| well, promises are promises... this will be my last thread. please do not post in this thread until you see the beginnings of a cloning thread. Bonzai is a term to define dwarfed plants. this can be done in many ways, i'll be discussing only one. commonly, bonzai is achieved through root binding; the plant's roots run out of room, and the plant virtually stops growing, and will grow very very slowly. this is not what we want... we want fast growing small plants with many many branches. so, i start clones in 6'' pots; clones are necessary, as you must work the plant from the very first nodes of new growth. a 6'' pot is substantial to hold a mom for a year or two without having to root prune. the results are a 8x8x8-12x12x12 inch bush, with up to fifty branches. this technique is very simple; once your clones are rooted, you will top them down to two nodes. when those grow out, you will prune them to two nodes each. this process is repeated until you HAVE to cut them back every two weeks. you'll end up with many branches, and if the plant is a stretchy one, and attempts to stay apically dominant, you can cut the majority of the top growth off completely, and start over from bottom branches. as you're always diminishing the plant, the root growth slows to a crawl, as super roots are not needed to support the small mass of plant. to be continued.

| ok, i changed my mind; i'm making a root bounded bonzai too. this is a freshly rooted thunder**** clone. we are taking it from a 1x1x1 dirt cubicle to a 3'' round pot. this will be her final home.

| here are the very beginnings of our super-topped bonzai moms. i took them back to the first two nodes, so that two tops will grow. in two weeks, they will be ready for their next prune back.
