEDs myself as well, and even though they are more efficient as far as only outputting the proper wavelengths, there are still other factors within the light that is given to the plants that greatly affect their growth. An array of LEDs this size just does not have enough power to give the plants what they need. Also, he notes that using more of the blue spectrum during vegging can actually reduce power usage; however, its a well-known fact that blue LEDs use as much as twice the power of the same output rating red (usually measured in mcd or millicandela).
I have a lot of hope for the LED tech when it comes to growing, but honestly, they arent as efficient or cost effective as the tried and true HIDs. The current products that use LEDs for the growth of marijuana have mostly been developed to milk the 'latest and greatest, and therefore most expensive' niche of folks that have the money to blow, IMO.
Kudos to them for trying, but the science geek in me cringes throughout the video.

P.S. The most thorough testing I've seen with LEDs is here:
Growing Marijuana with LED, Growshow Their most recent test batch actually was able to make 1g/watt, but the previous four was nowhere near that.
