Heres something i found to simplify the sexing problem alot of newbies have:

When can I tell the sex of my plants?
You can't do this until the plants start to produce flower primordia.
This happens at an early stage, you will need at least a x10 hand lens to see this clearly.
Even pure sativas, start to show their sex, at only a few weeks from sprouting, if you know what to look for.
You need to look 1 or 2 nodes down from the growing tip right in the node where the leaves sprout from the main stem.
The pre-flowers start to form behind the stipe.

Below is a picture, of a single female flower with pistils showing. Sorry we don't have a picture of a female pre flower! It looks like the calyx shown here, without the pistils. You often find them in nodes just below the node where the first fully developed flower with pistils are found. Most people just won't notice them as they are so small and insignificant.
