I dream of growing and breeding the best marijuana. In this search for mastery, I joined Greenpassion to learn from the most experienced growers.
As with anything, you must separate the wheat from the chaff.
Around the world, millions upon millions of people enjoy Marijuana and a good majority of those millions of people also enjoy growing their own plants. An incredible amount of information exists from these millions of individuals experience. From the early days of acquiring some good buds and planting the seeds, the industry of marijuana has proliferated and the business of procuring seeds from around the world became a huge business in itself.
As this forum is all about video's I thought I would present a series of videos created by Arjan of Greenhouse seed company.
As a caveat, I must admit I detest arrogance and hubris as a personality trait. This guy promotes himself as a means of promoting his seed selections.
My question is this, is he actually as experienced in growing and breeding marijuana as is purported or is he relying on others and simply, the Mick Jagger of Cannabis Seed selling ?
I want the best seed stock to begin with and, if lucky enough would like to breed my plants and try my hand at creating a killer strain.
I've taken a page from this video series in that I believe if you are going to breed marijuana, you must start with pure landrace stock seeds.
This series is called STRAIN HUNTERS and I believe it gives you some very good information regardless if you purchase the already cross-bred seeds offered by Greenhouse or any other Seed Bank.
Knowing where the various indigenous strains come from should give you an idea of what the results might be if a pure Sativa is crossed with a pure Indica.
Today's available marijuana seed stock seems to me, a jumble of multiple crosses.
I suppose if you only care about the end result you may not care what strain or combination you are indulging in.
Well anyways, on with the show, ................

welcome to the team, hehehe thats been my dream sinse i began growing, hence my almost fanatical preocupation with genetics and breeding
This guy promotes himself as a means of promoting his seed selections.
very true
My question is this, is he actually as experienced in growing and breeding marijuana as is purported or is he relying on others and simply, the Mick Jagger of Cannabis Seed selling ?
no hes not. hes not a grower or a breeder, hes a business man. he relies on heavy handed marketing, has been known to try to rig the cannabis cup his way, etc etc. personally i dont think he has any scruples either.
but, he does possess good genetics, though i think this is being slowly watered down over the years. he does rely alot on hype to sell. the GHS companys hayday was when he had the breeders of the great champions on his team, like shantibaba who really did all the hard work and knew their stuff. i think when they left they did take their genetics with them. so i sometimes wonder about the genetics he sells. and now with the coloured seeds... hmmm
I want the best seed stock to begin with and, if lucky enough would like to breed my plants and try my hand at creating a killer strain.
try begining with new genetics, unlabelled. local strains adapted to your climate. strains from travels, landraces that arent comercial. the advantages are great, on one hand you KNOW for a fact that what you have is new, and secondly you are introducing int the current 'comercial market' new genetics, new blends, new flavours.I say if you want to do it, start from scratch.
Knowing where the various indigenous strains come from should give you an idea of what the results might be if a pure Sativa is crossed with a pure Indica.

thats why ... if you can travel to collect new genes do it, if you cant try other ways. for example i have been trying for some time to contact someone in the armed forces stationed in afghanistan to send me local strains, i havent been successful so i reckon the only real way is for me to actually go there. i will one day. but for you guys i'm sure everyone knows at least one stoner serving in that country... try them they can send new genetics for sure. one or two seeds rolled up in a souvenir scarf or turban,, things like that. people you may know travelling to S america for example or SE asia cand send a postcard with a seed or two... you have to be very veratile while canvassing the world for new untested genetics and flavours... at least thats how i go about it.
Is this person still in the growing scene and would people fair better by procuring their seeds from him?
yes he does, as to better. well... only one way to know really
both howard marks and shantibaba are still in the business. these guys are legendary breeders. when i say legendary i take off my hat...
anyone reckon thats BS from my part, i dont give a flying f.. even if i dont ever buy seeds. i look up to these two as an example of dedication to good genetics
