| Ph Up and Down will be needed for any grow. Myself I use baking soda for pH up. Vinegar and lemon juice among other things can be used for lowering pH, but it’s not as effective and lasting as pH Down itself. Epsom salts. GH nutes are supposed to be lacking sufficient magnesium to facilitate peak nutrient uptake, so alot of people will add to the nutrient solution every time while making it, ¼ tsp. Per gallon of water. ********************************* Baking soda does it at the expense of adding a lot of Na into the soil. Be careful with NaHCO3! There is a maxim in chemistry which applies here: water follows sodium. A high sodium concentration in the medium will actually wick water away from the roots. That's why softened water is so bad to use. Lime neutralizes acids; it will always raise pH. Adding too much will send the pH on an ever upward trend. I've experienced pH's of 8.0 in the past. Just a little dab of lime will do ya and I wouldn't add it unless you know the pH is too low. Apple cider vinegar is a good all natural pH down. Believe it or not, tap water is a pretty good pH up. Municipalities often pH the tap water to about 7.5 - 8.0 for palatability. Three basic factors contribute to the cannabis root’s ability to grow in a soil: texture, pH, and nutrient content. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It has been asked before.......wouldnt a ph of 5 be 20 times as acidic than a ph of 7, not 100 times? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No. pH stands for “potential hydrogen.” pH is equal to the negative logarithm of the hydrogen (hydronium) ion concentration. pH = –log[H+] A pH of 7 would mean the amount of hydrogen would be 1 × 10^-7 moles/litre. A pH of 5 would mean the amount of hydrogen would be 1 × 10^-5 moles/litre, which is 100 times more hydrogen than a pH of 7. You can also just do this: Multiple of change is = 10 ^ (7 – 5) = 10 ^ 2 = 100 Taking this further, you can see a pH of 4 would be 1,000 times different than a pH of 7. -************************************

| Hey I just discovered something about PH I got a britta water jug with its carboun filter to remove clorine. The tap water is 7.9 and after running it through the filter it was 4.5 so i use 1/2 tap water and 1/2 filtered water and it comes out 6.7 so there. | ||||||||

| That's too cool, just using water to adjust your ph! How do you like the filter so far? I think we coud stand to learn alot more about filtering our water. I dont filter mine, I have well water, and it is hard, about 200ppm, however I have started throwing a bubbler into my water, and let it bubble for a day or two, before using it.

| what would be nice to know is if organic acid can also keep the pH on the spot for longer periods of time - vinegar for example is simple carboxylic acid that is quiet instable if i recall that right (very interesting article to vinegar Vinegar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and one on acetic acid Acetic acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and if an anorganic acid keeps the pH of your water stable over a long time or if an additional buffer should be used - good question to those that grow for long full hydro system as DWC...
