The winter cold is here and so are the chances of fungal infections. Ok, I would like to get everyone's prevention methods and info on what you do when you see signs of mould eating up the ladies. Include humidity levels, maintained temps, modes of ventilation, dehumidifier capacity and run time, sulfur burners, SM-90, Green Cure, Serenade, other fungicides, hydrogen peroxide, probiotics, baking soda, raised ph water, or any other preventive measures to avoid a mouldy disaster. |

My temps are cool, and no mould. I mean it goes down to 51 f in the dark. I also have low humidity and no mould. 21% humidity in my grow roon. I use SM90, to help with the roots. It is also a surfactant (helps the soil to aborb water which is why I use it.)
Peace

I'm going to get another batch of SM-90 how often should I use it? I had a bad mold infection last crop and I think there are plenty of spores everywhere still, even after a thorough cleaning. I won't risk dropping the temps quite yet till the disease pressure is down after the serenade applications. I will only drop the temps later in flowering so I can get the purple tints out. Probably a bad time to drop the temps considering the extra humidity and stagnation with the bud formation. I run my 50 pint dehumidifier 24/7 and use a baseboard heater on a thermostat for nights if it gets below 75 F. Another thing I do is make sure there is no yellow or dead leaf for mold to jump on and separate plants so the leaves are not touching each other and building moisture. I noticed most other people stuff their plants in a room and they grow into each other. I wish I could get away with that. Ok I will keep on the preventions and pray that this blight might be gone someday. Thanks.

I'm in northern cali and it's been raining here or it's really foggy so the humidity level is always 70% or higher -- what I have noticed is that unless you vent your dehumidifier outside the room (as you would with a portable air conditioner) the heat from the dehumidifier defeats the purpose.

Try the SM90. It does work well. Many members have had good results with mould prevention with this product. Use as the directions say plus you can spray the leaves with it as well. it also helps the plant defend itself from bug infestations.

My climate/grow room environment sounds a lot like jangel's. Low humidity and cool temps (if you want it).
In that type of environment, mold is rare but I have had it happen twice on HUGE buds. This was before I added a decent sized fan in the room and kept the air completely churned up. It doesn't blow on the plants..it is directed at the wall and then bouces into the plants...causing the tops to sway just a bit. Thankfully, this is all I've needed to thwart any threat here.
If you see mold (boytris) you need to dip a pair of scissors in alcohol and then cut away the infected area or it will SPREAD to the rest of the bud. (no guarantee it will stop spreading ith the cut but it definetly won't if you leave it)
good luck all!

I got a gallon of SM 90 for like 65 bucks and I have to say it is well worth it considering how well it works for mold and deterring pests.

I think circulation is a key weapon in the battle with botryitis. Removing the leaves that block circulation is a good idea, particularly during the last four weeks. Make sure there is no standing water, if possible. Varieties that are particularly prone to bud rot require special strategies. Often, you will find that they can thrive in an amazing amount of "wind" during the last three weeks.
Dehumidifiers are very helpful. They should be turned on before the lights go out, to help drop the relative humidity (and raise the temperature) during the critical period when the temperature drops rapidly, after the lights turn off. If necessary, they can be left to run the entire dark cycle, or even 24/7. I don't think the (dry) heat they produce is a problem, but the moisture should be contained, either in the built in bucket, or in a larger bucket with a lid, or directed or pumped to a drain.
If you're using a plant growth regulator (or bud enhancer) such as Phoshoload, Bushmaster, Gravity, some kelp extracts, etc, be careful with the dose. High doses, which lead to increased yield, also greatly increase the risk of bud rot, because the tend to make bigger, denser buds.

Use it every week. That keeps those bugs away and the plants love the foliar feed too. Quote:
