Default Truly Bizarre method of flowering---

This is by FAR the strangest thing I've ever heard.
My friend grows outside, and seems to get good yields. He planted a seed 2 months ago and is about 3 weeks from harvest. It's the most beautiful bud I've ever seen. It's about a 2 ft super skunk, and half the plant's height is bud. He planted carrots around it to absorb salts from the soil... The strange thing, is it's ready to harvest, in april. It was outdoors and he never covered it or anything.
He says he made it bloom by injecting human testosterone into the base of the stalk.
Anyone know anything about this? Seems absolutely ridiculous...

That is an idiotic notion.
If anything I assume it is the Puncture in the stalk that is effecting it.
As far as I know, mammalian hormones are not compatible with plants.
On a good note, that is one less injection your friend is getting.

I also heard that if I inject my Dachshund with Gibberellic acid before I go to bed, he will be a Doberman in the morning.

I agree moonbiscuit, while the carrots may effect the soil conditions I'm afraid the trade-off of available space for the roots of the marijuana plant would be compromised.

Bigger, Healthier Roots = Healthier Plant = Bigger Buds

Better plant would be asparagus [... you are supposed to add salt when planting!]
Others would be saltbush/atriplex, myoporums, and melaleucas.
Naturally, this would apply for outdoor growing and only useful if the level of salt in the soil is overburdening.
For soil salt problems indoors, a proper flushing of the soil should provide a remedy but, if not, there is a product called: ProTerra Plant & Soil Rescue

I think chances are it would kill it more than anything else....poor puppy!

And I do not think it will work either. why would male hormone work on a female plant, never mind the fact it is a human hormone, most likly. Maybe he gave it steriods too! Hey it takes all sorts to make a world!

I have even heard of people using menstral blood for fertilizor on their pt plants. hey, maybe if nothing else it will get more attention for it, but I don't know that it will work. Maybe the blood works because it is blood and so is bloodmeal, but male hormone? I doubt it.

i did...uh, SOMETHING similar [a different chem] that seemed to stimulate growth in substantial ways and i'll report on it when the plant is harvested and dried.

here's what the net had to say about similarities between plant and animal hormones [link disabled]:

it could have been a psychic thing, if we expect our plants to do well, they will! they respond to EMF fields put out by animals and humans, so force-of-will could have made it a 'studlier' lady plant!

I injected test prop into a indoor bamboo plant to see the effect on the plant. The plant got brown and died all the way up the injection side. The plant lived but never recovered.

High all... chaos420

I like this kind of thread... make one think.

But no one has asked chaos420 (420 hasn't been back to his thread either) about some pictures...
Something that your friend has done that is so unusual would no doubt require pictures...

You can't just drop a line like 'human testoerone' and then 'poof' no more input. What happened?

I know that grow would be over now but such advanced technique would be repeated... harvest every other week if one times it correctly...

Do you think that this guy could have run that girl inside and (in an experiment) put her outside, in april, to see how she would finish, in the sun???.. and is yankin your chain?!

That's what good friends to to each other, right!?? LOL!!!!
Just breaking them chaos..... Lemon Stinky & NL99.

Hey I have an update.

My buddy is a bit paranoid- He does use the testosterone technique quite often, but he forbids any pictures of his op. I know he kept it outside, and testosterone triggered blooming, but now I have some scientific evidence to back up the claim!

Here's a link to the article, Mammalian Sex Hormones in Plants

I'll paste some of the most interesting parts here-

QUOTE
PAGE 2, Column Two, Paragraph 5
(In Sunflowers) Testosterone promoted cotyledone axillary bud formation at the concentrations of 0.1 and 0.25 µg per plant.

QUOTE
Page 4 Column One, Paragraph 1
In experiments conducted in 2000, Bhardwaj and Thukral [6] established that the treatment by steroids (estrone, testosterone and pregnenolone acetate), at the concentrations of 10 -8 M and 10 -6 M, of maize plants enhanced their growth.

QUOTE
Page 5 Column One, Paragraph 1
Moreover, all tested steroids... were able to accelerate the onset of heading (in wheat) in comparison to control by 14 to even 30 days - depending on the hormone applied and its concentration

QUOTE
Last Paragraph of conclusion
The regulatory abilities of mammalian sex hormones in plants can be used in practice... (for) flowering promotion of micropropagated plants.
