There is a technique called "tipping" that I have used with success.
Basically at 21 days into flowering you snip off the very tip of a bud.
The bud than fills out more and increases in weight.

i will be trying it this next go round with one plant; one would think this would have a negative impact on yield, as it would stop apical growth of the top buds.... does it make the popcorn get bigger? i burnt a top once, and it actually did help yield; all the small buds got much bigger than they would have otherwise...
