Rep Power: 215 | | Man, is there any good news... I rarely if ever watch the news. I don't remember when I stopped watching, I'm sure it gradually happened but I don't even think of the news anymore. Oh there are those couple a times out of the year I might think of giving it a try and if I do, Well we all know all the bad news that is out there around the world, That's all they show us. Have all the good stories about good people or happenings, have they all disappeared . At four this morning I thought I might check the tv news out... It was the same old same old. All of this bad stuff just tightens my stomach up. So of course the tv goes off and I go into my own little world... Out of Sight, Out of Mind.... you know what I'm saying? Each time I go to watch the news and my stomach gets all tight and tense, I am reminded of this family that once lived a bit back in the woods. It's the way they liked it to be!!! Mom cooked the kids breakfast , everyone had work and school to be done and all was peaceful and quiet were they could not be found. They might have a friend or two come visit a while, they would sit by the fire, shooting the **** about whats happened in town, and usually gabbing on how this years crop turned out to be , while the radio blares Paul Harvey each day at noon time,,,, That's maybe the most news they had on any given day. Yes there was little bits and pieces of bad news in town, in their surrounding area. But because they lived peacefully in the middle of the woods, not far from the corner store, they took care of things on their own home land, they were not bombarded with what war the world or the Country was fighting each and every day. I guess that is what I still do, Out of Sight Out of Mind. If they can't put the good in between the bad then I think I'll have to continue to keep the tv off. The world is made up of all different kinds of personalities, mine is laid back and can not handle the news that has not much good to say. Do you watch the news, are you glued to it or is it just once in a while, do you not watch the news for your own wellbeing......

We've been fed the "news" by the corporate puppet-masters for so long now, that it is mostly a distraction for what is really going on.
I don't watch much anymore. Just the local broadcasts. And, the local newspaper. The small newspapers are great. I don't care much about the "news" in the paper, but, for a former English Major, the way small newspapers butcher the language is WAY much fun.

We have an early morning news show that concentrates on good news. I like that. And it gives a different impression of the world. yes, there is bad news, and sometimes we need to know to keep our family safe and change things in our own daily world.
In the position I am in, with the site, I feel world news is important for me to at least have some inkling on. It affects much to do with our members and different countries they are in, and I have friends all over the world, so I like to keep on top of things. I find though I simply tune out with the gossip world shaking news when I here Bradgelina have a new kid or obama has a new dog...what do I care and how does this affect me? But when there is a tsunami in India that is also hitting Japan and could hit my sis in law in Vancouver I want to know this. I want to know if my friends in Australia are having fires that are burning rampant and could endanger them. I want to know when toke or brussels or pineboy have a major storm and their contact with the world or their homes are wiped out. I feel this is important to me.

I agree you need a filter on the TV something that can take the spin out of the news at least. There is more advertising in the news then the news and I'm not talking about the commercials either.
Each broadcaster has an agenda to it's owners, advertisers or political group. I prefer written news feeds compared to the TV broadcasts.
They got to keep the fear going. Keep us all cowering.

Every time I flip on the News/BS it always the same ish...A couple officer involved shootings, Children being kidnapped and gang bangers giving each other dirt naps...I try not to watch but its everywhere...I personally flip thru the paper as I have my morning joe...atleast that way I can kinda filter it myself...plus most of the time I'm reading sports anyhow...
I too belive its to distract us and get us looking in other directions...while the sneek ish past us.

the truth is that TV is nothing more than a vehicle to sell product, that's what
it has always been and that's what it will always be.
the only way to change it is if we band together to target boycott's at the
worst of the prostitutes on TV, ...you know, like we did to Kellogg's.
unfortunately, bad news sells better than good news and as we no longer
have any actual 'hard' news outlet's, just info-tainment shows, we have
to be smarter, more involved consumers or we will just become victims.
kinda like if you're in a fight, it's the shot you don't see comin' that knock's
you out.
anyway, myself i watch Fox News, MSNBC and BBC news so i get some
differing opinions, then i use my own mind to decide which is more right
and which is more full of crap!
you just can't afford to bury your head in the sand or you deserve what you get!
...no-one will watch your back with as much vigor as you do!

There's money to be made if one of the networks had any intelligences to do a half hour news show of nothing but good news reports.

I can't get it out of my head now lol I suppose I'm dating myself there with the eighties I hate the news too. if you're not lookin' when you cross the street you deserve to get run over.
the government will never care as much about your life as you do, it will
always care more about costs so we MUST pay attention.
Rule # 1: PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!

in part its our fault cause we all secretly or openly enjoy reading and hearing of other peoples misfortunes... maybe cause it means that for the time being we are in the clear... until the day that we too make the news...
ah well. human nature at its finest.

Look at it from the other side of the coin, though...
Suppose we lived in a violent, dirty, cruel world and none of that was on the news. Then, we would all be screaming "CENSORSHIP!" and "LIARS!" and we'd all be complaining how the news is all a cover-up of what's really going on.
This thread only proves that you can never make people happy - no matter what. (Not like that needed any more proving. I'm just putting it out there.)

Rep Power: 215 | | The world is made up of different kinds of people. Some like it hot some like it cold. Some are meant to know all that is going on in the world and some are meant to take care of their home area. If something was to happen, who would know better how to survive in lets say the north east. If needed it will be the one who has spent their life already surviving in that area of the world. So yes I believe those of us who can't stomach most of what is on the news, we still have a part in all of this, just as you who keep up with the news of the world do. It all and we all will be in our right places at the right time. I do read some of the news each morning, I don't watch it on tv. I know what I need to know right now. If my situation or responsibilities change then I will need to change.

Me and my wife have turned off all cable and havent got the digital box to watch t.v. with.So we have been watching movies for a few months.I read forums for my news.If its happening in the world...you guys know about it.With a mix of about 6 forums from various locals on the planet.I get SOME info.I really got tired of watching mainstream media and feeling lied to all the time.
All forums are current events by the views of real people. And I get to pick the topic of my input.Thats a lil ignorant of me but I feel better than I do when I watch the networks b.s.
